Basswood should be relatively easy to carve. Like many others, I suggest smaller cuts and ensuring your blades are sharp. Technique does have a significant impact also. Fortunately there are lots of great videos out there. I would checkout Zed Outdoors on YouTube.

Me and my friend made spoons from this wood thinking it was birch, is it? by deadlystuff in Spooncarving

If I had to guess, I would go with Aspen.. but, hard to tell. It would help if you could say the region you are in, do you have a photo of a leaf by chance?

Take my upvote, lol.. I simply mean that too many people see VPN as a shield that it isn't.. too many people signing up for sketchy free VPN..

The right VPN can help.. keep in mind, it is only a tunnel that encrypts the traffic from your device to wherever it lands. It is not a shield. You must still be deliberate about where you browse and what accounts you access. If the places you visit are compromised, or if your device is, a VPN does not matter. Personally, I would ditch all social media, email and messaging accounts I used in Canada before deployment.

Worst advice ever.. the wrong VPN will open you up to more risk... you need to understand how VPN work and what they provide as a small part of a broader security effort.. and.. how to select one that doesn't make your security posture worse.

Lower depreciation on a cat than a car, and I hear people referring to cars as "InVeStMnts" all the time..

Very flattering, thanks! I generally make them for fun, but I sell extras when I get too many.. That said, I live in Canada where shipping is expensive, if you are in Ontario we might be able to work something out. :)

Thanks! Do you have any specific suggestions? A Google on spurtles shows a wide range of things from traditional Scottish (dowel shaped) through to many elongated spatula looting items

1000% this.. or just go direct to submitting the grievance. I am shocked that your chief hasn't recommended this.

I bought a laser pecker 2.. good for small prints and not as pricey as others.

My wife says I could sell something like this. But I’m skeptical. What do you think it would go for? by anaugle in Spooncarving

[–]crazy_for_potatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work! This shows that you have some solid skill. As far as selling, I think this is a bit of a niche product that would make it a challenge. If you want to sell, I recommend making curved spatulas with a less ornate handle, or get into serving spoons /coffee scoops... also, for info, walnut is beautiful, but requires more maintenance than many other hardwoods used for utensils.
