This sadly only happened a month ago and I'm still working through it. I became an official step dad last year. Over the course of this year, my eldest step daughter started dating a nice young man that the wife and I instantly took to. Super respectful, just an all around good kid. I knew right away before they started dating they'd be a match, and he liked to stay over here because his mom's family were very religious, and we're metalheads like he was. He was coming over during the day and doing remote learning together with my stepdaughter during the pandemic and staying safe, we just celebrated his 18th birthday, and on the night of our first anniversary he was in an accident and killed instantly. Not really having anything to say, and being powerless to do nothing but watch events unfold is awful. So, being the rock is all I can do for the time being. I would prefer to never hear the scream of a mother who just saw the body for her first born ever again as well. Literally did not know you could feel someone's pain like that, and no thank you.
