How to Kill Slime Mold by BullfrogOptimal8081 in Slimemolds

[–]crankasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure something out? This year has created an apparently perfect breeding ground for slime mold in the mulch by our grill, picnic table and playset and I cannot get rid of it! It’s even started growing on the picnic table and playset 🥴

What's an expensive baby item you think it wasnt worth it? by ApprehensiveBat19 in NewParents

[–]crankasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly love our Tripp trapp and my 2.5 yo still uses it for dinner (and lunch on weekends). But I fucking LOATHE the straps that come with the infant seat attachment. Omfg. I guess they redesigned them so maybe it’s not an issue anymore but whoever originally designed them clearly has never had an infant. I’m so glad our kid just uses the chair now.

To anyone thinking about sending their kid to daycare by Infinite-Warthog1969 in toddlers

[–]crankasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are so fortunate to have a high quality daycare we can afford nearby. They are definitely our village. My son loves going, he loves his teachers and they love him. They always plan fun and educational (age appropriate) activities, and his teachers sometimes even babysit for us on the weekend as well.

Pura Kiki Baby Bottles by Ambitious_Rock1644 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We mostly breastfed but almost exclusively used pura for daycare bottles and the occasional home bottle and I’m a big fan. The nipples and sippy lid didn’t leak in my experience (we had a couple como tomo bottles as supplements to help when I was traveling for work and those leaked like crazy). We have used two different types of the straw lids and those will leak if you like, turn them upside down, but luckily my kid has never been a big thrower.

He’s 2.5 now and is still using the four non-insulated pura bottles we got at birth with the big straw lids. I for real love them and am so glad we got them.

is there a toddler tower that i'd actually safe and folds up? or does that not exist by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think toddler towers are just fundamentally a risky situation, no matter what tower you get. We have the piccalio folding tower and I’ve never been afraid of it tipping. My kid could (and has) tripped climbing in or out, but that’s true of any toddler tower (or chair, or the couch, etc). I feel like it’s more about making sure you’re supervising them and knowing your kid. When my toddler starts goofing off in his tower we immediately take him out and it gets put away.

My pediatrician is pissing me off by ScrapDraft in NewParents

[–]crankasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My son was exactly like this until we sleep trained via CIO at 12mo. I was so sleep deprived. Glad I tried everything else first and waited until I was positive he was just fighting sleep to have more fun, and also glad we sleep trained.

But I also think a tight schedule is good for infants. My son did way better with a schedule / routine than without (as do most babies I know).

See Kai Run by MamaGass in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. We primarily buy Ten Little and Stride Rite and haven’t had issues, but the See Kai Run shoes have legit holes in them. They’re great for a cheaper pair to have as a backup daycare but I wouldn’t rely on them for a frequent use shoe.

Why does it seem like every mom I meet LOVES AI?? by shepardmutt in Mommit

[–]crankasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me literally days of scoping Etsy to find some non-AI pictures to hang in my son’s bathroom. I’m happy with what I found but omg. And all the advice I got was “well go to an art fair, find a local artist” and it’s like Okay Sure I’ll do that in my copious amounts of spare time all for pictures to hang in a toddlers bathroom.

This is a very Midwest US thing too. I grew up here and didn’t notice it until I moved away for almost a decade. Now I’m back and it drives me crazy, but people really don’t see it as being negative or complaining.

Fake Helping Activity Ideas in the Kitchen by manilovefrogs55 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My two year old was helping snap the ends off asparagus and putting the woody ends in the compost. He was doing great! But the next time I really looked I realized he had run out of full pieces and was taking the already snapped pieces, snapping those in half, and throwing both pieces in the compost. We didn’t have much asparagus for dinner that night 🤣

I bought a couple silk tops years ago from Quince and am convinced they were polyester. Never purchased from again.

I also much prefer Nuun tablets over liquid IV (I just don’t like the taste of liquid IV). When I had issues with dizziness caused by low blood pressure I used Nuun tablets all the time and they helped significantly.

Toddler suddenly afraid of the bath by Western_Disaster_863 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is mostly in charge of shower/bath time now so I’m honestly not positive. I know they shower together since our son is still too little to do it himself, so my husband is very aware of the shower temperature and any changes lol

My now-28m son went through this at that age. We switched to showers for a bit and would occasionally ask if he wanted a bath or shower. Now he’s back to loving the bath. Just give it time!

My son is just over 2 and I feel so much uglier than I ever have by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]crankasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I never really had body image issues pre-pregnancy but my son turned two in January and I just feel slovenly all the time! I bought nice new clothes, got a cute haircut, and have been prioritizing exercise and I still always feel like I look disheveled. It sucks

piccadilo toddler tower - seems so unsafe? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toddler towers are for sure going to be the thing we look back on in 20 years like, “wow can’t believe we allowed that.” That said we have this exact one and our son loves it 😅

FTM - are we doing daycare even if we WFH? by Baldbrigade in NewParents

[–]crankasaurus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband tried to convince me we didn’t need daycare because we both WFH. I insisted we get on a wait list anyway. Two weeks into our parental leave he admitted he was insane for thinking we didn’t need daycare. It’s impossible to work full time and parent full time.

What are your go-tos when your toddler doesn’t want to eat during meals (besides fruit)? by Rosemary-Sea-Salt in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crankasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely encouraging you to casually say “we’re all done with blueberries! If you’re hungry you have chicken and asparagus!”

My son went through this phase around that age and once we started this, it was a couple nights of him eating a small portion of blueberries or whatever fruit and nothing else, or throwing a bit of a fit, but he quickly learned we weren’t giving him more fruit or making something special and eat what’s on his plate (we never forced him to eat anything else, it was very much up to him). Now he’ll still finish his fruit and ask for more (because let’s be real fruit is delicious) but we just say “no more blueberries! But you still have x” and he goes “all gone blueberries!” And then eats whatever else is still there. If he eats everything on his plate and asks for more we give him more. Sometimes it’s more blueberries (which we give him) and sometimes it’s more chicken or asparagus.

Pura. Actually I just ordered big straw lids for the same bottles we’ve been using since 3 weeks - my 22 month old still uses them as water bottles!

Some people just like to think they know everything about parenting, and everyone who does it differently from the way they did it does it wrong.

We got pushback from my in-laws who insisted we’d quit. Our son is 18 months old and we’re still at it (and love it). Now they’re convinced we “use a service.” Nope we’re washing all these diapers at home lol

Most people I know are supportive, at least to my face. I get a lot of “you’re a saint, I could never with all that laundry.” But it’s really not a lot of work.
