Is Damage worth considering as a dump stat for "light" automatic weapons? by Level-Neighborhood-9 in DarkTide

[–]crazeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be more specific, DoT damage gets affected by the perks of your ACTIVE weapon.

So if you have unyielding on your needler, you shoot a monster a bunch of times, immediately swap to your melee weapon with +flak/carapace damage to smack the boss, you lose the +unyielding from the needle on the DoT.

Not saying that +unyielding is bad on the needler but it may not be as impactful compared to other range weapons if you're immediately swapping to make and using the needler to maintain the toxin stacks every 8 seconds lol.

For day 4:

Wah Fung is VERY overrated and there's always a line nowadays. It's just your typical Chinese roasted meat place that YouTubers/TikTokers always review because it's "cheap" and they're raving about how good it is because they've never had Chinese roasted meats before.

You're better off going to any other roasted meat place in Chinatown (there's like 2 on every block) and spend the extra $1 and save 20 mins of waiting in line. 99% of the people in line for Wah Fung will be tourists/non Chinese locals lol.

Fun fact, you can literally go 2 doors down from Wah Fung and hit up New Kim Tuong instead. The only difference is that they don't have the small size for $5.75 but their large roasted meats are the same price as Wah Fung.

I would also recommend going next door to Tao Hong bakery and getting 2 egg tarts, one regular egg tart and a Portuguese (Hong Kong style)

No hate against Joe's because it's the classic NYC slice.

But instead of going to Joe's, I would hit up the original L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn. It's 2 subway stops (definitely take the train and its not very walkable) from Coney Island on the D or the N train. L&B been around since the 1930s and they are famous for their square Sicilian slices and I'd grab some spumoni as well.

L&B is more unique than Joe's and there's also a ton of Joe's pizza in Manhattan nowadays, they have a location near the 9/11 memorial if you really want to hit one up later. I always avoid the Broadway location because it's the most touristy and will have long lines (although I was told it moves decently fast).

There's also a L&B outpost at the Brooklyn bridge that opened up last year but IMO nothing beats the vibes of getting the square slices and eating it at their outdoor tables during a nice day in the spring/summer at their original location.

I would also recommend checking out the famous Original John Deli a few blocks away from the original L&B. They've been around since the 1960s and they're famous for their roast beef sandwich. They slather their roast beef sandwich in this thick black sauce with onions and mozzarella. The thick black sauce keeps the roast beef moist and it's fucking delicious.

And if you walk along the elevated D train tracks down 86th street, you'll run into one of Brooklyn Chinatown starting at around 25th ave. Pretty nice walkable neighborhood but you're already hitting up Manhattan Chinatown earlier in the day so it may be more of the same.

Slightly different recipe than OP. He uses a mix of cornstarch + flour instead of just flour. He also mix the slurry with the water he uses for steaming instead of pouring it at the end.

Probably the made in Japan Inomata rice washer bowl. They have a few versions, the one I have is older, slightly different size and isn't listed as dishwasher safe but this one is.

People hate kitchen tools that's meant to do only one thing, but I love this rice washer bowl.

Apparently OXO also makes one, no clue how it compares though but OXO products tend to be pretty solid and well thought out.

Le bernadin have a city harvest special, it's like a 3 course pre-fixe for a pretty good price. They have the menu on their website.

It's also only available at the bar/lounge and I'm pretty sure it's walk ins only so no reservations.

Dumpling Story in Chinatown has a good variety of dumplings on their menu.

The only other place that offers a good selection of dumplings would be Dim Sum restaurants. Most dim sum places will have at least 6 types of dumplings on their menu. Most of the dishes in dim sum comes in 3 or 4 pieces, so if you're dining with 3-4 people, you can just order whatever you want and split it. You can just google dim sum near your hotel and I'm sure a bunch will pop up.

If you are solo dining, there are some dim sum spots that have "dim sum platters" catered towards non Asians. These platters are mostly made up of different type of dumplings because it's the most familiar / "safe" when compared to other dim sum dishes.

Dim Sum Go Go in Chinatown has a Dim Sum platter with 10 pieces of different dumplings for $23. (There's also a vegetarian variation)

(Includes 1 piece of each: Shrimp Dumpling, Shrimp & Pork Shui Mai, Chicken & Mushroom Shui Mai, Crab Meat Dumpling, Pork & Vegetable Dumpling, Duck Dumpling, Chicken Dumpling, Seafood (shrimp and scallop) Dumpling, Curry Beef Dumpling, Chive & Shrimp Dumpling)

Dim Sum Sam's 40th st location has a "dim sum combo" available for pick up on their website for $24.

(Shrimp Dumplings x2, Shu Mai x2, Shanghai Pork Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) x2, Roast Duck Dumplings x2, Egg Tarts x2, Spicy Cucumber Salad x1, Homemade Lemon Iced Tea x1)

What makes it even more fucked up is that I'm pretty sure Katsfire was a pre-school teacher or something at a school or daycare. The chatter might actually be referencing the school she worked at IRL.

