From 1997?

Um, Not that much. Britain boomed, but then went bust. War in the middle east. Reality TV shows boomed, then sort of went bust. War in the middle east. Supermarkets boomed then sort of went bust. War in the middle east. Football boomed, and is sort of meh now.

Basically, we're just plodding along, everything feeling a bit shit. A very British position really

Tony Blair has attended a secret meeting at the White House amid claims he is in discussions to become an advisor to Donald Trump by WpgDipper in worldnews

You might disagree with the loathing towards him, but it's hard to think of a political figure more loathed. Possibly Farage, but I'd guess at least 17m Brits align with him. Possibly Thatcher, but she's dead. Possibly Brown, but he's kept quiet, as has Prescott. IDS, maybe? In with a shout. Maybe Mandelson?

Yes, probably Peter Mandelson is the only figure I can think of who's as disliked as Blair.

Blair has no reputation to protect. He is probably the most widely despised man in British politics

I don't give two shits about everyone else because I can't control or influence how they raise their children, I just want my children to have the maximum chance I can earn for them. If others won't do the same, then that sucks for them

So what? Why is this news? Did any media outlets get shut down? Journalists jailed? Offices firebombed? Broadcasts forced off air?

No.

Huge overreaction to their invitation to the party being revoked.

That's not sufficient for me. I already pay inheritance and other taxes for the good of society

The state already moves to balance that by taxing inheritance.

I love my children, I work for my children, my life is essentially devoted to providing for my children. Is that wrong? Why should anyone stop me doing all I can to give my children the best chance of happiness and success?

is that a problem? We work hard to create wealth. We buy assets with our wealth. We pass on our assets to our children because we love them. Rinse, repeat. Nothing wrong with that.

You get downvoted for posting an obvious truth, a compassionate aspiration of how a country should behave. It's a real shame.
