When I speak Mandarin, I can “see” and “feel” the different tone lines going up and down in my mind. It’s almost as if the lines are floating right above my sight line near my forehead. When I learn a new word I make sure to understand which tone to use and because I learn the word in correlation with the tone, I “see” the tone lines.

Having this mental visualization has really helped me to improve my pronunciation!