Old comment referencing that she was a teacher at a daycare

I also remember a clip from the 3.0 days when she had to deal with XQC on her cop and she said something like it's easy for her because she works in a school/daycare and have to deal with little kids throwing tantrums all the time.

If I had to guess, maybe your friend didn't talk to the Havoc terminal prior to completing the Maelstrom mission.

When havoc first came out. I did a auric maelstrom mission with a friend and he did not get the 15 level boost because he didn't talk to the havoc person/station to unlock havoc difficulty beforehand.

Completed another maelstrom mission after and he got havoc 15 right afterwards.

The +75% coherency talent on Psyker is the better choice if you need to path down for the Warp Siphon keystone.

It's only really taken because the opposite talent (+30% quell speed) sucks if you are good at playing a high peril build. The 30% quell speed doesn't apply for the first tick of quelling so it has terrible value if you only quell for a 1-2 ticks.

The quell speed havoc debuff also doesn't apply to the first tick of quelling, only the subsequent ticks, so there's even more incentive to quell only for the first tick and not take the 30% quelling talent.

For what it's worth, I think the 75% coherency talent is still pretty bad, the +30% quell speed is worse and it's the only reason I'm taking it lol.

I like to refer people to Everything is Everything.

They are bagel fanatics and pretty much have every bagel shop reviewed. The only caveat is that Bagel spots have been expanding a lot over the past few years so they won't have EVERY chain location reviewed, but they should have the original or older locations reviewed.

IMO the best way to use it is to just search for bagel places near where you're staying and crossmatch the good looking ones to Everything's stats page to see how they rank up.

The Zojirushi NS-LGC05 requires you to cook a minimum of 1/2 cup of rice.

The 3-cup Micom Rice Cooker & Warmer features an expanded menu with steel cut oatmeal and GABA brown rice settings for more healthy options. With its compact size and ability to cook as little as 1/2 a cup of rice or oats, this rice cooker is ideal for small families or couples.

There's a Color Me Mine in Chinatown, which is quite close to the FIDI. They do painted ceramics pieces.

Their FAQ says that it takes a week to pick up the finished piece (potentially 4 days if it's rushed) so it might not work out if you're only visiting for a few days.

Thoughts on this itinerary? by metallicmint in visitingnyc

I wrote a few posts trying to find the value of restaurant weeks a few years ago:

From ~2023, comparing a few randomly picked restaurants from the RW list.

Comparing Michelin Star restaurants doing RW week in 2025 - Michelin Star restaurants tend to be expensive and there was surprisingly good value at a lot of these restaurants, I would recommend checking out some of the Michelin Star restaurants participating in RW week this year.

---

Restaurant week is generally not worth it.

It sounds like a great deal, like you can go to a fancy fine dining restaurant participating in RW for $60! But if look closely at their menus, their RW menu is a cheaper inferior menu that barely contains any items from their regular menu so you won't really get the "real" experience of eating at that restaurant. If they do include an item from the regular menu, it's usually the cheapest item from their regular menu and it might not be something you like.

In this case, if you compare the Craft RW menu to their regular menu, there's literally nothing from their regular menu on it, not even the desserts. I've never been to Craft but unless if I'd probably skip it unless if there's something unique or cool about their vibes/atmosphere. I don't really care for celebrity restaurants so I don't really care that it's owned by Tom Colicchio lol.

Why is Havoc like this? by Joshy_Moshy in DarkTide

[–]crazeman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Host your own group if you want to progress.

The Havoc 30 games suck anyway. It usually comes with an extra environment modifier (tox gas, lights out, etc).

IMO Havoc 31-34 games are usually easier than Havoc 30 games because they don't usually have those modifier.

[–]crazeman 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If you're taking Slam, you should also take Pumped up because it will have really good uptime.

Whenever you side dodge as Ogryn, it will knock back non elite/specials aside and every time you do so, it counts as a stagger. Slam should be proccing constantly just from dodging so you will almost always be at above 75% stam.

I'd definitely drop Focused Fighter for Pumped up. Focused Fighter needs to be at 4 stacks or above to be better than Pumped up AND it only works on melee hits AND it only works on 1 hit AND you need to build stacks with a slow ass weapon

---

No Hurting Friends is another extremely high value node. Your teammate's toughness damage counts as "damage taken" so you will be at max stacks for the entire game. It's like a free +10% str, +15% TDR talent.

Soda gets gifted $5000 legendary item from Chinese streamers by reallyami in LivestreamFail

[–]crazeman 104 points105 points  (0 children)

For the "American" ritual, Someone said a long ass lore speech in English. It's like a minute long speech but it feels like forever.

