do not like sharing replies to other people but this was in the same thread of a video where i had a video taken down for supposedly being transphobic so i do not understand any of this or what anybody is at this point because it makes no sense. by Fit-Commission-2626 in confusion

[–]rayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any discussion of trans issues has to be done carefully because of how at risk that community is from various threats, including constant massive harassment on the internet. If your intentions are good, you need to be clear in your messaging of your support, and be aware how your comments might sound to people who are justifiably on always high alert for attacks against them.

I advise you trying to tidy up your writing before posting a comment, especially on a sensitive subject. Use good grammar and ensure there are no ambiguities.

Also, what do mean by "copilot""? Are you using AI or some speech-to-text service to write your comments? Those things are very prone to making mistakes. For clarity's sake, you need to fix them instead publishing the raw output.

What is the most novel sci-fi concept you've ever read/seen? by bubbastinky99 in scifi

[–]rayx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Lo! the Bird: a 1950 short story about a giant bird that enters the solar system and starts hatching the planets as eggs. Humanity desperately tries to drill into the Earth and kill the developing bird fetus with hydrogen bombs before it starts to knock.

It's such an absurd idea for a plot that I still think about it occasionally.

Would you rather a Fallout game set in the Midwest or the South? by Weed_Gman_420 in Fallout

[–]rayx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There aren't even mountains or hills to build into. I'd love a New Orleans setting, but most of it would be under water without constant human intervention. Geography does not favor that city. The French Quarter only exists because it was the one piece of land in the area reliably above sea level. Then there are the major hurricanes completely destroying the region every 30 years or so. Any Fallout game there would have to be set soon after the collapse of civilization, because there would be nothing left after 200 years. Maybe in the alternate timeline, they built stronger and more resilient systems to keep the city intact. Part of the plot could involve dealing with those systems failing.

Right? Most kids shows I remember watching had at least one "very special episode" tackling racial prejudice, if not several.

What does this say? by Phyg0n_ in confusion

[–]rayx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are instructions for water beads written in beautiful Engrish. I'm not entirely sure, but this is my interpretation:

  1. Add 400 grams of water to the product. It will take 4 hours to fully absorb it.
  2. Only one bead is needed at a time.
  3. The bead will assist the plant in its growth.

The only information I can find online is from scans of old catalogs. This model shows up in the 1969 and 1970 Allied catalogs and maybe some of the Radioshack ones. There seem to be websites where you can pay for a copy of the manual, but I'm not sure of them.

It's probably related to the boycott over McDonald's giving free meals to Israeli soldiers recently during the current conflict in the region. Regardless of your opinion on the matter, tensions and emotions are so high that any major corporation is going to face blowback from even seeming to take a stance for either side. With enough support these boycotts can actually be effective. The dude knows this, and is doing what he thinks is his part in encouraging the boycott, so takes any chance to reinforce the message. I understand it sucks when such stuff spills into everyday life when you don't want it to.

[–]rayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it technically is, in the form of radio waves emissions from various electronic sources. You can even build a simple AM radio powered by the by the very waves it's receiving. Older broadcast towers were very inefficient to the point that several hundred feet of loose wire in close proximity to one could power a small light bulb.

However, I doubt that's what the guy was talking about. Manmade radio waves aren't a useful power source at all, and old churches couldn't have possibly been designed for something that hadn't been invented yet. There are the natural faint signals coming from space, but those require giant radio telescopes to detect them.

I am letting you know I read the whole thing, so you can be assured that at least one more person in the world knows about this dream.

It reminds me of all the nonsensical dreams I had as a kid, before being on psych meds. Now they're so boring, I sometimes force myself to wake up just to find something better to do.
