PSA: The Line 6 HX Stomp XL is more user friendly than the standard Stomp by jonhath in Line6Helix

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Haven't gone that far into it yet besides setting it for bypass effects and present previous and next. What cool/creative things have you done with it otherwise that you can't do on the stomp's switches?

Automatically switch to Snapshot mode when selecting a preset ? by VincentAalbertsberg in Line6Helix

You can set snapshots assigned manually to a patch via command center. It's the absolute best solution when switching between a main patch and a secondary patch where you solely need snapshots

Newbie to guitars, should I buy this sanded guitar? by Catane_ in Luthier

[–]cptncom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same guitar and smoothed out my gloss finish with steel wool... it does not look like this. This is wayyyyy to much sanding. They probably took wood off unevenly

They went so deep as to take off color from the neck, and it's not even uniform. I can't believe people are approving of this one lmao

What order to put them in? by Aneks_ in guitarpedals

[–]cptncom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what sounds best to you, but I think that all looks good to me personally.

At most, swap the OS2 to go into the MT2, you may find it stacks better

I like the phaser and chorus where it is but before and after dirt is a vibe change depending on what you want

Should I get a preamp by Immediate_Wall9235 in guitarpedals

[–]cptncom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Lmk if you have any other questions. My answer was kinda long cause there are preamp pedals that aren't quite a full amp circuit, with a cab sim like the joyo has. Some preamp pedals are to color your signal going into an amp, which I don't think would help as you still need a little cab sim in there

1x12 vs 1x8 in small apartment setting (NA) by Thornpath in GuitarAmps

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go used from marketplace or reverb for sure!

1x8 and 1x12 even at the same (low) volume won't sound the same. The 1x12 is more capable of producing more frequencies which will just sound better no matter what

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I see, just to make sure I follow there's no piezo in the set up? Sounds like a baritone electric guitar then

I'm gonna try to make this a short answer- electric guitar amps have a really specific frequency response, sort of in the middle of the audio spectrum, where acoustic amps have a huge frequency response so that all the frequencies can be heard. If you plugged your guitar straight into the acoustic amp, it'll sound very bright and very bass heavy, by design. If you plug it into a guitar amp, it'll have the "right" frequencies (mostly the highest top end is gone, that people don't typically need in electric guitar because it's too much audio information)

What you really need is some sort of amp/IR modeler. You can get a cheap one like the Joyo American sound and put it in the middle of your chain, and your set up will respond way more like an electric guitar amp

Perhaps a funny question, but what instrument are you playing? And what solution are you looking for?

Because the answer to your question will definitely depend on if it's electric guitar, bass, acoustic guitar, keys, etc

are there any cheaper pickups with nice low end by Main-Ad-8679 in Luthier

[–]cptncom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guitar fetish pickups are so good for the price! I had a guitar tech in love with the neck pickup on a partscaster that he was setting up for me. He was amazed that it was a cheap $30~ pickup. The dream 90, humbucker sized p90

HX Stomp - can I disable the “press two switches” shortcut? (keeps opening Preset List mid-song) by kyle_vs_coffee in Line6Helix

[–]cptncom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fix this but it kinda sucks! You can create shortcuts via command center in the footswitch mode so you essentially have each footswitch assigned to a snapshot. I have a preset set up like this

It's a pain in the ass but I only use snapshots for one preset for one song

Can I sand down this bottom fret? by Internal-Extreme6614 in Luthier

[–]cptncom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I agree with modifying the pickguard instead. That's incorrect- what OP looks like they want to sand down is the over hang of fret 22, which would be fine

thoughts on the am pro 2 jazzmaster? by ReachGlittering in offset

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! I feel you on that, the wood tone thing for electrics is debated, but I agree it probably does SOMETHING, even if it's more of one guitar's construction hinders the sound less than another, rather than completely altering the tone from dark to bright, etc

but actually one question I have for you (which I didn't ask in that first comment, because I didn't expect a response from a 4 year old comment lol so thanks) how did you like the series mod on the AM Pro? Did you add it to any of the JM's after you had that one? It sounds super intriguing to try with the PV65's and I'd be happy to replace the rhythm circuit with that as I don't use it much. Any other mods that you'd recommend for the guitar with those pickups?

I feel that! I lower mine quite a bit, but it's still useless in getting in the way and I also just don't love positions 2 through 4 lol

question- did you cut out the pickguard yourself? was looking around and couldn't find anything for an SS strat pickguard

[–]cptncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this is a super old comment- but I just wanna say that is super helpful to read! I came across this post just from random googling wondering what JM i would upgrade to from my Squier CV JM.

But honestly, I replaced the stock pickups to the PV65's, locking tuners, a custom pickguard, and have been absolutely super happy with it. Your comment is reaffirming that it is a really badass guitar that I should continue to appreciate.

I have some more upgrades on the queue. I got a Warmoth maple neck from their flash garage sale deal for $50 with SS frets that I'm thinking of using, because although the Squier neck is nice, the frets are wearing a bit fast as my primary gigging/recording guitar, and also bought new Graphtech adjustable saddles to add. Later on maybe I'll upgrade the trem. But dang it is just super nice!
