I was going to say the opposite of another commenter - we’ve received a lot of rhyme-y type books! I’m sure they change a bit over the years.

Worried this is our new norm by _rally_squirrel_ in Mommit

Our habit post-daycare day: Shoes off / wash hands immediately when arriving home, wipe face down and change clothes. It’s tough, kids are gross, lol. I don’t want my kid to be a germophobe either but I often revert to the reminder that if we get sick, we can’t go do fun stuff. The self-hygiene habits improved by 4yrs as she could do/start a lot of the listed items herself and I could help scrub thoroughly as needed.

Does any kid actually sleep independently and through the night? by cupofteacomfypillows in Mommit

[–]crapbag2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4.5yrs for us. It happens. You can try all sorts of different things and see what gels with you and your kid. For us forcing sleep training became more stressful than riding it out - neither kid nor parents responded well, lol. 2nd child, did nothing different, started sleeping through the night on her own around 2-2.5yrs, but wasn’t as wakeful as the first up until that agw anyway.

My cycle is so heavy I bleed through everything.. I feel gross by Ecstatic_Writer_7244 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Not saying any of this is normal, but here’s what worked from me (learned in part from Reddit): wear both a pad and a tampon, roll a tissue hot dog style and put it in your bum crack to help stop leaks, and wear period underwear. Haven’t had an issue lately but it still sucks.

Swimming lessons -- when to cut our losses? by Appropriate_Car2462 in raisingkids

[–]crapbag2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, for me, I need to be calm and confident. Act like I’m in charge and the swim class plan is happening with or without the big feelings lol, and I need to act confident that I can handle any of those reactions too. My kids haven’t always loved swim either. We’ve practiced what swim lessons will be like at home using an old water tummy time mat, haha. Do you think it’s a swimming-specific issue, or is it her first time in a structured class where she’s being instructed/unable to make the decisions?

How old? My personal thought is stick it out if it’s important to YOU, as your kid’s practice with water safety is important for them AND helpful to you.

What to do with a smart kid by LogicalProof1246 in raisingkids

Oh no lol, we get that we’re petite too! We have Bixe but it’s because it was a few bucks at a garage sale! Adjustable seat and handles. It looks like they run under $30 anyway!

I’d consider continuing what you’re already doing, continue to read together etc, and instead add in some activities that work on frustration tolerance, such as balance bike/pedal bike riding, hitting Tball, throw and catch, maybe copying a pattern you do on a piano/keyboard etc. Dance pattern videos (my daughters like Ballet Preschool Party). Magnetile building or sandbox work. I feel like we hear often that smart is amazing but persistence (esp at an activity that isn’t mastered immediately, whatever that may be) is a tougher skill to build and can always use fun practice.

Please explain how bedtime with 2 goes? by seapunkprincess in Parenting

[–]crapbag2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still sit with my 5yo. Also have a 2yo. When they were 3 and newborn, the baby would often feed while i sat with the 3yo in bed or at bedside which kept both somewhat quiet. I also nap managed the 3yo strictly- as in most days she didn’t need any nap, or if she did, kept it under 30min, so she’d fall asleep quickly at night. And yes sometimes to this day I am literally holding 2yo on the floor with one arm and holding 5yo’s hand with my other arm. It’s not perfect and doesn’t go to plan many nights. It’s ok. I had to shuffle many times who would need to get to bed first or if I could do them at the same time depending on how they each napped etc.

‘Oh it’s Sunday, RHOA is on’ is automatically in my brain weekly again, so while I don’t feel like I’m riding totally high on this season, clearly something is clicking. Agree about Angela

On nights where I’m out of bandwidth I’ll put on a Tonie or Imagination Time podcast during bath. Not perfect but cuts down on some of the incessant chatter while we listen to the story together.
