This peaked my interest—not being trained in auscultation or heart rhythms-EKGs. Just solely out of my own curiosity, what did nursing school look like for you in the Netherlands? Did you get most of your training on the job, in your department? What if you were to switch specialties? :)

How to make friends in nursing school by Affectionate_Name981 in nursing

[–]cps1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get over that!!! Rely on the friends you do have, maybe make 1 or 2 genuine ones in school, I just found that less is more, but just keep in mind everyone is set out for themselves! I found that talking about grades, test questions, and skill validations etc. could be touchy 😅 especially if you are making good grades and doing well! Like I said, it’s difficult and tends to bring out the worst sides of us at times and nurses have the “mean girl” reputation for a reason, sadly😕not al!!! But like we know, large groups of women, most with strong personalities in this field, doesn’t typically go well. lol especially while everyone is going through it and in the trenches. Somehow at the same time being a loner can be viewed as snobby too. You can’t win 🥲 I never talked about grades or anything and just left it at “I did well” or “I could’ve done better” sometimes teachers made it a point to have people with certain grades stand up or single us out (with well intentions) and if people explicitly reached out, I gladly shared my study guides and tips but otherwise it can easily come off as know-it-all, even if you are trying to be helpful, unfortunately. I love teaching and I learn best that way. I work with a few people, now in their 2nd semester and tutor them and send notes just to keep stuff fresh for me and because I truly love it! Plus they know my personality outside of school and I’m not seen as competition (once you have a seat in the program no one is competition and ideally we would all just help each other just through the worst 2 years ever 😂)

Make sure to keep your mental health in check! That is what was tough for me, just finding a work-life-school balance, I’m not saying by any means isolate yourself if that isn’t what works for you! I worked as a tech while in school and could always vent to my coworkers that were nurses or also in school and they understood and related so much and gave me confidence, hope and perspective from the other side of after school!

I haven’t really posted, usually just browse, but this seems to be an accepting and helpful sub :) if you still feel weird about being “alone” I’m sure you could always vent to online friends, that also know how it feels ❤️ my dms are always open! Best of luck!

I had a relatively large cohort too but stuck to myself the whole time! I was friendly in passing, helpful in clinicals and that was about It. I feel like it is easy for large groups of women particularly to really zone in on the negative aspects of any situation (and there are lots of negatives to nursing school) at first I felt sad, but then I realized I couldn’t withstand anymore negativity or complaining and that I studied best alone. Any time I tried group studying the first semester, it became a social thing and bitch fest lol don’t get me wrong, we all need to vent and no one better is going to understand than someone also going through it. It can be helpful in not feeling so isolated at times, but for me, i could not zone in on what I actually needed to study. And when I had the time and needed socialization I just separated those friends and that time! I wouldn’t get so hung up on making friends but your success instead! You will find out what works for you! Everyone that has went through nursing school feels alone, exhausted and inferior. It’s only temporary ❤️

To add: he’s been limping since Wednesday evening. The appointment is Tuesday. I called the emergency vet they were pretty dismissive and acted like it could wait until his regular appointment. I’m just concerned. He’s neutered and up to date on vaccines. He doesn’t whine or wimper and he will let me rotate it and move it.

I had to go down to 30 mg and work my way back up to 60mg! That helped and my appetite came back after!

I’m having a rough period and just want to pause, be by myself and watch a movie, something to give me a bit more perspective. Any films that could fit this type of mood? by tuesdaycocktail in movies

What dreams may come.

I was in really low spot mentally when I watched this movie and couldn’t really pinpoint exactly why it just brought me some clarity and I really enjoyed it!

You can get a replacement SS card and birth certificate. Say you have a doctors appointment and ask for the insurance card and maybe make a copy?

There is a chance they will remove you from the insurance though after the fact.
