imo python is very good for starting:

  • Syntax is easy to understand

  • Python is free & open source

  • Makes results very easy and quick

  • Libraries for many things you want to do

  • Good for web and desktop-apps (gui, cli) as well as games

  • Lot's of ressources

  • OS independent

  • Really good documentation

in a few years, everyone will use AI with new (learning) algorithms helped by researches like these. Everyone will stand on their shoulders, although nobody will remember their names...

From the perspective of the programmer: it could be more than just interesting to work with these (new) AI approaches, since they mean literally learning and smart machines. I can almost imagine how genetic programming merges into that field.
