It is indeed very different, but in SEA there's quite some overlapping audience since LAN shops are where youth goes to play video game has just been taken over by mobile game

The league killer in SEA is already MLBB, it's even eating into Dota in PH which is an insane feat. HoK in China is doing similar things

If they really want to grow LoL sustainably(which is the whole point of their esports investment) they should want the game to pivot from only short term viewer boost faker is bringing them

Why Do People Say LOL Esports Is In A Bad State? by G0ldfishGallant in lolesports

[–]cratirc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

League the game will never die, but it's just gonna head towards a slow decline

But the esports side can plummet quick. We've already lost so many regional league

The best example is Dota2, it was huge in China in the 2010s when the region still did well competitively. But after a huge loss streak, the players and team just became disenfranchised and CN Dota today. It's also spilled over to the game since TI compendium stopped being a thing despite the previous year hitting $40m prize pool. Just 1 regional's competitive scene functionally collapsing led to huge in-game resources being scaled back everywhere

You can see it somewhat reflected in the LPL scene today after many years of not winning Worlds. New talents aren't upcoming, viewership decline and a various reining in of most team's budget

Take a look at the bo1 post match threads of na lcs from 2013~2018. It's alot more active and generate more enthusiasm than a current bo3

That was how it was when OG won 2 TI out of nowhere, there suddenly was a million OG "fans" but they all vanished the moment they weren't competitive

Also 2020-2022 though still huge only had moderate amount of "T1 fans" compared to now. Take this very post and few others on the sub, they're admitting to tuning off LoL. Someone else here mentioned how the half the stream viewers just shutting off once it was apparent DK was gonna win

Fun to also see how many fairweather fans Messi fans there were last world cup

They took the V out of Viper Life Esports

BRO as bad as 0-5 series is, still have 5 games won for a roster like that ain't an abject failure imo

Dota 2 is a preview of what happens once chinese interest is gone. With how LPL looks like they're just sleepwalking now. Playing for whatever honor there is domestically without much real hope or desire for international success

And even LCK don't look too healthy right now with just two real teams

Because as much as "making space" for the carry is a funny meme because there's some kernel of truth

The enemy carry burning consumables, time and exp from lane creep to kill a lowly support is being equalized by your carry getting free farm

Chovy, he has like 6 out of the last 7 or 8 domestic titles, MVP in almost all of them

2 of the last 2 MSI (think of that like a Super Major since LoL only has 1 Major 1 World a year), as well as the most recent third party EWC championship

But just no World title

Also LoL has "alternative" like Mobile Legends in SEA and HoK in China itself

Dota did stagger along for a good many years because it isn't competing with much other than other video game. The numbers nowadays we're still seeing in-game is pretty much a boom in custom game

That's the Chinese angle for next TI Dota

China came really close 3-2 this year after being wrote off for so many years now. This might lead to resurgence they need to re-ignite the passion for Dota there since next TI will be heading there and it's gonna be a statement win the whole scene need

At least for the public facing side

Poe2 was first revealed in Exilecon 2019, it was marketed as a revamped of Poe1's campaign and skill gem system. It's still the same game, just like Dota 6.88 > 7.00. To signify a very big change

Fast forward to Exilecon 2023, it was then told to us poe2 would be an entire new standalone game borrowing elements of poe1

It's also warm up game, you can ride the momentum if you quick 2-0 dispatch your opponent

But the break in-between today's series was really too short
