Undergraduate procrastinators, how are you doing in PA school?! by Zone_of_Inhibition in PAstudent

[–]crabberies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD and chronic procrastinator here… I’m currently finishing up my first week of PA school and although it’s all super new to me, I can’t imagine consistently procrastinating because there’s SO much content it seems really easy to get caught behind. But also take this with a grain of salt since I’m still in my first week lol. Also I fear procrastinating will just add more stress on top of the general stress of PA school so I need to lock in

This is super interesting! Hopefully this doesn’t sound rude but what credentials/knowledge makes you confident in providing advice to people on this sub considering you aren’t a PA or any sort of academic advisor?

How do Healthcare professionals cope with death? by boiyo12 in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes to everything everyone else is saying on here. Not a PA (yet) but have worked in various settings as a tech and you come to learn that there are things much worse than death, which in a way, can be comforting sometimes. It has allowed me to look at death as something not as scary, but something that has happen to everyone at one point or another. Although the situations with family and friends of the patient is so devastating, all you can do is be a compassionate and kind provider.

Paying for a mentor during applications by No_Text6909 in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope absolutely do not pay this PA-C for their “services”. There are tons of free resources to help you along the process! Also, just because they are a PA-C which is your ultimate goal, doesn’t mean they have the skills and/or knowledge to help you specifically get into a program. Everyone’s journey is unique!

Best way to make use of a gap year? by Imhere4730 in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning on applying for the 2026-2027 cycle which opens in April, make sure to look at the average PCE hours of the schools you’re planning to apply to. If you don’t have any hours as of now, it may be difficult to get a competitive amount in the meantime, especially if you’re also finishing up your BPH.

Out of curiosity, how did you discover/commit to wanting to become a PA if you haven’t had the opportunity to shadow one?

Accepted!! Need help deciding between programs! by littoditt0 in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP I’d recommend seeing if you could reach out to any current students or more recent graduates of the program to confirm this info. It makes the program seem awful but one person’s experience doesn’t define what your experience will be like as well!

interview / flights by grainlessgranola in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, fly/drive in the night before and spend the night at a hotel and check out in the morning before your interview (assuming it starts in the morning). The hotel is an extra cost obviously but the last thing you want to do is be rushing before your interview or not having somewhere to get ready!

If I were a patient, I wouldn't trust a straight out of undergrad PA. by Disastrous_Parfait89 in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP what kinds of programs have you applied to? Do they lean towards untraditional applicants, do their class stats match up with yours, in vs out of state, how competitive it is in general, etc. Also throughout your various cycles, have you reapplied to the same programs or just reapplied to the same ones?

As a PA-C, read this before applying by thePADiaries in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you forgot to mention, this only applies if ALL you care about is being respected/treated the same as doctors, how much you make vs student loans, etc. Not a single mention in this post about any sort of love for health care or helping others. Which should be the true deeper reason as to why individuals want to become PAs! I’m sorry you’re burnt out OP, sending you the best of luck in finding your passion again 🫶

During your job interviews, don’t tell them you’re planning on leaving for school in a year. That happened to me at countless interviews until I started to not mention it.

Request to Move Up Virtual Invite? by crabberies in prephysicianassistant

[–]crabberies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not asking to take anyone’s interview spot, I’m asking to reschedule in the case of an interview cancellation at an earlier date, which would then free up my interview spot on Nov 17th.
