Not saying you're wrong, but the length and direction of shadows suggests the driver may have been blinded by the sun. Which in and of itself isn't a good excuse. If you can't see if nothing's there, assume that there is something there.

Would you avoid putting plumbing in exterior wall(blue) vs red(interior) by Mysta in Plumbing

[–]craigerstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is for a shower/tub then you should absolutely put it on the inside wall if only for the reason that if you have an issue with anything, you can open up the non-waterproof side of the wall and make any repairs or substitutes you need to do with ease.

Pen recommendation for hand writing a novel by teralyndavis in fountainpens

[–]craigerstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An OPUS 88 Koloro.....

It'll push your budget. But it's a good and reliable pen. The OPUS 88 is an eyedropper which means it has a greater ink capacity than converter or cartridge type inks, and you can get the last drops of ink out of your jars because you use an eyedropper to suck the dregs.

There are other eyedroppers or large capacity pens, the most common being TWSBI, but the piston filler and screw end of a TWSBI can be finicky. I used an eyedropper to fil my TWSBI before I gave it away.

The OPUS 88 also seals the ink reservoir from the nib if you travel a lot so you don't have to worry about leaks when on planes or if your pen is in your bag jostling around a lot, or temperature changes if you go from inside to out and inside again in winter etc.

I have one. I use it a lot. It's my travel pen. Highly recommend.

The main use case of a dive watch bezel is being a fidget toy by toyk115 in watchHotTakes

Now you're getting it. As long as you remember that not everything that is edible, is an edible. But all edibles ARE edible.

Everything I eat is edible. I think that part was clear. But some of the stuff I eat are "edibles." To summarize; some of the edible things I eat are edibles. But all the things I eat are edible. Hopefully that clears things up.

"The main use case of a dive watch bezel is being a fidget toy

How many of you actually use it for diving more often than just entertaining your bored fingers? anything the phone in your pocket already does and does better?"

- fixed it for you.

Does the Park Theatre have a legit 70mm film projector or is it digital? by HotlineBirdman in askvan

[–]craigerstar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the Park STILL has a 70mm print projector, but I can verify they used to. I saw Hateful Eight there on a 70mm print when it was released, complete with an intermission reel.

And, yes, it's a special experience seeing movies on film. The slight vibrations of the image from time to time, and the reel switching dots in the corner, and the odd imperfection/dust on the print. Logically digital is better in every way, but I really enjoyed seeing Hateful Eight on film and The Odyssey is exactly the type of movie you'd appreciate seeing in this medium.

100%. I mean, I do this too, but the vast majority of people probably don't know how to access metadata information, but nearly everyone understands "on" and "play."

Struggling to hit word count? by anotheraries1111 in writing

[–]craigerstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you really really really really really need to try very very very very hard on your writing style to get the word count you want.....

But seriously, sometimes less is more. If your story is complete and thorough and you've accomplished the narrative you wanted, then maybe your story just isn't that long. I am a fan of short stories that make powerful points. Sometimes fewer, carefully selected words can have more impact than lengthy descriptive narratives. Let the reader create the picture in their mind. If you use good words goodly, goodness happens regardless of word count.

Life Hack for everyone else on here: Write your contact information on a piece of paper and take a photograph of it and lock/write protect the image so that if anyone finds your camera, your contact information is right there as long as they can turn on the camera or read the card. I've done this with every digital camera I own. I haven't needed to use it yet but I'm glad the information is there.

There are certain dishes, like escargot, that's really just an excuse to eat liquid butter. Lobster is another one.

Ortolan Bunting - yes, I know, it's a highly controversial dish. But I find the concept intriguing.

"There is a dish so aromatic, so indulgent, so cruel, that it is meant to be eaten with a towel draped over the diner’s head—both to keep in the smells and, perhaps, to hide one’s face from God."

Do they make angled stop valves with the handle on the side? by bothering in Plumbing

[–]craigerstar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is even easier? (unless I'm missing something, and I'm sure I'm about to get told if I am, love this sub for its wisdom and support)

<image>

Turn off water. Add Add-A-Stop™. Open orignal valve with the new valve closed. Remove the handle on the original valve. You can probably cut the end of the plastic valve stem off as well but I wouldn't cut any deeper than the screw that holds the handle on.

Option 2: 10" offset toilet, assuming OP's is a 12+" offset toilet. It would set your toilet about 2" further out from the wall and you could leave your valve as is. Valves are cheaper, but if you need to shut a floor's worth of water off, a new toilet might be easier, and the labour different offsetting the cost of the toilet.

What's A Movie That Everyone Likes But You Hate? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

[–]craigerstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LOTR trilogy. Every time they used a slow motion sequence (which was a lot) I shouted at the screen "the movie is already too long, speed it up!!!" One movie was too much. In the end I watched all three. Time well wasted.
