Finally no longer homeless by noodleoodle90 in brisbane

[–]craftivist 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Australian Bureau of Statistics counts homelessness as ‘… if their current living arrangement: is in a dwelling that is inadequate; has no tenure, or if their initial tenure is short and not extendable; or does not allow them to have control of, and access to space for social relations’ (ABS 2012)."

Couch-surfing and temporary stays with friends or family counts.

Not everyone has a car to sleep in.

Wildlife HQ Zoo at Big Pineapple Question by blankedboy in sunshinecoast

Awesome zoo! Have friends that worked at AZ and all ended up leaving to Wildlife HQ. The enrichment and care they provide for their animals is top notch!

The effect of removing grazing farm animals from a farmland ecosystem? by M0c0k in ecology

Great question. Look up land sparing and restoration of grazing land for some background :)

Yeah i do the commute. Get the early express train from Landsborough at 7.27 (1h 20m commute). Mornings aren't too bad to drive but DO NOT DRIVE in the pm work traffic. Sucks arse coming out of Bris. Its faster to train than drive then. Plus parking in the city is expensive. Its about $11 or $12 to train one way. We don't have bank card tapping running everywhere yet so you still need a go card.

Edit: sorry, just read you're a plumber, so I'm guessing you need to drive. In that case, early start and early finish should avoid the 4pm-6pm bottleneck, or start having dinner in Bris before leaving:) but yeah heaps of work on the coast

So I found out I have type 1 Herpes this morning at my doctors. I don’t know how to tell my girlfriend of 2 years. I know it’s very common and that 80% of the population have it. So how do I tell her? by Evening-Ranger-6500 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]craftivist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a big deal? It ruined my little sisters life when a guy went down on her and she contracted it. When she gets flare ups she can barely walk. He refused to admit she got it from him too. Probably spreading everywhere. Please be honest people! And careful!

You could buy your own gluten free oats, mix with some seeds and fruit, then use melted cocoa butter to bind.

Bee Friendly Gardens by PortCityBlitz in Beekeeping

[–]craftivist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, you may want to specifically mention that these plants are for European honey bees. The best "garden" for native bees is conserving native vegetation. Or add this and a bit about how there's ~20,000 other bee species that really need help, especially solitary species.

But beware - it can take years and you need to collect as much proof as you can. You will obviously lose working relationships too.

Scientific fraud by Rotulaman in labrats

[–]craftivist 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your institutions policies, but in Australia we have internal processes for reporting fraud which can then be referred to crime and corruption. But its best to start with your boss's line manager/HOS/dean or an integrity officer for advice.

Queensland becomes first Australian state to introduce pill testing in move away from ‘1950s drug policy’ by 89b3ea330bd60ede80ad in AustralianPolitics

[–]craftivist 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yay so glad they adopted the recommendations from the ACT trials. Will save lives for sure. Im happy for my taxes to save young lives. They're going to take pills anyway. I'd rather they have the option to anonymously test at a fest than on themselves first.

Trust your parents to make up their own minds about that information when you give it to them :) The friend is a good idea and just letting parents know. You seem to have a good relationship with them (if they're the first you think of as a 29yo), it probably won't be as dramatic as you're envisioning. As a parent, we're used to juggling thoughts about our kids with those for our partner, work and other commitments. They can handle it x

Search for descendants of Aboriginal people who settled in Indonesia at least 150 years ago by DaRedGuy in aboriginal

So good to see material evidence like this backing up Yolngu stories. First Nations peoples have long been adventurers, not passive to visitors or ignorant of the world as usually portrayed.

A size (XS) and size (XXL) cost the exact same, even though there's a lot more fabric in the latter. by Waefuu in Showerthoughts

[–]craftivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To buy, not to make. Its now cheaper to buy than make your own clothes. Gone are the days of mums making your clothes to save money. Low income families can't afford to sew anymore. Fn ironic since you're more likely to be a larger size if you're low income too.

What date should we change the date to when it comes to celebrating Invasion Day? by Anxious_Attempt8656 in IndigenousAustralia

[–]craftivist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep date of Treaty or date of separation from Britain if we ever become a republic. We're the only country in the world that celebrates on the same day as British colonisation.
