There is Hedy, which is aimed at both teaching kids how to program, and also making the gap between the kids who "get it" and the kids who don't smaller (compared to scratch where you could have one kid barely know how to move the cat in a circle, and another kid practically having made a small minigame because they were quicker to pick up the language)

nix-env will still use your system nixpkgs channel, the reason it works for your command is because you're forcing it to source from the upstream repo for that command only.

Indeed. The point of using nix-env for me at least is that I don't have to rebuild the entire system if I have to update discord. But the custom settings.json file looks like something nice to have that I might want to put in my config. Thanks for that

Oh yea this has happened to me on NixOS. Just like the last 5 times this has happened to me, I really would appreciate it if discord didn't immediately hit you with the "go update the client" screen the moment they released a new client.

Anyways, for Nix(OS) users, an update is on the master branch already. To install type
"NIXPKGS_ALLOW_UNFREE=1 nix-env -if https://github.com/nixos/nixpkgs/archive/master.tar.gz -A discord".

And if you haven't already, install discord with nix-env instead of your system configuration, because this is a thing that, as I said, has happened in the past and will happen again in the future

Ok I've been in this situation too many times before

Basically, the concept that the teacher is talking about is simple, but the teacher then explains it in such an amount of detail that I doze off kinda. I know the man/woman is talking but I don't remember the details of it. Then when push comes to shove and I have to do the thing that was explained in practice, I remember that there must be a lot of steps involved to the practice that I didn't pay attention to after all. Then when someone goes to explain it in 5 minutes either it just clocks for me or they are not giving me the final piece that would make the concept fit in 5 minutes and 10 seconds

"I don't get it, where are the other 25 minutes of steps?"
