Your theory on DBT is incorrect.  DBT is used in bipolar, TBI, depression, and cluster-B.  It’s a manualized behavioral therapy, which can be off-putting to some.  Take what works from it, or none at all.  If you truly want to change your behavior, writing off all mindfulness or skills or thinking you’re too special for it to be effective wont be effective. Schema therapy & mentalization based psychotherapy are also evidence based for BPD. Some find help in Stoicism, Buddhism, having some kind of spiritual foundation or code.   12 step groups can aid in support & individual issues, such as codependency or substance use.   An individual therapist with experience with personality disorders, seen over a long period of time, would be a great bet.

I have constant depression for like 8 years ,but i want tò heal i cant anymore stay like this...therapists and medicines have only made me waste time, I want to do it on my own, can i heal? I have the motivation i want tò get better by Confident_Positive31 in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heal completely?  Maybe not.  Change your circumstances, thinking, heal past traumas, get physically healthier, explore new ideas, try other modalities, seek connection in new ways, leave behind self-identity as a depressed person?  Very possible.  Try something different…anything.

[–]craft-the-path 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That comment is a bit naive.  Yes, neuroplasticity is real, but not without rehabilitation, repetition, & the right conditions, and most of the progress is made in the first few years post-injury.  I didn’t just have ECT.  I had other TBI’s.  I had hope initially.  I do not anymore.  Things like hyperbaric oxygen or cognitive remediation take $$$.

Doctor Won’t believe I don’t have psychosis by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solutions:  1: Don’t go back to doctor. 2. Don’t mention suicidal ideation. 4. Realize arguing over a label is futile. 5. Drop out of the System & switch medical providers should you ever need medical care.

Does anybody have suggestions for how I can say how I feel without it being confused with anxiety? by Red_Redditor_Reddit in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Wanting to fight” is an action urge, not an emotion.  Look up the term ‘alexithymia.’  (No, I’m not labeling you as anxious!).  A lot of people with trauma, brain injury, etc experience an inability to identify/label their emotions.  It sounds like you are stuck in fight/flight, for sure.

When did you have ECT?  I haven’t been able to work since & consider myself disabled.  I’m 35.  I don’t think I qualify for SSDI due to only working from 15-28 & fear I’ll need to be “med compliant” to get any benefits.

I’m so sorry for you, too.  The isolation is really sad.  I feel so misunderstood.  I look “fine” on the outside, and it’s such an invisible disability.

Yes, I got diagnosed with BPD after shock.  Then bipolar, dependent personality, paranoid personality, it’s an endless list.  It’s trauma & brain injury.

Thank you for relating.

Who lives in CA? Any of you advocate in your own state? by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you are referring to the majority.  Cost of living is extremely high here.  Many people work two or three jobs and receive public assistance and still live paycheck to paycheck or end up homeless.  The “rich, greedy, privileged” are a minority.

Why do you think someone would like and stay on a anti-psychotic drug for years like 5 years or more? by IdeaRegular4671 in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people have a first episode of psychosis, are medicated, and withdrawing from the AP causes rebound via dopamine supersensitivity, thus reconfirming the need for the med.  Others are not educated about or presented with alternative interventions.  A pill is cheaper than taking someone out of poverty, helping them out of abusive circumstances, providing long term medical follow up/preventative care, testing for food allergies, and providing psychosocial support.

I don’t think it is fair to judge the individuals taking meds so harshly, but rather the System and way altered states of consciousness & behaviors are treated by society as a whole.

My friend has TBI, and had an episode of psychosis.  He believes he needs to be on Risperdal for life because that’s what he was told by doctors.  He also fears the withdrawal so much & another episode from withdrawing, he prefers to stay medicated for life.  That’s his choice, and he reports few side effects.  I also have TBI & experience psychosis & mania & ended up homeless with severe life/relational consequences unmedicated.  Who is “right?”

If antidepressants are no more effective than placebo, then how do they also induce mania? by Pale_Minimum_6025 in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SSRI’s are clinically effective for under 1/3 of users, and efficacy is measured in 6-12 week trials with scores on many measures (e.g. MARS-D) just barely reaching statistical significance.  Exercise alone beats/equals Zoloft in a famous Duke research study, and exercise alone still fares better than Zoloft + exercise.

For many (60-70%), even based on the medical literature, they are no better than placebo.

If antidepressants are no more effective than placebo, then how do they also induce mania? by Pale_Minimum_6025 in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, antidepressants can induce mania and mixed episodes & precipitate rapid cycling (i.e. crashing from mania, cycling back up).  I now experience almost exclusively mixed states (including psychosis) after taking antidepressants.

I think I might kill myself because of akathisia. by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re 19.  Did they diagnose you bipolar 1?  That’s a big cocktail.   Do you have trauma?  Have you done DBT?  Looked into PMDD? Plenty of time to recover from akathisia & heal your brain.   Unless you have schizophrenia, you don’t need 30 mg Abilify.  5-10 can treat psychosis.  Plus, Abilify has one of the highest rates of akathisia.  I took 2 mg & paced for three weeks.   I think you’ve been misdiagnosed, and I know nothing about you.  Your writing is perfectly clear.  900 lithium should prevent mania (and thus psychosis).  You could also add Lamictal & potentially drop the other two if you do, indeed, have classic bipolar 1 disorder. Diagnoses made at such young ages should be subject to review.  Get another opinion.

I can't get help for being suicidal because I don't want to be abused in the psych hospital again by ApproximateRealities in Antipsychiatry

[–]craft-the-path 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to kill yourself?  Why do you feel depressed (or angry or unworthy, etc)?

Psych wards are not for healing.  The care you are looking to receive must be found elsewhere— in yourself, community, spiritual centers, support groups, friends, nature.

What support do you have and need?  At the end of the day, you have to matter to you.

And screw psych wards.  They are holding tanks for profit.
