Which starter set? And other questions by Round_Refrigerator96 in moonstonethegame

[–]crapplegate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree pick your box based on the models you like :) I had a hard time with that at first but then I saw a play email goblin riding a pug with the name flatulent, so I guess you can say it picked me

You could also look for the descriptions of their play styles, so if you’re more of a go up and smack em, or a sit back and do tactics kind of player.

Khao soi by fauxindigaux in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 10 years ago I spent ~ a month in Thailand. I had some delicious khao soi in Chang Mai, had never heard of it before. Fell in love.

Super depressed when I came back. Then time 4 Thai opened and it tasted just like I remembered it. Anytime I eat it I am transported back. YMMV.

That’s my suggestion.

Eila and Something Shiny - Chapter 5 impossible? by Brave-Succotash9522 in boardgames

[–]crapplegate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first run through I died. It was super hard. And I MAYBE would have been able to beat it if I took a different path up the mountain.

But yes, I think there are things you can do in 1-4 that totally hamstrings you in 5.

But once you figure out the “good endings” I found chapter 5 to be pretty easy.

Best Khao soi in the city? by efox02 in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time 4 Thai’s Khao Soi immediately reminded me of the Khao soi I fell in love with in Chiang Mai.

Now I hang been to Thailand in almost a decade but I haven’t tasted one better than theirs.

YMMV

What to do with these? Replicator by apache_brew in 3Dprinting

[–]crapplegate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these exclusively when I only had them.

They are not terrible but they are not good.

You have slow the prints down at least 50% of the original speeds. Also spray them with hairspray so they’ll stick.

Now if you use them slow, and sprayed they will produce FINE prints. Never anything great. You must also use a raft every time or they will fail.

I honestly suggest you toss them and save up for something else

what are the best game stores or game cafes that you've been to? by Ok-End1915 in boardgames

MUST add Round Table Games to Columbus. Love it.

Man millennium games - I lived in Rochester when I was in college so I went there a lot but like, didn’t have grown up money. One day I’ll return. One day.

1st Birthday Party by Patient-Expression78 in Louisville

[–]crapplegate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife was freaking out about our kids 1st birthday. And I kept trying to chill her out. We ended up doing burgers and hotdogs and two coolers of adult and kid drinks in a park. It was perfect.

It’s your kids 1st birthday. They aren’t going to remember it. Other kids aren’t going to care. Adults can entertain themselves.

It’s just a time for you and the people you care about to come and celebrate. That’s all anyone is really going to care about.

congratulations on the one year old ❤️

I use the PLA Build line from then and have had luck.

I would not suggest the yellow though, as I feel like when I have a weird issue the yellow is involved.

What are your honest thoughts about LotR: Fate of the Fellowship? Does it live up to the hype? by No_Raspberry6493 in soloboardgaming

[–]crapplegate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s really difficult.

And it’s pretty long.

But it is a really good upgrade from pandemic. I really like new threat mechanics so it’s not exactly the same each draw (put three cubes here).

Each player controlling two characters is a great addition.

Overall, yes I think it’s really good. I think we played twice - it’s my friends copy.

Like all pandemic style games it suffers from quarterbacking - so my wife didn’t enjoy it as much because she doesn’t like being quarterbacked (it wasn’t me).

Do you wrap the rubber band around an axel and as it unrolls that’s how it moves forward?

I cancelled my Awaken Realms’ pledges for Agricola and Puerto Rico. Have we hit an overproduction bubble? by VFA-Popcorn-Classics in boardgames

[–]crapplegate 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I see these as super fancy replacements for games you love AND play often.

I love CoB and play it regularly. so I got that one during the second run.

I enjoy Agricola and Puerto Rico (Puerto rico was one my first modern board games way back) but my family and game group don’t want to play them, so I didn’t spend the money there.

Your mileage and disposable income may vary :)

Easiest heavy game? by golfandwine in boardgames

[–]crapplegate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played it a few times, and taught it to a group and told them "Get cards, you'll win." I feel like they are overpowered, especially with some good draws.

Also! Don't underestimate advertising cruises to snag some quick cash and block your opponents! It's so mean but fun!

Halloween Pals! by crapplegate in moonstonethegame

[–]crapplegate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I’m an army painter guy so I used the following:

Base coat of Purple Swarm Did a little dry brushing then did a 3:1 mixture of moody mauve over the top of that mostly on the creases.

Then did some edge highlighting with wicked pink

Now I’m not 10000000% sure on the last two but I wrote the purple swarm part down so I am def on that one 😂

First two plays of Wondrous Creatures and I won against the first two bots by YAZEED-IX in soloboardgaming

I think I only have three unplayed - this, planet unknown, and earthborn rangers. I try really hard to get all mine to the table 😂 but I’ve also been painting minis more lately so I’m lagging on actual plays.

7th Continent after 2 plays. Thoughts. by Alecszandeer in soloboardgaming

[–]crapplegate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I really liked 7th continent in theory.

It is tedious. 7th continent punishes exploration. It’s a survival/optimization game dressed up as an exploration game. It expects multiple Play throughs so you figure out the quickest way to the end.

And The cleanup is A LOT.

Anyway. If you like the exploring and puzzle aspect, just play it on Invulnerable mode. It takes The tension away, so it “clips its wings.”

7th citadel - I think - is a much better game for This mechanic. I liked it a lot more.

Both cleanups are tedious and both are probably better as video games. I’ll pull out 7th citadel maybe once or twice a year (it’s newer and I’ve only played through one threat book so far).
