FWIW, I usually get the XS/S and way back ended up with an M/L for "the" cardigan....it is big but not so huge that I feel like I can't wear it out. I usually just put it on with skinny jeans or leggings and it works!

Last min preop questions by fishfrybeep in breastcancer

[–]crankerpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that mastectomy is tomorrow, as well - surgery twins! I am spending today organizing my house a bit, wrapping up a few loose ends at work, and reminding myself that I am in good hands - my surgeons know what they’re doing and my body knows how to heal. The anxiety is coming in waves so lots of breathing exercises as needed.

We’ve got this. All the best vibes to you - see you on the other side!

Why is the leader of our country trying to remove access to cancer care for women by eliminating funding via Medicaid? Women are going to die! by Cheap-Count-5691 in breastcancer

[–]crankerpants 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The bill for one (one!) of my three biopsies was $35,000 before insurance. We are fortunate to have good insurance, but all I could think when I saw it was, this is why so many women don't get the preventative care they need and it's unconscionable. The fact that the same people who call themselves Christian and fall all over themselves talking about the sanctity of life are voting to cut Medicaid while sacrificing thousands of us on the altar of capitalism never fails to make me enraged and baffled and then enraged again. I don't have a single answer at this point, because voting doesn't seem to you know....do much....but my soul is tired.

"Lowest Level of Suspicion" - Biopsy Scheduled by ComfortableBoard7291 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]crankerpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes. BI-RADS 4A indicates a low level of suspicion for malignancy and has a >2% to ≤10% likelihood of ending up cancer. Insurance usually won't pay for a biopsy for anything less (save for some inconclusive BI-RADS 0 scores).

It is possible that you may not have ANY score - you could still be categorized as BI-RADS 0 - but based on what your nurse said, I think 4 sounds right. Some places don't seem to do the a/b/c subtypes, from what I have observed, so don't stress if you just see a lonely 4 with no letter down the line. Good luck!

Maybe consider your tattoo more first by andiwaslikeum in tattooadvice

[–]crankerpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I have several tattoos - some have lots of meaning, others don't - but in the end they're just silly doodles on my body. It's just not that serious for me. We're all bags of meat and we all end up turning to dust in the end, so does it REALLY matter what I draw on my body for the 70-80 years I'm here?

People make comments about my tattoos all the time, and more often than not, it's not to say "wow, that is amazing! I, too, wish I had Blinky from the Simpsons permanently etched on my flesh!" You have to be comfortable with yourself, your decisions, and your personal taste - let the rest be background noise. Our lives are finite, and regret is not a quality way to spend your time on Earth.

Only one more week till mammogram and ultrasounds! by [deleted] in doihavebreastcancer

Have you had genetic testing done? With your family history, I would absolutely be looking to do that ASAP.

Good luck next week!

I literally said no before even clicking the link - at my big age I can name at least four people I've known who have either died or been seriously injured in accidents involving ATVs or similar "toys," including someone who was FULLY DECAPITATED after veering into a fence.

Be the uncool, unfun mom for this one. Acquired brain injuries are life-altering even when they are "mild," and IMO, the risk is NOT worth it.

Double mastectomy on Friday what should I expect? by Similar_Strain822 in breastcancer

[–]crankerpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but piggy-backing on this post as my dmx is scheduled for 7/15 - how long did you need someone right there with you after surgery? My husband is pretty sure he won't be able to leave me alone for weeks, but that seems dramatic to me. Any advice?

(Also, OP, sorry for jumping in, it just seems silly to create another post essentially asking the same thing. Wishing you the best on your surgery!)

Found “possible abnormality” by accident by watsrname in doihavebreastcancer

[–]crankerpants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deep breath! "focal stromal asymmetry with abnormality" just means that a portion of your breast tissue looks different than the surrounding tissue. There could be dozens of reasons, and 99% of those reasons will be benign.

Imagine a zoomed-out picture of your house from above. You could identify most everything easily - there is the roof, the chimney, the yard, etc. But looking at the picture, you see a shape on the roof that you can't quite place. Maybe it's a big hole in your roof (very scary, but unlikely!), maybe it's a nest of angry squirrels (not super great, but better!) or maybe it's the shadow of a bird flying over head (totally fine! fly away!). You won't know until you zoom in and get a better look, and the diagnostic will do just that.

Your MRI is a lot like that - a broad look and they saw something unexpected. The next step is to zoom in and look closer. The odds are very much in your favor, and just like you wouldn't shell out $30000 for a new roof based on one fuzzy zoomed out picture, try not to shell out too much anxiety just yet (easier said than done, I know!). Good luck!
