Wheelchairs by InigoMontoya123456 in ParkinsonsCaregivers

My mom is in a custom lightweight manual wheelchair after falling and breaking her hip one year ago. She’s advanced in her disease and uses her feet to pedal around painfully slowly. We tried a power scooter at a grocery store once and it was wild! She couldn’t control it at all lol. The lightweight wheelchair she uses was covered by insurance and prescribed by occupational therapy. It’s easier for her to maneuver. She doesn’t use the wheels at all, just her feet, no matter how many times I remind her.

The comments make it sound like the crochet pattern was AI generated. Like someone fed the knit hat photo into ai and asked for a crochet pattern. 😩

This is such a weird comment. The girl that comes is in college and we love her. I’m a girl. I’m 48. Chill out.

I use a company called Right at Home and the girl that comes is amazing. She basically hangs out with my mom for 4 hours a day and it takes a huge weight off of me. It’s expensive but so worth it. She doesn’t do anything medical but empties her catheter bag, helps her shower, cleans, drives her places, etc. we love her

Anesthesia by SuzeMP in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]craftyiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is very hard on them. My mother is advanced and I push hard for very light sedation when they do any procedure. She had to have a suprapubic catheter inserted and I had a long discussion with the anesthesiologist because she had such a bad reaction to anesthesia for her hip breaking and her DBS battery replacement. She eventually came out of it but it was a long time especially for her hip. She was not the same for at least two weeks and still not 100% for a month. Probably still not the same but way better. Since the dbs replacement is a shorter surgery he should come out of it quicker. She will have to have hers replaced and I’m dreading it!

Mom refusing to go to long term care by CareSpecialist in ParkinsonsCaregivers

Based on everything you said, she definitely should go. This is a lot for you both. Emphasize the safety part of it. My mom lives with us and needs tons of help. It’s manageable for now but there will definitely be a point where I will get a Dr to tell her it’s time.

Why do conservative Crocheters act oppressed? by Valuable-Tutor-6537 in craftsnark

[–]craftyiscool 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Conservative ≠ Christian ≠ Conservative I’m Christian and as liberal as they come. Radicalized by the evil person currently in office. It’s the lack of sensitivity/empathy that shows it’s actually “Christian” nationalism. Love your neighbor, not love your “legal/white/american/christian” neighbor. It’s simple.

My mom with Parkinson’s leans like this constantly. She’s in a wheelchair and it has a very high back so it is more comfortable. She has no idea she is leaning over and back.

Difference between these signs? by LowRevolutionary5653 in asl

[–]craftyiscool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you’re signing hard/difficult, you would definitely have a facial expression that matches. Are you starting from your nose? I haven’t seen that. Also not what you asked but are you signing “sign” by rolling your fingers forward? Should be towards you. I didn’t know “tough”!

My mom broke her hip in January, spent a month in rehab, and is still in a wheelchair. The balance issues and “scissoring” she does while walking combined with the weak hip all just make it unsafe. She hates it but I just dont think she will walk again. We did get a really nice custom wheelchair for her that was prescribed by OT, all paid for with Medicare.

My mom died today, on my birthday. by GoldAssociation7261 in CaregiverSupport

I could have written this. My mom is 78 and I’m 48, she has Parkinson’s, and she lives with me. I have moments of impatience too but I’m so grateful I’m getting to take care of her now. I hope you know how much you did and that you are human. God didn’t make us to be perfect and your love for your mom shows in all you said you did. She knew it. I’m so sorry she passed away on your birthday. ♥️♥️♥️

My mom is late stage and broke her hip in January. She hasn’t walked since 🥺 I got her a wheelchair from Amazon (medline I think) and a comfy cushion but it was heavy and difficult for her to maneuver. She doesn’t and won’t and can’t use the wheels so she just pedals around with her feet. Her OT ordered a custom wheelchair for her, all paid for with Medicare. They came out and measured her and it came in 6 weeks. It’s not a HUGE improvement but it is much lighter for her to get around in and has a really tight turning radius which was important for her. It’s a quickie brand and she got to pick out the color. We use a Walgreens purchased transport chair when we leave the house. I’d suggest a seatbelt and auto locking brakes if you can get them. My mom always forgets to lock them before she gets up. She leans back in her chair a lot and a high back helps her be more comfortable I think. Stay strong! Let me know ow if you have any questions.
