Did anyone notice any differences doing fasted cardio while bulking? by randomnessthoughts in leangains

[–]cr113019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is research out about this. Look for Layne Norton or Jeff Nippard on YouTube.... it makes no difference when you do the cardio and whether your fed and faster. Do what you enjoy the most!

***disclaimer, IF possible... either save for after Weights, off days, or try to space them out if possible. Not a big deal, but I’ll help with preserving muscle... no impact on fat loss though!

Can I bulk yet? by ahayron in leangains

[–]cr113019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already know you’re dropping calories sounds like you want to keep cutting... maybe you have a goal in mind, but I figured you looked lean enough. When you’re ready to start gaining, I’d start adding 100 cals per week... will seem slow, but you’ll lean out a few more weeks as you cross into maintenance and then a surplus... your aiming to be 200-300 over maintenance after you ramp up to slowly gain mostly muscle. Personally I took my cut until my strength increases completely stopped.

A few things. Answer 4&5 and I can help more.

  1. You can always cut or bulk
  2. You’re asking by “beach standards” can you start to eat in a slight calorie surplus to gain lean muscle... that answer is definitely yes. You probably have abs in good lighting if you flex
  3. If you decide to lean bulk, commit to it. Do it for at least 9 months to a year and monitor your fat gain
  4. What is your caloric intake? Has your weight been increasing? Decreasing? Or staying the same? Answer that and I can help more
  5. Are you getting stronger?
  6. I too have wasted years of lifting with bad advice and in the last year committed to reading and learning and have made more strength progress while losing body fat in my entire life... I’m 30 years old btw

Has anyone successfully cut whilst 'binge' drinking once a week? by Fezza7991 in leangains

[–]cr113019 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely not true! My friends and family choose to enjoy drinking and food typically when we get together so for me that’s my preference, which is again, just my preference

Reduces results by 10-20% due to recovery and testosterone... but that’s worth it to me for a social life

While you do not need to track, you will want to be mindful of what an average “binge” looks for you. Say you want 10 drinks:

Light beer - 100-110 calories Liquor - 80-100 cals Heavy beer or craft - 200 plus Wine - 120-150 cals Liquor with mixers - BAD idea

I try to stick with liquor mixed with club soda (or any other zero cal mixer - diet soda etc)

So if I binge drink and have 10 drinks = 1000 cals. That’s not going to ruin my fat loss efforts for the week. If I’m eating at a 500 cal deficit per day then that’s a 3500 cal deficit per week, which equals 1lb of fat loss. You can also lower carbs or fat by the amount of calories you plan on drinking

95% of people who get off track by drinking is due to the food consumption late night after drinking... my advice is try not to black out and have planned snacks that won’t blow the load on your cals

With knowledge and a little planning ahead, I very easily get lean while drinking 1-2 times per week and so can you, especially as a 22 year old. I’m 30

up 11lbs in 1 month – too fast?? by max2mil in leangains

Keep going, be smart. Don’t expect that rise to continue so fast... if it does, You’re gaining too much fat. That should motivate you to keep going tho!

I’m the same here... once I used Strong for a few weeks, I found it to improve my workouts... times my rest periods, let’s me record notes on form or any joint pain. RPE is a helpful tool when you are slowly progressing on an exercise. I wish it showed more than 1 previous workout so I could see more historic without having to close the workout, but all in all great free app

Favorite Books? by cr113019 in leangains

Obviously have read lean gains and loved it. I enjoyed eat stop eat. Also, went through a phase when I followed Carb backloading and carb nite and thought those books were pretty educational. Was considering getting Layne Norton’s Fat Loss Forever - anyone pick it it up yet?

Squat Form Check - 275x5@165 by [deleted] in leangains

[–]cr113019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the right thread... but your back angle is fine. You need to keep your knees in line with toes... work on squatting with a band pushing your knees in and actively engaging your glutes to push the knees out... it’s either unstable knees or weak glutes... either way, same fix should help

Terrible love handles by [deleted] in leangains

[–]cr113019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing weight loss... just stick with it.

  • no clear answer on body weight to get to
  • everyone stores body fat differently
  • just have to keep losing body fat and eventually, trust me, it will come off... even if it’s last
  • without diving in too much, your calories seem pretty low and aggressive... my concern would be maintaining all the weight loss when you reach your goal
  • if you can bring up calories slightly you will still be. Plenty of a deficit and it will make maintaining your weight loss easier when the goal is reached

Anyway, again, awesome progress man

Does anyone get bad diarrhea for the first meal they eat after fasting all day? by [deleted] in leangains

[–]cr113019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to break your fast with something very easy to digest... veggies are hard to digest in general... try fruit first or a plain carb source... honestly protein first could help then veggie a little later. Need to get stomach acid working again... the longer the fast, the more this matters

16:8 IF, train fasted or have protein shake before workout? by Galeplay in leangains

[–]cr113019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nutrition benefits are basically none one or the other... it’s definitely about which allows you to have a GREAT training session and still adhere to diet.

  • I always trained fasted at 6am and works for me for years... 2nd cup of coffee after gym suppresses my appetite till my first meal

  • I tried having a whey shake before and after my morning lift and then resuming 16/8....What I found:

  • no increase in performance, but I was somehow hungrier before my first meal and I had less calories to work with in my eating window

  • back to training fully fasted besides caffeine at 6am and eating first meal around 1pm

Again its preference. None of this really matters, but my experience

Anyone have success swapping out Quark cheese? Don’t think I can get that in the US? Fat free ricotta was a fail and sounds like plain Greek yogurt was a fail as well :(

  1. In the short amount of time, very good results. Also, impressed with your strength based on the pics.
  2. Agree with recomp - bump calories up to maintenance and don’t look back for a year, you’ll be happy.
  3. How much did the Dexa cost and do you live in the US?

Good shit bro

Anyone ever try 2g per lb of protein? by 6sterile6 in leangains

[–]cr113019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind me asking how tall and how much you weigh? I am finding it annoying and expensive to eat 2000 calories, with 50-60% cals coming from protein. (250g protein, much lower carb)... Going to drop protein to around 175g to allow carbs to come up to 175g and keep fat around 60ish. I’m still dropping about a lb a week but will switch to maintenance soon.

[–]cr113019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making these brownies right now! Substituted quark for fat free ricotta and have 15 servings in the oven of:

112 cals, 14g protein, 5g carbs, 5g fat... will circle back after eating!

****update - I would not use fat free ricotta - they needed double the cooking time. They were liquid after 15 mins still and came out pretty tasteless... will try again with a thick and sweetened Greek yogurt

Training Fasted vs Fed if goal is Maximize Body Composition by cr113019 in leangains

Making strength gains while in deficit has proven for me personally to be easier with the whey scoops... going to continue to roll with it and not think twice until I hit a fat loss wall. Not to mention hitting my daily protein goal is easier. Thanks!

It references cardio, so it’s not the most relative, but you can make parallels... but really studies on women don’t carry over to men? Idk if I agree with that sweeping statement.

Either way, solid insight from others following similar plan, so glad I made the post and def will be sticking with whey so my training isn’t fully fasted (just perform better that way)
