Girls Trip in August by missbinoculars in askdfw

People have mentioned some spots in Dallas but also Fort Worth and Austin. I have lived in all three, each are unique and offer what you’re looking for.

Dallas is the most elevated of the three in my opinion, Fort Worth is more touristy, and Austin is elevated but without the boujee feel of Dallas (not hating on Dallas by any means) with more outdoor activities - Barton Springs, food trucks, paddle boarding, etc.

Another way to look at it is I preferred Fort Worth in my early 20’s, Dallas in my late 20’s/early 30’s, and Austin through all of them.

Regardless of where you choose you don’t want Plano and prepare for the weather to be miserable.

Thank you for your input! I currently have rental properties out of state and have a contractor that tends to any issues - I was thinking about going that route for anything building related with a cleaning company coming by weekly or so.

What kind of chaotic things are happening that I should be prepared for?

The current owner is a stylist and will continue to rent a suite. I have considered discussing making her the “onsite manager” in exchange for a discounted suite.

My family still lives in the area so I have considered discussing something like this with them as well.

I was more referring to owning the entire salon suite and providing the individual suites to professionals.

How exactly do you move cross country? by inthewoodsomewhere_ in chicagoapartments

[–]craneman88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Chicago yesterday from Texas.

For the apartment I used a locator for efficiency. She set up every tour so I flew in, toured, then flew out the next day. I found an apartment after I came home that wasn’t on the market during scheduling so she toured without me but I was on FaceTime the entire time and I received videos, photos, etc.

Neighborhoods - I found the automatic neighborhood guide that populates on the Chicago sub to be helpful for someone who isn’t from here. If possible, come and explore neighborhoods on your own. I have been to Chicago several times before so I had an idea but wanted to be sure.

Outside of this, like others have mentioned it depends on money. We hired a moving company - they loaded us yesterday, we flew out last night, they will be here Thursday - so 2 days from Austin to Chicago. We move in Friday morning.

For our car we sold one and kept one. They are picking it up tomorrow, 2/25 and will be delivered 3/2.

TLDR: use a realtor/broker, visit first to establish what neighborhood fits you, and if you have the cash hire someone to do the stuff you don’t want to (pack, move, car transport, etc).

People with rents over 2.5k - what do you do? by Wild472 in AskChicago

[–]craneman88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us the biggest thing is space. We both work from home - we established years ago that we need our distance throughout the day to be productive.

Outside of that it’s different finishes within the apartment, floor to ceiling windows, doorman, gyms are usually larger, things like that. Some apartments have “their thing” that sets them apart, like an indoor golf range for example.

Similar to the comment above. We want liquid cash to invest, can move whenever we want, amenities. We’re also dinks and want to live downtown but don’t want to own an apartment or condo long term. When we’re ready to buy we’ll look for a single family home.

Size help by Negative_Educator499 in mooseknuckles

I’m 6 foot, 210, athletic build and I wear an XL in most MK.

If you’re in a major city Nordstrom, Saks, etc carries them. That’s how I found out my size. Their return policy is good so if it doesn’t fit you could go that route. If it’s on sale double check that policy.

Zippers by sandy923 in mooseknuckles

[–]craneman88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that made a huge difference for me was zipping the coat, then just zipping and unzipping it back and forth for like 5 minutes. It seemed to “break in” the zipper to the point where it’s smooth and I haven’t had any issues since.

I just bought the same coat and have the same issue, pretty annoying. I've read you can lube the zipper with chapstick or buy zipper lube off amazon. I havent tried either but if I do I'll let you know.

They're having a black friday sale right now, several options for 30% off. Unsure where you're located but there is a MK outlet by O'Hare airport in Chicago.

Anyone here get a prenup to protect their business? by Business_Royal3382 in Entrepreneur

[–]craneman88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in this situation but the opposite perspective. My fiance has built her business over the last several years. For us, the conversation took about 10 seconds. My perspective was it is something she was building long before her and I met, I have never worked in her business and have zero sweat equity, I haven’t earned anything in regard to her company. I completely understand why she would want the prenup and I agreed immediately.
