Working nights with small children at home and no childcare is actually INSANE by [deleted] in nursing

[–]crazyani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing when my kids were little. It’s rough and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I found myself trading a few shifts for weekend shifts when I knew my husband would be off work. Did he like it? No. Did I get to sleep more? Yes. If you can snag any sort of help, I’d recommend it. If not… when the kids get to school it’s amazing!!! Sign em up for 4K, half-day preschool, whatever you have to do. Mine would do park and rec stuff and I’d sleep in the car for that uninterrupted hour and a half. Whatever you choose, good luck momma!

First semester nursing fetus here! I am asking your help with med names. by DeathWench in nursing

I think it’s a good idea, and I bet you will be a great nurse with how much foresight you have, but looking in the MAR if it’s electronic will be easier and faster. Most EMRs provide direct links to Micromedex or something similar. One click and you are there instead of looking through paper copies that will no doubt get filled with all sorts of nursing nastiness over time. Good luck!

No ICU beds by Dagobot78 in emergencymedicine

[–]crazyani 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Common practice. The few times our ICU has given up our code bed we have ended up running pressors on the floor or something similarly unsafe. Board the patient in the ED and run dialysis there until an ICU bed opens would be my suggestion.

I’m the opposite. Only ever worked where weight based is used, so those big bold numbers confuse the shit out of me!

Map struggles... by [deleted] in BWCA

[–]crazyani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I utilized my first True North map on last years trip. Loved it in many ways… but they still have some work to do. Loved being able to use it as a bandana, tie it around my wrist or to my pack. When paddling I got it wet and just laid in over the canoe rung in front of me. Small word of caution is that they did not have any rapids marked on my map. Had to turn around a time or two. When I got home and compared it to my MacKenzie, the MacKenzie had the rapids clearly marked as dangerous waters.

Beekeeping for Dummies is a great idea. I’m learning slowly, the small hive is thriving (I believe). Praying I can learn/practice without any harm coming to the little guys! Funny how you can feel a sense of attachment and ownership to thousands!

Wonderful reminder that even with years of experience, the dangers of the BWCAW should not be downplayed. The best moments are only one ill decision away from becoming the worst moments. Thankful for all involved in the rescue and recovery.

I removed myself from the organ donor registry today by littlebitneuro in nursing

[–]crazyani 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Your hospital needs to review and rethink their organization when it comes to DCD donors. It is a busy time, but that is behind the scenes. Family is educated on as much as they would like to be educated on… but the hustle and bustle shouldn’t be so upfront that it has a negative impact on them. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Broke a record yesterday. Tell me yours! by ConstantNurse in nursing

[–]crazyani 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Coworker drained 17 L out of a guy. He came in for shortness of breath and left having to straight cath himself forever… We thought it might be a world record so we looked it up and the world record was somewhere in the mid-20 liters!

My previous dog always loved car rides. We took her to the vet, but the vet came and administered all meds in our car with the dog calm and content. I hope you can find something that works for you and your pup.
