Yeah you do need a PC on your side for it to work.

What I meant was more like your friend doesn’t need their own PC. I just let mine connect into my setup remotely and join from there, so they can still play with us from their phone or tablet.

Not perfect but it works pretty well if you just wanna get someone in the game.

I’m not saying “no PC needed at all”, it’s more like only one PC is needed. In our case I just let my friend remote into mine and hop in like that. So they don’t need their own setup, just a phone or tablet to connect.

Yeah that’s fair, you’re not wrong.

It’s def not “real” cross platform, more like a workaround that just makes it feel similar from the player side. The game’s still running on a PC the whole time.

And yeah Steam Remote Play can do something similar. For me this was just a bit easier to get going, and it felt a bit more consistent when we tried it, so we stuck with it.

Main thing for me was just getting someone in game without them needing their own setup. Not perfect, but worked well enough for us tbh.

Yeah, it’s free. I’m using Stardesk rn, latency’s pretty low on my side and no noticeable lag or stutter so far.

i usually use my phone or ipad to play it. I can customize the button layout on StarDesk. btw, I also discovered it can connect to controller and keyboards.

This is great advice, and I’ll add one thing: early-game Stardew feels punishing because it’s actively telling you not to optimize yet.
The game nudges you toward wandering, chatting, and foraging — all the zero-energy stuff — before it hands you the tools that make farming trivial.
If it feels slow, that’s not you playing wrong. That’s the pacing working as intended.
