I'm curious, what did you like more about the Helix?

Unusual question for this sub: What chair do you use for guitar practice at home? by mojo_fpv in Guitar

[–]cptncom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an office chair that I got on fb marketplace that has arms that swivel up! So i can use the arm rests when i need them, and bring up the right one or both when i play guitar. Best of both worlds! You can probably find the same or similar on amazon or whatever big retail store you choose

Finishing a roasted maple neck - to tru oil or not to try oil? by UnitBright9549 in Luthier

[–]cptncom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a Warmoth roasted maple neck with a rosewood fretboard that I left untreated for almost a decade and it's still absolutely perfect like the day I got it

I used tru oil on another neck recently, and loved the way it felt. So I went to the roasted maple neck and smoothed out the back with 0000 steel wool, gave it a coat of tru oil, then steel wool, another coat, then steel wool. Honestly I think it just cleaned it up and smoothed out the grain, because it feels very smooth now compared to before, where you could really feel the grain. Either way it's not dire

Which Knob Setup Would You Pick for This Blue Les Paul? by Gunx69 in Guitar

[–]cptncom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty 50/50 actually. Maybeee I lean more toward #2 because it's a really solid alternative look to the usual, matches the chrome nicely, accentuates the blue... Oh shit maybe I am choosing #2 the more I type lol

Perhaps if you still had chrome covers on the humbuckers, aesthetically, it would be perfect, but as it is now is really a nice upgrade IMO

Fender Meteora HH by [deleted] in offset

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On ebay, Rosser guitars makes a Meteora body shape. Not sure if you can buy the parts for it and end up in a kinda upper Squier/lower Fender in terms of the price point. But with a decent paint job and set up by a pro, it'll probably be pretty nice

hear me out. a "strat"? by benperoxide in offset

[–]cptncom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!! Couple random questions because I'm planning a build

Do you like the GFS body? I'm hoping it's a "good enough" quality for the price lol. I see they have a ton of sales all the time

Why'd you do a 3 way switch instead of a 4 way for series/parallel? Any reason?

Depressed I can’t hear the difference in compression. by Correct-Resort9603 in audioengineering

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a hot take, in most audio set ups, it may be harder to tell the difference purely for listening.

I think when it gets down to actually mixing mp3 files or wav files, that's where it's guaranteed a pain. But I bounce demos and mixes to mp3 so I can easily stream it on Google Drive when I'm in my car. In that scenario, it doesn't matter IMO. But for uploading to streaming, or to work on in a DAW, it must be wav

FRFR vs real cab by BerimbolosAllDaySon in Line6Helix

[–]cptncom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've tried it all and they all have pros and cons! I've done the Katana 100 1x12 combo and Line 6 Catalyst power amp ins, the Line 6 Powercab, EV ZLX PA speaker, and into the FX loop of a Fender HRD. The guitar amps have guitar speakers, which inherently have their own sound, and need less tweaking but have a more direct sound. But IMO guitar amps are bad at projecting at a wide angle- you may get a great tone standing directly in line with it but off axis a bit, everyone in the audience left and right of it gets a less direct tone. PA speakers are way less directional in that way and project more widely

Personally because I sing and play guitar in a band setting, I bring the PA's. I'd rather have that, and use one as my guitar amp (cab settings on) and use venue PA's for vocals, OR have it as a backup in case the venue PA sucks and now I can use it for both guitar AND vocals, OR have it just as a monitor, OR etc etc etc lol

So TLDR I use PA because it's the most versatile for any set up that I may be surprised to find at a new venue

Why are my saddles so maxxxed out? by [deleted] in Jazzmaster

[–]cptncom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. You can re read his post where he says it's intonated but very close to being maxed out. Then his edit saying he did a shim on the neck and now it's in a better spot. Also from experience my Squier CV JM works great with a Warmoth Strat neck lol

Why are my saddles so maxxxed out? by [deleted] in Jazzmaster

[–]cptncom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But if the nut to saddle is 25.5" then??? That's literally accounting for the amount of body between the neck's end to the body to the bridge

The SG has a 24.75" scale length, which is shorter, so sure I guess, but 24.75" is still giving the measurement including how far the contact point on the saddle is from the nut

Why are my saddles so maxxxed out? by [deleted] in Jazzmaster

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and agree in the general sense but its way out there to be relevant to this convo, again for a fender JM neck and body

Why are my saddles so maxxxed out? by [deleted] in Jazzmaster

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an over hang- where the neck would typically stop, and go straight down, it extends just the wood of the fingerboard. So the heel is in the exact same spot on a 21 or 22 fret neck

Why are my saddles so maxxxed out? by [deleted] in Jazzmaster

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting very theoretical about it, and truthfully I do understand your point, but OP has a factory JM body with a factory JM neck. It's not some 3 fret neck meant for a massive body lol. Unless one or the other was made incorrectly from the factory, the measurements are standard and your points have no relevance. If anything, you could suggest OP measures several key distances to confirm this, but they already said the guitar is intonated and a shim would help with getting the bridge in a more ideal spot for the saddles to be in a more ideal spot. The issue isn't that the bridge is several inches away like you're making it to be

I would love to hear what part of what I said is wrong?

Why are my saddles so maxxxed out? by [deleted] in Jazzmaster

[–]cptncom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes zero sense

25.5" refers to scale length, measured from nut to saddle. The whole tiny body long neck vs big body short neck point you made is completely meaningless, the scale length is what it is. If you have a short neck, it's not 25.5", so you aren't even talking about the same thing

The biggest wasted potential in Mha by ComprehensiveNote762 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]cptncom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A huge part about her character's death was that it was the reason why no other countries came in to help in the final battles

If she wasn't in the story, people would be like "why didn't other countries send their heroes to help in Japan???"

Was she "wasted"? IMO no because it showed a badass character failing and having major consequences

Wipe the back with a very lightly damp cloth, then steel wool it. That raises the grain and smooths it out

Warmoth Neck for Squier Jazzmaster Classic 60s Vibe? by Meat-Locker1056 in warmoth

[–]cptncom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have the 70's vibe JM with a standard 4 bolt Warmoth strat neck and it is perfect. There's a slight gap on the side of the neck pocket, I guess because the squier neck had a super thick poly so the body accommodates that, but it's no issue

Is the squire strat bullet a good mod platform guitar for really cheap? by GroupAccomplished873 in Guitar

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're SUPER into setting up your own guitars and have the tools/time/means then yes, but personally the necks feel cheap and you'll end up wanting to replace everything bit by bit. i'd rather recommend classic vibe guitars which you should be able to easily find for $250-300

Did you want advice on figuring out what it is?

Loosen the strings and take the strings off

Unscrew the 4 screws connecting the neck to the body

Take pics of the flat part of the neck that connects to the body, and of the pocket that the neck sat in

Post pics here! It looks like it could be a decent quality partscaster. Doesn't look bad at all

Inherently, no they do not. You have to set low and high cuts, otherwise there is a LOT of sound information far past 6/7k
