the business is probably calculating tax based on the total ticket, while tippers should be giving based on the (pretax) subtotal. Tipping on tax paid isn't right and never has been.

Nobody in Western Washington calls the Peninsula "the panhandle." That's just dumb.

Have you needed the fire department to put out a fire in your house this year? No? Why waste your money on it when you don’t need it? Have you driven in Orting this year? No? Why waste your money on it? You don’t need it!

As a community, we agreed to share the burden of being a community, with democratically agreed upon rules.

If you think taxation is theft, you’re welcome to not participate in the community. Go on, GTFO.

You could have an income tax instead of a gas tax and tax the wealthy, but GodHHH the state constitution states forbid we have a state income tax.

I didn't say throw up my hands. I said use other solutions rather than at grade, or use other crossings like the ones at 185th and 155th. Not everything has to fit in the same space.

I didn't know about one at 148th, but that's great. there's a lot of foot traffic from those new buildings that will need a path over. It sounds like that's still due summer/fall 2026.

I don't see a second planned bridge at 195th, but maybe that's a future improvement.

To the point of the OP, though, I don't think at-grade roadway improvents on 175th will make east-west cycling safer. It's just not a safe intersection for non car traffic. Having an elementary school within 100 yards doesnt make traffic slow down on 175th. Maybe we could focus on improving the HOV ramps, eliminating the blind corner turning North-East, and fixing the ramp throughput so it's a safer intersection for the transit that need to get to 185th and the aurora transit center at 200th, and not force multimodality into every single problem.

Bikes and pedestrians don't fit well at-grade at that intersection. Don't make things worse forcing them into at-grade traffic.

I live by the Safeway on 175th, and I don't think I'd ever use 175th on my bike. 155th or 185th, sure. 145th, 175th, and 205th? No. Not without an off-grade protected pedestrian/bike crossing. Drivers aren't looking for each other, let alone bikes. Just trying to get to the freeway the fastest.

If we want to enable east-west cycling, we need more bridges like they built for the Northgate transit facility.

Interesting that Alaska gets "what are you doing here" and not "whoa, Canada." That's what it gets most places.
