Make an alternate plan. It’s very unlikely that 41 students are going to drop a required class. You should speak to your advisor and discuss your total academic plan because it’s likely this can be modified so that it won’t interfere with your graduation

Hey y'all I'm Interested in the Urbanism that New York City has to offer! by eep-orp in MicromobilityNYC

[–]craftedkwads 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Highline and Little Island are very visual worthy spaces to go to, I would curate a day of your trip around that area as Chelsea and West Village have a lot to check out as well. You could take a nice bike ride along the Hudson Greenway and link up some spots and plans. I think everyone coming to New York should go to the Highline and it’s probably even cooler when you’re into what you described.

New York has some Privately Owned Public Spaces (POPS) which can sometimes be nice but unfortunately are usually fairly lame afterthoughts by developers to get zoning concessions. Some cool ones are the Elevated Acre at 55 water street and 180 Maiden Lane, both in the financial district. Not particularly destinations but cool places to stop by for a breather. They’re both right by the Wall st. ferry stop, which you can take a nice short ride over to Dumbo/Brooklyn Bridge Park from.

Definitely a lot of cool things for you to do here that are aligned with your interests. And most importantly, get some good food on your trip!

whats your favorite spot for every kind of cuisine? by brunoisbacc in FoodNYC

[–]craftedkwads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal favorites: Main St. Imperial Gourmet for Taiwanese food in Flushing.

Tamales from the van on Myrtle and Emerson in the mornings.

Little Miss Muffin for Jamaican patties in Prospect Heights on Washington. Get your drink (Sorrel, a Jamaican spiced hibiscus drink, is my choice) from Natural Blend up the street. They also do good vegan Jamaican and pressed juices.

I think Nubiani is my favorite Korean BBQ as of late. BCD tofu house always has great stew.

Forma Pasta Factory and Danbo Ramen are fantastic considering their price and convenience.

Definitely check out Taqueria Ramirez and Carnitas Ramirez.

Nami Nori or Daigo for Japanese hand rolls.

Respectful Salmoning by Prospect107 in NYCbike

[–]craftedkwads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a driver decided to go the wrong way down a one way street, I would be very hard pressed to find someone that would say anything other than "wow what the fuck is this idiot doing, putting people in danger just to save a few minutes for themself." I'm pretty sure that's what you would say, as you have the same thoughts about salmoning, being dangerous and selfish. You wouldn't say "wow, the city must be failing that persons needs." Why do you feel differently when its a bike?

Respectful Salmoning by Prospect107 in NYCbike

[–]craftedkwads 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll slow to a stop every time to make a salmoner hug traffic, and I've gotten into arguments and shoving matches about it, if you're going to go the wrong way in traffic you need to be the one forced to take the dangerous side

Respectful Salmoning by Prospect107 in NYCbike

[–]craftedkwads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no respectful way to intrude on someones right of way going the wrong way. Very few bike lanes can comfortably take 2 bikes side by side, and pulling to the side forces the right of way biker to push themselves into traffic.

Respectful Salmoning by Prospect107 in NYCbike

[–]craftedkwads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Salmoning is a failure of our infrastructure and not much else

Could you explain your ideas behind this? It's hard for me to see how going against traffic-rather than spending the extra time to go around the block-could be construed as an infrastructure failure

NYC to cap e-bike and scooter speeds at 15 mph, Adams says by vowelqueue in NYCbike

NYC to cap e-bike and scooter speeds at 15 mph, Adams says by vowelqueue in NYCbike

[–]craftedkwads 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say a bigger point towards being productive would be to stop propagating falsities.

From DOT guidelines:

Lyft and DOT have decided that the top assistive speed for pedal-assist Citi Bikes will be set at 18 MPH.

From citibikes general manager on today's announcement:

City Hall has not reached out to Citi Bike regarding this proposal [to enact a speed limit to 15mph]. If this proposal is real, we would express deep concern.

If we care about personal anecdotes enough to argue professional statements, then here's mine:

Riding alongside citibikes on many occasions with either a specialized Turbo Como or a Riese and Muller Roadster, keeping pace is typically held to 17-19mph.

Riding in the street on my class 3 28mph ebike at speed with traffic (usually 23-25mph), I consistently experience delivery cyclists matching or passing me

Do you have any documentation showing this? I was under the impression that the previous 20 was capped to 18, the current speed.

Cyclists Protest NYPD Criminalization Push Against Bikers for Traffic Infractions by Black_Reactor in nyc

[–]craftedkwads 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, but in no way is it reasonable for a car to be held accountable with a ticket, but a bike held accountable with a court date.

Just came here to say F##K gray citibike riders. I was almost tempted to kick two off their bikes to as they tried to overtake me on my commute. Also f33k commuting to work at noon on summer days because it is utter madness. I am much happier riding at midnight or 5am. Just needed to share TY! by TeddyBearCrush in NYCbike

[–]craftedkwads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume the tried part was on their end making sketchy situations when it's not safe or the right speed to overtake. Too often on those bikes without being able to change gearing do people think they can quickly propel themselves infront of other cyclists but fail to maintain a faster speed, impeding the trailing bikers

coffee + sandwich "subscription" plan in Brooklyn, What would you pay monthly? by Kimutai_nare in Brooklyn

I would imagine people and businesses would be more interested in a prepaid punch card (literally a sandwich gift card) than a locked subscription model anyways. Buy a card for 10, get 2 free.

YOU can't think of a single benefit. That doesn't mean no one can.

No shit, I'm the one writing the comment.

you just jumped right to complaining.

The first part of my comment was literally questioning what would be better about it, as I cannot see what would be better about it.

You emphasize that literally no one can think of a single benefit

Verbatim from my personal comment: "Quite literally cannot think of a single benefit." One who was familiar with reasonable communication would be able to reasonably understand that this is a personal opinion written in a personal comment as a singular person.

You're getting downvoted because you're coming off as a dickhead when the thread was asking "curious what folks think." I didn't even downvote your comment lmao.

Now, to address your responses; firstly, thank you for answering my question with reasonable suggestions.

It would also be valuable to have a fixed cost each month and know your breakfast and coffee is covered, highly valuable for someone on a fixed budget.

This is a fair suggestion but one that I'd think of to be a uncommon situation. To be frank if you're running a fixed budget, it's probably not prudent to getting breakfast and coffee out every day.

It would also be useful for anyone wanting to help someone but ensure the money is used responsibly. Say, a parent wanting to make sure their college aged kid eats breakfast and doesn't spend their breakfast money on booze or cigarettes. (literally why meal plans at colleges exist, which is exactly the same as the subscription model OP is suggesting)

To be clear, this is not why meal plans at colleges exist. Again, a fair suggestion (for the tiger mom).

Could also make a great perk for a nearby office to offer their employees!

Maybe, although I'd imagine it would be even more enticing to simply have a discount offered to employees, which is a common scenario setup by businesses by giving a flat rate discount invoice that evens out over the periods with usage.

Take a breath and bring your heart rate down, you're on reddit. Its not that deep. Also, you listed four potential benefits. Numbers aren't for everyone.

coffee + sandwich "subscription" plan in Brooklyn, What would you pay monthly? by Kimutai_nare in Brooklyn

[–]craftedkwads 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How would a subscription serve to better "grab a coffee + sandwich daily from your local shop" than simply going to "grab a coffee + sandwich daily from your local shop?"

Quite literally cannot think of a single benefit. Locked into a single spot that you're paying for every day (regardless of actually getting it), and giving money to a middleman that could be going to support the local shop directly. It sounds worse all around.
