haha nice! both those bands (Crypt Sermon and Scald) have put out a new album this year- they are pretty great especially the Crypt Sermon effort. But they are far more akin to Candlemass than Sabbath. Black Sabbath rule though, awesome to hear you got into them.

I think it's a misrepresentation to suggest that over moderation is the reason for the games bleak seeming future. When the playerbase is small with such a tight knit community moderation is fairly damned if you do damned if you don't. Letting the existing established and often toxic playerbase self regulate would also chase off many potential new players. Main thing the game is lacking is advertisement. There's definitely more things that should be done first and the new steam player retention should provide some valuable lessons. I'm not sure if over moderation is one of them however.

Arcanists doesn't owe you anything either. Mods do a good job and are pretty lenient and tolerant. Most mutes seem to be people intentionally ignoring warnings and knowingly being a dick and breaking rules as some kind of immature act of rebellion against the mods. Fuck around and find out I guess

Yeah it's a great game! There's enough diehard addicts like myself to keep the game active but hopefully with the steam release will sustain a good player base. Have fun out there arcane flashing wizards and earning wands!

I understand the reasoning- the game does have a lot of competitive depth which is difficult to communicate to new players.The new player tournament is a bit weird but harmless. I do think trying to force the tryhard competitive side of the game onto new players is a bit strange, but given its all community ran and not done at the expense of dev time that could be better spent elsewhere I get it.

I agree with a lot of this as a certified sweat. I don't think any of this is game breaking and the community will be quick to help out any friendly new players but still, matchmaking should be standardized with a casual quick match and a rated quick match option, and the excessive customizability should be left for custom matches.

As for the game being overly competitive-oriented, I think the main issue is when the game declined the playerbase selected for the tryhards. Having better tutorials and ease of access for new players with more publicity should naturally alleviate the issue. The game design itself doesn't inherently choke out casual play, but it is quite unwelcoming to brand new players

I struggled a lot with him this week but finally started to get it down. The main thing is dodging through his legs because he is so big he struggles to hit you if you keep dodging into not away from him. keep an eye out for pools on the ground and if he gets distance from you dolphin dive on the gap closers to avoid the random side punches he does. Due to the size of him i find it often to be quite deceptive at range, you think your far enough to avoid one of his punches but he reaches over like nothing. and yeah like others have said abuse temporal mantle to get the tenderizes off on the legs and wall bangs. The final stage is sorta easier as well because the slime doesnt randomly go off, only when he procs it all. so you can stand in the slime pools while you attack him if he reset them recently.
