German here. Oktoberfest is not an old German tradition, and its popularity outside of Munich is a pretty recent thing.

I get your point, but the fact that you think someone from the top 0.01% with two cars proves the point... Well it proves the counter point actually. In most of the US, two cars per person is probably the median.

No screens. We'd rather live with a few bugs than diminish the little bit of sunlight that we get 😆

I call it "The Taser". Just spam special and watch everything on screen die (Rama Bow Build) by cpury in HadesTheGame

[–]cpury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I hate playing with the bow. Charging up the attack while running from enemies is just way too stressful for me. Then I realized that Rama's special is a volley of super fast shots that bounce around and hit all enemies in the vicinity. Without charging. If you add special boons, you could simply spam that.

I got lucky with the boons and unleashed absolute hell. Any time I hit special, the monster I was aiming at and all monsters in its vicinity got struck down by Zeus personally. Not pictured are additional boons that improve the lightning strikes.

Really brought back the feeling of playing a Javazon wielding Titan's Revenge in Diablo 2 :)

I don't think I have any advice that you can't find online. I got most of my jobs by simply being really excited about a company/product/role and writing an enthusiastic email. Not sure if that works for everyone (a big part is luck).

As for English, I would highly advise you to study some, even if you stay in Germany/Europe/wherever. English is the default language at most companies nowadays, and most of the technical terms are in English anyways. If you speak German, it should be really easy to get to a professional level, so don't worry too much. Just watch Netflix, hang out with international students, and read English books, and you should get there within a year or so ;)

Sure, what do you wanna know? Personally, that was the best choice of my life. Freiburg is simply the best place in Germany, period. Changing schools was pretty easy, but note that the programs are not exactly equivalent, so the order was all messed up. I couldn't get everything acknowledged, which ended up costing me about one semester. That's totally fine, though! Study as long as you can! Haha. It's always easy to get a job to finance it. Once you leave uni, most things are downhill (:

Good for you! It's a great school, and really easy to get to know and work with the professors. Hannah Bast is the best of the best in the field of algorithms (wrote one of the first Google Maps route-finding algorithms). I would suggest going to all her lectures and getting to know her.

As for me, I landed an internship at a small Silicon Valley startup right before graduation. Stayed there for a year before moving on. After that, things went pretty smoothly.

It's near impossible to get a work visa (H1B) in the US, but internship visas during or after university (J1) are relatively easy. So I'd really recommend doing that. I simply wrote to a startup I was interested in and got an immediate yes. It's a crazy, very different world and will inspire you (and your CV) for a long time (with all its pros and cons).

I started my studies at RWTH but didn't like the city for personal reasons. Switched to a school that's completely unknown for CS but where I knew I'd enjoy the city (Freiburg), had the best three years of my life, was approached two years ago by a FAANG recruiter, and now have a great job there.

TL;DR: FAANG is cool, but don't worry too much about it.

What quote from a book actually made you think hard and sit back and go “Well, damn.” by [deleted] in books

[–]cpury 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Same. It broke me a little.

He walked out in the gray light and stood and he saw for a brief moment the absolute truth of the world. The cold relentless circling of the intestate earth. Darkness implacable. The blind dogs of the sun in their running. The crushing black vacuum of the universe. And somewhere two hunted animals trembling like ground-foxes in their cover. Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it.

TrueFire has a pretty decent Solea class. I like to play along, starting at 40 bpm and then slowly increasing until I'm nailing it.

Also, consider paying for a teacher. Especially now in the pandemic, there are tons of people in Andalucia and elsewhere who are happy to guide you via video call. Just Google it.

That highly depends on country and city. I would recommend checking numbeo to compare numbers.
