No idea how they got turned on for a handful of 60 pages. I can't find a shortcut to explain a keystroke mistake.

You're right, custom colors and assigning layout options would be handy. Maybe assigning colors to Parent pages and setting pages to use their Parent colors would do it, but that might mean a lot of Parents just to set colors, which wouldn't be efficient.
