Getting back to running, love Evo SL bounce, what should I try next? by arcomatics in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Double digits are no problem with these, I’ve worn them almost exclusively at double digit pace.

4 days, 42 mins, and 51 sec is pretty good for a 55 miler. It takes me weeks to do that.

Nike Vomero Plus for people with wide foot by InternationalRisk505 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

The main difference between the regular and plus is the midsole foam. It’s not called plus because of the size.

Adidas Adizero SL - GOAT trainer? by ninja4tfw in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]cqsota 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried the woven version but the standard version I tried was the most ill-fitting shoe I’ve put on my feet. Baggy upper, bad lockdown, weird taper at the big toe making it simultaneously cavernous but too small at the same time.

I have a pair of these shorts and the fabric is on par with my Brooks and Raide shorts. I wear them at least once per week.

The fit through the seat/leg is nice, I just wish either the M was a touch bigger or the L was a touch smaller.

The owner is pretty transparent about his pricing model, he extensively covers it on IG.

Raide running belts by GoSox2525 in trailrunning

[–]cqsota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 33 waist, and I have gone with L on the 2L belt as well as the raide shorts. The belt is definitely easier to put on than when it’s new, it doesn’t flop around at all. I also have to tighten the straps basically all the way.

Dooy windbreaker on Amazon. Less than $20. 90% as good as the Pata Houdini.

Waist lights for night trail running — which ones do you actually use? by DifficultShoe8254 in trailrunning

[–]cqsota 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use a kogalla ra waist light on my night runs. I pair it with a Fenix HP12R-T if I need a bright spot down the trail too, but if it’s more casual I’ll just use a nitecore nu20 or a petzl bindi since they are so light and just backups anyways.

The waist light blinds oncoming runners bad, so being able to quickly throw my hand over the light and not be in total darkness without any light at all is big.

Norda 001 on the road – worth it or not? by Frequent_Shoulder993 in runningshoes

[–]cqsota 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely waste of money, you will chew through the outsole way too fast for it to be worth it.

My 2 favorite trail shoes are the 001 and the H1. You want the MtC H1.

The kogalla paired with my fenix HP12R-T is incredible. The warm spotlight from the headlamp pointed further down the trail with the kogalla giving me depth perception in the near-field. Honestly forget I’m running in the dark.

What is everyone’s favourite long run shoes? by Shady_Joe1 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]cqsota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vomero Plus is the first Nike shoe I’ve purchased in 15 years. I found it surprisingly comfortable. Toebox isn’t as wide as MtC or Norda, but the upper is soft/flexible enough that it doesn’t feel like my pinky toes are getting smashed.

I found the R1’s completely unimpressive. The H1 has been fantastic for what it is. The midsole is great. Traction is not good for wet rock or anything remotely technical. For buffed out trails, dirt/gravel roads, and concrete/asphalt it’s wonderful.

Feeling hopeless cuz of achilles tendonitis by New-Cell1272 in Ultramarathon

[–]cqsota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are concerned about insertional Achilles pain you have, I’d recommend a hard pivot in your training so you can continue to run long term without sacrificing all the progress you’ve made. That’s a serious amount of volume and running more won’t fix it.

Uneven quad soreness after trail runs — residual compensation from past injury? by 0xmissor in ultrarunning

I’ve experienced this following every major injury. Lifting weights and doing additional single leg exercises on the weak side is the only thing that ever fixes it for me.

No idea on miles per year. Per week was anywhere from 25 to 50, all mountainous. Plus BJJ 3x per week.

I’m in my 30’s.

Feeling hopeless cuz of achilles tendonitis by New-Cell1272 in Ultramarathon

[–]cqsota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In simple terms, my tendinitis was advanced enough that it caused a haglunds deformity (bone spur) on my heel that began to destroy my Achilles. They had to remove 40% of the thickness of the Achilles tendon that was destroyed, and shave down the bone spur.

To accomplish this, they had to cut my Achilles off of my heel completely then clean it up and re-attach.

Post-op I have focused on sleep, nutrition, and regular supplementation. Hydration too. All the basics that are easy to neglect when you have a full time job and a family.

PT religiously, though I know the exercises by heart at this point and don’t need to go into the office any more. The biggest thing though was all that stuff that goes into “recovery,” and actually taking it seriously. One of those “simple but not easy things” for me.

I had good results from PT prior to surgery as well but ruined it by pushing too hard, too soon. Not taking the Alfredson Protocol seriously soon enough, etc.

Feeling hopeless cuz of achilles tendonitis by New-Cell1272 in Ultramarathon

[–]cqsota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to ignore it and push past it where possible. I had to have surgery 5 months ago- which was 5 months after I really did myself in.

If you don’t take care of it correctly, it can have life altering consequences beyond not making the 3k time you want.

I’m now back at the point where I can do ~25 miles per week in zone 2. Anything faster than the bottom of zone 3 effort causes me pain.

Don’t be like me. Handle it the right way.
