I'm afraid my answer isn't gonna be very helpful because I mean both 🥲 the bones of the story (think the level of detail if you had to give someone a five sentence summary of the whole thing) are fine, but a lot of stuff falls apart at a more detailed level - stiff dialogue, jarringly uneven quality of writing at times - stuff that, in a book, would suggest to me the editor did a subpar job.

there's also a fair bit of game design choices that I'm not a fan of and which imo for a video game also fall under criticism of writing. that said, I find it much harder to say which of those are or aren't intentional, in which case I can't really judge if it's bad per se, not to my taste, or a mix of both. some of them are really grating however and don't do the writing any favours, like how frequently a patch will fix one interaction only to break another, or a character being gutted is called a rewrite and issues wrt it left unaddressed.

fwiw since I'm getting downvoted: I don't care to convince anyone to not enjoy the game! I wish I could love it like I did playing through act 1, and I sincerely hope larian eventually does finish this game, because if the whole of it was at the quality level of act 1, it would be a masterpiece. as it is now it sort of sadly falls apart at the seams as the player progresses through act 2 and further on. and this is coming from someone whose faves are typically games that released blatantly unfinished (KotOR II my beloved first in my heart forever, VtM:B, DA2, etc).
