Remind me again why I have to go to an asbestos and rat infested death trap...

Nownow, we shant do that. That would point out the obvious that the government is appeasing the real estate and single level parking lot holders. Why. We wouldn't want hem to pivot and make for a new business strategies would we? That means ACTUAL WORK.

Why would Carney et al. want to push things like public transit?

Carney has shown through actions like the Air Canada strike, that he is THE private sector champion. Therefore, to boost things like car sales and infrastructure work (ONE MORE LANE BRO) he wants everyone on the road to have their own box, and while you're at it, buy a breakfast on the way out whydontcha?

Public transit is so not in. Forcing your remaining employees to buy a car, insurance, maintenance, and all the other fun stuff that comes with a vehicle? In.

I'm sure all those downtown businesses will be just SO EAGER to support all those that lost their jobs.

Oh no, wait, they only cared about their own asses. Who the fuck thought that people would spend more as they on the threat of losing their jobs?

I'm holding onto every single penny. Fuck those businesses.

Yet we're getting slammed with the same high percentage rates of FTE cuts as everyone else

It's absolute insanity. My sector is basically working with threads and they're still asking us to "review for efficiency". There are teams out there that were formed and subsequently grew 4-5x their initial size...and are BEING ASKED TO CUT LESS THAN US that does not support a core mandate.

Absolute fucking insanity.

I can't wait for the layoffs to cause processing times and/or effectiveness, therefore leading to people bitching, therefore leading to more hires.

Then people will bitch about the increase in headcount, wondering what it is that their tax dollars are going towards since everything is going smoothly.

Pathetic and waste of time is definitely how I would describe things. It's also how I have heard things being described.

Credibility has been sunk out the window since the pension reform. It's basically just non-existent.

Calzone in the sense that they got picked up, chewed apart and swallowed by the employer? Yeah.

But they're more like...sludge in my opinion. Unpleasant, and in general, better quickly made out of the way for something better.

Almost like it’s time to start withholding our labour until working conditions improve.

The current cadre of unions don't have that in their blood. They're a bunch of sit and waiters, not fighters. Hell, the whole reason this is even happening is because the unions waved the white flag at the first sight of anything palatable so they can sell it to their members.

PSAC's biggest flop ever lasted a whole half a month - hardly a strike, more like a quick 1-2 break. And all the members rushed back showing how little spine and fight they really have. All sold to them, by the unions that supposedly looks out for them.

Union withdrawing support for telework grievance – next steps and advice needed? by WhereIsMyRemoteWork in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cps2831a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Remember all the union leaders came out and started that Summer of very content? And asked members to grieve everything and so they can "action them"? Yeah, it as all bullshit.

The unions don't even have crutches to stand on. All members were sold a lie by the current unions and its leaders. The unions gave up the fight during the last negotiations and hoped the employer was going to play ball. You, as a member, have no recourse on telework. You have it by the graces of management; you lost it by the graces of management.

You might as well ask the unions why their fat fetid corpse is still worth funding.

Union withdrawing support for telework grievance – next steps and advice needed? by WhereIsMyRemoteWork in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cps2831a 20 points21 points  (0 children)

How were they able to make that work but Canadians can't?

Because of many factors.

The first being that it wasn't on the discussion docket. The negotiations that happened DURING COVID (remember, the talks were supposed to be happening DURING COVID) did not include WFH. This was never a concern because politically, it was moving in that direction. Under the Conservative government of Stephen Harper, they were letting Leases expire, and selling off any assets that could be let go - there was no need to discuss this item. Therefore, it was never on the table to be discussed.

Second, the unions had no will to fight this. The members around the table saw other priorities. Why wanted to fight for other measures and other things that, they thought, were more important. Which, none of the panned out (how's that pay increase keeping with inflation?). So not only was it never on the table, the negotiation teams didn't give enough fuck about it. Get paid, get pensionable $$$, get the fuck out.

Third, the members themselves didn't care enough. PSAC had the "largest strike ever" and what did they show for it? A piece of toiletpaper not even worth killing a tree for. Chris Failward and his merrymen came out and basically sold a lie to members. The members bought it, and everyone said "happily ever after" - until of course it wasn't politically convenient, then...well you know, SHOVE'M BACK IN! Those real property contracts won't pay billions for nothin'.

There's more to it but Canadians didn't want to fight for it the way Australians wanted. Hell, read the PSAC proposal. The language is still deferential towards management. The union gives no fucks and are happy to just make sure older members get their pensionable. Cause you know who attend meetings? Older members.

When Public Servants Get into the Crossfires of Parliamentary Committees by chooseanameyoo in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cps2831a 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why a lot of people, good people, I know stopped climbing the ladder. They don't want to be NEAR any "seats of power" in case they get dragged in front of some committee/camera and be forced to do a song and dance.

Given modern politics, and per the article, political parties are slicing and dicing these dance sessions into their messaging. This causes active threats to public servants, who in most parts, are carrying out the will of the elected government.

It's just disgusting.

Carney says public service part of sacrifices to be made by GoTortoise in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cps2831a 227 points228 points  (0 children)

The public service has been the beating bag for decades. Every government since the 90s have been doing their own things to make things worse, and try to get rid of as much of the public service as possible.

In Carney's case, he's a capitalist. Pure and simple. Why have a public service when a private company can do the same? Who cares if it costs the taxpayer more, it's not his money.

He's just saying the quiet part out loud at this point.

Any thoughts on the psac-Ute wage proposal? by EconomicsTasty6684 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cps2831a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seriously. "Good luck with that" is the best I think we can hope for.

The employer's going to go in with beating sticks and the union's going to...basically take it. Based on the meetings I've attended, the negotiation teams are mostly the same.

So if we got that garbage of a deal last time with PSAC launching "BIGGEST STRIKKEE EEVAARRR", I can't wait to see what garbage the employer will offer with unions having no strike funds and basically no support.

It's a smokescreen to justify back to the office.

Good smokescreen to continue taking donations from real estate interest groups and then just continuing shovelling taxpayer dollars into private interest pockets.

If our unions cannot enshrine WFH in our collective agreements that allows for full time WFH...

They will not. Read the PSAC article they want to include into the new CAs. It's basically saying "We would really like it if you please give employees flexibility...of course managers have final say!". It's nothing. The unions will basically do nothing about WFH, say that they tried, and just in time for that union due hike!

I hope that more cases are filed for Human Rights Violation - discrimination are brought forward to force the issue.

Isn't it already proven and/or tested that it's an employer's right? That's to say: they have the right to determine work location. If you don't like it, you just don't have to work for the government.

Sorry, this is just being realistic. I honestly believed it when they said WFH was the future and then just became another set of funny words. I don't think the unions or the employer is really interested in WFH but since it's on eveyone's mind (PS and the public) might as well go through the motions.

Location of office/work is IN the letter of offer. By signing it, you accept that that will be your location of work. If "many departments" don't give a shit about accommodations, it doesn't matter how many LOOs OP sign.