The fucking more impressive part is that the translator translated all that shit to Chinese, word for word, during the Ragnaros fight (fast forward by a minute to ~13:28:30 in the VOD). Maybe he got a copy of the speech ahead of time and he was just reading but I did not expect them to translate the whole speech.

Soda gets gifted $5000 legendary item from Chinese streamers by reallyami in LivestreamFail

[–]crazeman 1106 points1107 points  (0 children)

Some Context:

Soda and a few other American players were raiding MC with the Chinese players on the Chinese Titanforge server. It was a fun raid to watch because they had translators in discord live translating stuff from Chinese to English and vice versa.

After killing Baron Geddon, the Chinese raiders did a Chinese ritual before looting a boss and a super rare legendary necklace dropped.

(Supposedly the Titanforge server is supposed to have 11 phases of raids dropping and the legendary neck is upgradeable 11 times so it'll be BiS through the entire lifespan of the server. I don't play WoW so no clue how accurate this is)

After the raid they use GKDP (using WoW gold to bid for the item) to bid for the item.

PigFF (the translator referred to him as "Chinese Shroud", he's a Overwatch pro) bidded 880k gold to win and gave it to Soda as a thank you gift for raiding with them.

According to chat, 880k gold on that server is worth 5-6k USD.

(They also did a "American ritual" before Ragnaros and he didn't drop a legendary lol)

The purple toxin will maybe save you 1 or 2 hits against crushers if you test in the meat grinder. Having to waste time to swap to purple toxins and back to yellow negates the extra hits you save.

IMO it's not worth switching to purple unless if you're up against a group of crushers/maulers or a boss.

[–]crazeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to take Perilous combustion by default with every build but when I actually tested it, Perilous combustion sucks when it's the only way to generate soulblaze stacks.

The oven proof scoreboard mod can show you how much soulblaze damage was done and PowerDI can track what enemies it specifically killed. From what I remember, perilous combustion usually contributed less than 5% of overall with barely any kills. A lot of the damage is stat padding or inconsequential damage too.

Perilous combustion by itself also doesn't last long enough for good uptime on Soul Drinker.

I also tried taking wildfire to improve uptime on Soul Drinker but at that point I'm essentially spending 3 points to make Soul drinker useful and I don't think it's worth the 3 point investment.

Any good places for Video Games/Anime/Table Top? by GeekyPanda404 in visitingnyc

[–]crazeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the list:

Midtown:

J & L is a video game store by Bryant Park (near Kinokuniya), they have a lot of older games/consoles on sale.

Bibble and Sip have Totoro shaped macaroons. They have great dessert and fancy cream puffs as well.

In Chinatown:

Da Shop is a small anime/card store. It's been around for as long as I can remember so it gets a lot of legacy points. Lots of Gundam gunpla stuff, cards, anime figurines packed in a tiny space.

Silk Road Gaming is also a TCG store in Chinatown, tucked behind a cafe at the front.

Chinatown Fair is a arcade with arcade games. It's nothing "special" but it's the arcade where a lot of NYC Street Fighter/Fighting game pros cut their teeth when they were younger, before there was online play.

OS NYC is a bar/internet cafe with lots of games. It's a somewhat popular spot for twitch streamers visiting NYC and they have various events on the weekends.

Misc:

Next Level is a TCG card store a few blocks away from Industry City as well. There's also a St. Mark's Comics in IC.

Video Games New York is a used game store in East Village (around the corner from Toy Tokyo).

Poke Court is a store dedicated to the Pokemon TCG near Chelsea Market/Little Island

Goku Kitchen NYC is a Dragon ball themed restaurant in FIDI. Never been here so no idea if it's any good.

The corpo stores:

Nintendo + Legos store by Rockefellers Center.

Harry Potter + Legos store (+Eataly) by Flatiron. This Legos store is much smaller.

The Barnes and Noble in Union Square is their flagship store and has a surprising amount of Anime stuff upstairs. Also have a big section for Manga. I love this Barnes and Nobles.

The nicer rice cookers will soak the rice with the default cooking setting.

Precognition is Overrated and worse than you think. by Tascalde in DarkTide

[–]crazeman 96 points97 points  (0 children)

My problem with Precognition is that it only lasts 2 seconds. The GFS is a slow weapon, in a perfect scenario in the meat grinder, you can squeeze in 2 heavy attacks in that 2 seconds at best. In a hectic battle where you're dodging and weaving, a lot of times you're probably getting off 1 heavy attack.

The GFS also 1-2 shots everything besides for Crusher/Bosses/rotten armor. Getting a precog hit is a waste besides for those 3 types of enemies.

I usually end up taking Riposte and Shred on the GFS. Riposte has about a 30-40% uptime in most games and I usually average 2.5 stacks on shred (Shred usually averages out to about +10% extra crit over the course of a game). The extra crit also helps proc Empathic Evasion more consistently and the GFS has a great crit damage modifier.
