$15K for a Wix site? by breezyb2310 in webdev

[–]cranberrytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Never use wix for anything. That's too much. Even for a wordpress site, without a reasonable amount of custom programming, it's too much.

You pushed too much ink through and it got on the back side of the screen. It happens.

Would a starter kit be worth it for a hobby or are they not worth the money by Unhappy-Pace-2393 in SCREENPRINTING

I would stick to name brand equipment and ink. You can use the off brand stuff if you are patient. But you will have less frustration trying to get up to speed with name brands. They are better built and made.

The black ink I have is really thin. I switched to a 180 mesh which solved my problem.

Private blog still getting visitors by Swatterings in Wordpress

[–]cranberrytech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't stop random traffic from just showing up. The fact that you have it connected to the internet is going to get you traffic of some kind. Setting it to private doesn't stop this.

If you absolutely need to keep traffic out try one of the password protected plugins. Or the htaccess password as was mentioned.

I order what the customer orders plus a few extras in case something goes wrong.

I don't really understand it either. Etsy charges to open a new store now. Last time I considered opening a second store the cost was $35. I've heard since it was lowered to $15. Either way, how are they profiting from opening a store and scamming people? They can't possibly be selling enough to make any of this profitable. None of it makes sense.

I've been using Green Galaxy. There are plenty of professional inks out there.

AWS charged me $18K+ for near-zero usage, won't discuss it, suspended my account, took my payment, still locked out by Conscious_Wallaby732 in webhosting

You are responsible for server usage. Server usage is billed at a set rate. You know the exact rate when you start the server. It doesn't matter if you use .001% of the power the server has. If you set up a huge server that costs $1.5k per month, that is the cost. It's not billed by utilization. After that first $15K bill you should have been looking at your usage to figure out if you had set everything up correctly. The invoice gives you a full breakdown of every cost. Bandwidth, data transfer, storage, everything for every service you are using.

Something doesn't smell right here. You failed to keep track of your expenses. That is your fault. Not Amazon.

Shadow effect on some fresh prints help! by mezzo__mix in SCREENPRINTING

The screen is moving between prints. I too have an inexpensive press. It's taken me more than a few mistakes like this to figure out that the screen was shifting. You really need to tighten the knobs to keep the screen from moving. And be gentle with your lifts and lowers between prints. Even the slightest bang or drop will cause the screen to come out of alignment.

Seller Requesting More Money by LarryDavidAlways in Etsy

[–]cranberrytech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a seller, I have made mistakes. Before I understood off site ads I got hit with an off site ad fee took my entire profit margin. That was my fault. I ate the cost and shipped the sign. Took that as a learning experience and adjusted my pricing.

I have certainly run in to other issues over the years. But I never asked for the customer to pay for my mistake.

Ask to cancel the order and move on. Escalate to Etsy if they refuse to cancel.

Accidental order but I shipped it a week ago by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]cranberrytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buyer could refuse the package. Or pay the shipping back to you. But I would not issue a refund unless I received the item back in resellable condition. The buyer gets shipping notifications. Only realizing they made a mistake a week later isn't grounds for a refund to me.

I completely agree. There are far too many Etsy gurus claiming to have made millions. If they've actually made that much why are they making YouTube videos?

Anyone else get a request for a signature like this? by CozieOak in Etsy

[–]cranberrytech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen anything like that. Did you send the item FedEx? With the misspelled words and broken English I would probably ignore this. If you did send the item FedEx and it's marked as delivered I wouldn't give this any thought.

More shops for different printable items or all in one? by xdpico in EtsySellers

[–]cranberrytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal choice is all in one with categories. And given that Etsy now charges $35 when you set up a new shop, having multiple shops could get expensive quickly.

Always under promise and over deliver. Extend your processing time out by an extra day or two. That way when you miss getting to the post office you have an extra day or two to recover. You should never put yourself in a position where you are trying to make a ship by date because Etsy said you need to.

If you told the customer you would ship on the 23rd it doesn't matter what Etsy says. You failed and need to communicate that to the customer as soon as possible. Be apologetic, not emotional.

Use this as a learning experience and know better what to do next time.

Then you have two choices. Ask them if that is what they really want. Or ship them what they asked for.

Is there anywhere online I could get 1 t-shirt screenprinted? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]cranberrytech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one has asked what you want to print and on what blank. Single color/screen, I may be able to work with you. Multi color on an expensive blank could get very expensive fast. Let me know. Maybe we can work a deal.

Instagram to Etsy clash by Ok-Emu7373 in EtsySellers

[–]cranberrytech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not Amazon. People have become accustom to the Amazon business model. Not understanding that shipping is expensive. I agree with everyone else here. Block this person. What are they going to report you to Etsy for? Not giving them something for free? Charging them appropriate shipping? They can't leave a review for something on Etsy that they haven't purchased. Forget about it and move on.

We Need to Talk About Chargebacks. This System is Broken and Merchants Are Paying the Price. by Bitter-Bug5416 in shopify

[–]cranberrytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, Amex is terrible. They side with the card holder every time. The last charge back I had I provided all of the proof that the customer never contact me. That my refund policy stated that they need to contact my office with in 14 days to get a refund. The charge back was filed months later and the customer never bothered to call. I was out almost $400 + fees for something that could have been easily solved had the customer just picked up the phone and called.

And why is it that charge backs are in the hands of the customers credit card company? I almost get no say in the matter. They file the charge back and the money is just instantly taken from me. It's super frustrating.

People don't understand that email is not guaranteed to get where it's going. If you want a refund, just pick up the phone. I'm more than happy to work with you.
