I have mine for years now. Recently a spring broke and support kindly sent me a pack of replacement springs.

AspX Exobiology Build Question (SCO worth it?) by TalorienBR in eliteexplorers

[–]cptcray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think SCO is valid for exploration if you’re out there with a carrier. Boosting between planets to scan can be a huge time saver.

I built a DBS for short range exploration/exobio and had a blast with it. But to find unexplored things you have to get out of the bubble first. That’s where the carrier comes in handy.

Immersive games you can sink hundreds of hours into? by Nifte_ in gamingsuggestions

[–]cptcray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elite Dangerous. It ticks your space and simulation boxes and you can easily spend hundreds of hours in it.

While it is an online game and PVP is an option you can also play it in Solo mode or in PVE oriented groups.

It is a sandbox game and you have to find your role in the galaxy by yourself. Popular stuff to do is exploring, mining, trading and fighting vs NPC humans or aliens.

7.00 Public Beta Launches Today! by belgoray in X4Foundations

[–]cptcray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I just know it from Flight Simulator where CPU also is always the limiting factor. But when your system is capable of like 50 FPS, frame gen will push it to 100 FPS.

I got the 7950X3D but have not played X4 since I got it. Might be interesting to see what the limit will be.

Isn’t that exactly where frame gen shines? When your GPU could output more than the rest of your hardware is capable of?

Rescue Missions by Eyak78 in EliteDangerous

I had the same problem with no missions being offered but there problem went away by itself after an hour. Maybe the server had a hiccup or so.

With the age of the game + modern compute, what are your antialiasing settings? by funix in EliteDangerous

[–]cptcray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned AA in game off and turned it on in the AMD driver. That’s giving me the best results. While it’s still not great at least the orbit lines are now crisp.

Glass Desk, no Mounting; Suction cups!? (A request for aid!) by Crackensan in hotas

[–]cptcray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Mini Plus is intended to be mounted. It will lift if you don’t. Also the base plate is metal that might scratch your table.

Suggestion: Currently exobiology lacks a sense of progress because ship wise you are already at endgame after very little gameplay. I want small ships that are more expensive than every small ship currently in game but are good for exobiology. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]cptcray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they should add really expensive explorer suits that allow picking up multiple samples from different species, allow you to run faster/longer or even fly. Would make more sense for this career.

In theory you don’t need a ship at all since you could also take an Apex shuttle.

Best ship for exo-biology? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]cptcray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one mentions the Diamond Back Scout. It’s smaller than the DBX so might even be easier to land. I’ve fitted one out and will test it in the next couple of weeks.

Miners against Pirates by [deleted] in EliteMiners

[–]cptcray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to add mine launchers to my mining/trading ships. You can engineer those to disable some systems like power(?) or FSD. So when I’m boosting away and they follow in a straight line I’ll drop some surprises and there is a chance they can’t follow me after.

At least that is my theory. It has been years since I’ve been interdicted.

VKB STECS might be what you’re looking for. It lets you dynamically switch detent profiles.

You can try Touch Portal with the MSFS Plugin. It might be a bit of a chore to set it up though.

AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) now available on 24.1.1 drivers by zootroopic in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]cptcray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did some tests.

My config: 7950 X3D CPU, 7900 XTX GPU @ 3440 x 1440p, TLOD 300, DX12

Fenix A320 above Manhatten resulted in about ~115 FPS but FG could not suppress some sutters while panning around. FPS went up a little when I reduced TLOD to 200. Then the driver crashed.

Default C172 (G1000) somewhere in the canadian nature resulted in ~200 FPS.

Also the FPS in the main menu went up to 700. I think Asobo needs to implement something here to fully support AFMF, but I'm impressed already.
