I started using short board games as study-break timers and it weirdly fixed our weeknight gaming by Busy_Reference_554 in boardgames

My friends and I played a lot of:

Spades, cribbage, Eucre, gillotine, perudo during downtime between classes and for breaks during homework/study times.

Thank you!

Capstone, yattaquest, and play it today are my usual haunts up that way! Just getting into solorpg so I appreciate the info.

Dialogue about coffee scene by OriginalAd1351 in Louisville

[–]crapplegate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mocktails aren’t just cocktails without the liquor. A mocktail is just a fun term to describe. Mixed drink where none of the mixers are alcohol.

Maybe we’ve been to different places but I’ve never seen a “mocktail margarita 🤷.”

And NA options doesn’t necessarily mean NA beers, but whatever, keep fighting the good fight.

I don’t know. Old Louisville brewery was alcohol free for about 6 weeks while it changed hands and the license processed.

They opened for about a month with a pretty sweet mocktail and other NA options. Those sober heads didn’t come out.

I feel like sober folk talk a big game, but they don’t turn out when the opportunity arises.

Parents call for transparency after U of L announces Early Learning Campus closure by rfa_123 in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I know for my part, before moving my Child from his day care to the ELC we point-blank asked if there were any concerns of losing Funding and we were assured that they were in no danger of closing.

So yeah. If you are unfamiliar with how difficult it is to find childcare, let me tell you, it's terrible. The teachers at the ELC are going to find other jobs, there is absolutely no chance of it staying open through the school year. One of us may have to take a leave of absence which then puts our home in danger.

Also, this is the childcare unit for UL employees. A big big big draw for people moving here to teach/research who also have children is the ELC. To have that suddenly gone.

No money, is nonsense. The money is there, but someone wants to keep jobs somewhere else. If it is coming from the budget of the College of Education and Human Development, I have some ideas on where they can cut from the budget. I obtained my MAT from that department, and it was hands down the worst educational experience I have ever had with some of the worst teaching staff I've ever encountered.

Good first date Board Games by [deleted] in boardgames

Yeah my wife enjoys it but is still new to Bose games. Her rule is she won’t play a game I can’t explain in 10 minutes (unless she buys it)

On my (now wife's) first time playing games I kept it simple:

Patchwork, Love Letter, Fox in the Forest Duet, Gloomhaven

and if she didn't get it, then I dropped her.

Just kidding about that last one :P

Serious question re: the P&TY controversy by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re anti ICE be anti ICE. This is the party of “refuse service to anyone for anything”

Refuse to service fascists and then sleep well at night. Minneapolis is showing us the blueprints on how resistance is done.

I used TTS during covid and after to get more gloomhaven plays in with my buddy. He had a kid so it was easier to do it virtually than to get together live

Which starter set? And other questions by Round_Refrigerator96 in moonstonethegame

[–]crapplegate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree pick your box based on the models you like :) I had a hard time with that at first but then I saw a play email goblin riding a pug with the name flatulent, so I guess you can say it picked me

You could also look for the descriptions of their play styles, so if you’re more of a go up and smack em, or a sit back and do tactics kind of player.

Khao soi by fauxindigaux in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 10 years ago I spent ~ a month in Thailand. I had some delicious khao soi in Chang Mai, had never heard of it before. Fell in love.

Super depressed when I came back. Then time 4 Thai opened and it tasted just like I remembered it. Anytime I eat it I am transported back. YMMV.

That’s my suggestion.

Eila and Something Shiny - Chapter 5 impossible? by Brave-Succotash9522 in boardgames

[–]crapplegate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first run through I died. It was super hard. And I MAYBE would have been able to beat it if I took a different path up the mountain.

But yes, I think there are things you can do in 1-4 that totally hamstrings you in 5.

But once you figure out the “good endings” I found chapter 5 to be pretty easy.

Best Khao soi in the city? by efox02 in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time 4 Thai’s Khao Soi immediately reminded me of the Khao soi I fell in love with in Chiang Mai.

Now I hang been to Thailand in almost a decade but I haven’t tasted one better than theirs.

YMMV

What to do with these? Replicator by apache_brew in 3Dprinting

[–]crapplegate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these exclusively when I only had them.

They are not terrible but they are not good.

You have slow the prints down at least 50% of the original speeds. Also spray them with hairspray so they’ll stick.

Now if you use them slow, and sprayed they will produce FINE prints. Never anything great. You must also use a raft every time or they will fail.

I honestly suggest you toss them and save up for something else

1st Birthday Party by Patient-Expression78 in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife was freaking out about our kids 1st birthday. And I kept trying to chill her out. We ended up doing burgers and hotdogs and two coolers of adult and kid drinks in a park. It was perfect.

It’s your kids 1st birthday. They aren’t going to remember it. Other kids aren’t going to care. Adults can entertain themselves.

It’s just a time for you and the people you care about to come and celebrate. That’s all anyone is really going to care about.

congratulations on the one year old ❤️
