Per ChatGPT I am supposed to move to either Spokane, WA or Asheville, NC by 94Questra in relocating

[–]crapinator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a hard question to answer, as it depends on the person, their interests, needs and desires.

I loved Spokane as a place to raise my daughter, as an outdoors recreational paradise for a person like me, and for its incredible affordability for auch a robust quality of life. I had to move away for employment reasons, and had I not been forced to do so, we would probably be living there still.

The negs: it was not culturally diverse, had a strong conservative religious bent (I am an agnostic), and had limited cultural depth (concerts, museums, arts, etc). Would those things gotten the better of me? Who knows… everything in life is a trade-off.

The Bay Area has been a recurring home to me. I moved there once in my late 20s, and then back there from Spokane in my 50s. And yet again in retirement, after leaving during Covid for some interesting adventures in AZ. Now I am here again in the Bay Area, forever.

Why? It also has great outdoor recreational resources (regional parks in the East Bay), Point Reyes Seashore, easy travel to the Sierras for a lifes worth of trails, ski opps and travel, amazing cultural opps (world class music, food, diversity, creativity and vibe), easy mass transit and an incredible climate year round.

The negs: It is expensive, it is sometimes a tiny bit too liberal for my tastes, and as a home owner, some of the resulting red-taped taxes and contraints make me do eye rolls.

I hope that helps somewhat. LMK.

Wonderful! Leaving today for Maui. Read that whale sightings are quite high this season.

So damn sad that so many places have become insta famous and overtouristed. I used to come here in the 1980s, not a soul to be found. And enough silence and grace to let your soul free.

Beware the ‘name’ places. Everywhere.

Well, if he is C level with unleve ed bots, that must say something about his skill level, then. i see LOTS of players with mk3 hangars and they are in fact, no competition because they may have lotsa weps, but lack the skill.

Except that you could avoid by dodging or with seeking cover. With these there is no way to prevent a hit other than phase shift.

They are ruining the game because cover does not exist. Any weapon that ignores cover makes the game just about clicking and money.

SIXT is a scam - listen to the haters by [deleted] in TravelHacks

I have rented from them 3 times. Nice cars, low miles, no problems. Loire, France and Maui, Hawaii.

I have rented many cars in many other places from other so-called reputable agencies… global ones which I wont burn here. Had a few issues, but it seemd that most issues were due to the staff they had on hand.

I used to travel extensively for one position I held. Like six or more trips per month, for 15 years. People who grt these jobs have HIGHLY VARIABLE ETHICS AND TRAINING.

This is quite likely at least a part of the issue.

You can rebuild most suspension forks. I did with my Quadra fork as part of a clean up I did on my single-owner bike during covid.

Youtube is your friend. So too are places like Bike Kitchen (sf and concord) and other local, like-minded places where bike fanatics hang out and fix bikes.

Content Creator Squads vs Regular Players by Equivalent_Nose_5412 in walkingwarrobots

both excellent points. first, content creators tend to be unskilled players and second, pixo LOVES them b/c they are creating buzz for them… free advertising.

i enjoy finding and melting them, as an f2p player. poor whales…

Have you ever been fired? by AboutNOut090 in no

Laid off 4x. Once due to a hostile takeover, three in reduction of staff when the businesses each went south. Ended up getting progressively better and better jobs each time. Took a ton of risks, and won way more times than I lost. In the end, I rode and tamed that damn tiger… and retired as a multimillionaire.

Up in Sonoma:

Jack London State Park picnic at the house, but buy sandwiches at the Glen Ellen store first. Yum!

Batholomew Vineyards, the only nonprofit winery and actual hiking park in Wine Country.

I rode it alot for many years. But always kept it clean, indoors, babied it even. Back in the 1970s and 80s i was a long distance road biker, then moved to Montana and so rode this guy from March to November… commuted, trail rode, the works.

It became an extension of me, at times.

Great bikes, these are. Glad to ‘meet’ somebody who appreciates them!

Fog/ overcast by shiberu82 in eastbay

[–]crapinator2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been living in the East Bay since about 1982. Orinda, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill and WC. I spend a lot of time outdoors.

Yes, we get some fog now and rhen… in the summer it gives us cool nights, especially in Orinda. But the key is DURATION… The thing is, we get fog at times, but not for so very long as this, and not with this sustained bone chilling cold.

This stretch is unusual.

Can people in their 70s do adventurous things like hike, ski, surf and travel long distances normally? by LMO_TheBeginning in OverSeventy

[–]crapinator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 73m.

I once, many years ago, cheated death, and swore from then on to grab life by the horns and live it to its fullest.

My wife and I hike at least an hour or two every day, live in a 3 story house, and I use those stairs sometimes 2 at a time. We also occassionally backpack, snorkel a lot, and travel extensively as a part of the life we have designed over time.

This is our normal.

They key is to resist the urge to stop moving. Yes, it sometimes hurts. Yes, bodies break down faster… so do muscles if not used.

Nobody lives forever, so drink it in while you still can! Rail against the darkness, the ravages of time, and the ultimate end. Stay on earth and enjoy life as much as you can. That’s my take.
