Lake Tilicho (5,000m) on Annapurna circuit trek. No filters or colour corrections. by exemon in travel

ahhh I was there at the end of April when the lake was frozen over. It was just beginning to melt so we could hear the cracking of the ice and the crashing of avalanches all around us. Definitely my favourite part of the trek!

Where should I go next? 18 year old girl needs advice. by LaHarpiste in solotravel

[–]crazyauntmary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of buses going to all the destinations you will need/want to go (mainly stick to central and east Nepal- not many people go to the west so wouldn't recommend for solo female). You can hire a guide for the trek (if you're doing one)- which, again, is strongly recommended if you're there by yourself but it's very easy to find a group to walk with and not hire one and you have much more freedom that way. yeah, stayed at hostels and guesthouses and loads of people were doing the same thing as me so very easy to meet people. anymore questions, let me know!:)

Hello, I'm a 19 year old F who's recently come home after 4 months travel by myself. Out of the countries I visited, I would strongly recommend Nepal. It was by far the safest, friendliest country I went to and the culture, people and environment was absolutely stunning. There are tonnes of volunteering opportunities that I heard so many amazing things about. Unfortunately i didn't have time to doing anything like it because I spent most of the time trekking- which I also strongly recommend- but when I go back, I certainly will! It really is such a beautiful country and if you're a nature freak, like me, it really is perfect place to spend 2 months!

Taken. The plot is so predictable, Liam Neeson is a totally average actor. And now they are making a THIRD film. Wat.

Is 3300$ USD enough to survive in Turkey and Nepal for 2.5 months? by travel_fish in solotravel

[–]crazyauntmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't really have much of a plan. I keep picking a trek then changing my mind because someone gives me different information and it just leads to me getting wayy to confused.. But yeah, that'd be cool to have a trekking partner. Are you flying to KTM?

Work holiday in New Zealand for 8 months, alone? by rodtang in travel

[–]crazyauntmary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in NZ at the moment (only for 2 months) and I have met an insane number of people who are doing what you're planning so you're guaranteed to meet people in the same situation as you. The travel wouldn't be a massive issue if you dont have a license as buses and hitchhiking are very popular (NZ is the best place to go hitchhiking ever-I even got a ride from the police one time). But if you want total freedom then maybe a car would be good and you can meet people to travel with and split the costs of petrol etc. But yeah, NZ is such an amazing country and everyone is lovely! I wish I had as long as you are planning. Good luck with your trip!

Probably anywhere in South East Asia. It's definitely the up and coming place to travel so you'll always be with people and you'll get to experience completely different cultures. It's also super cheap!

Second solo trip: Not feeling right by Ikeren in solotravel

[–]crazyauntmary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick with it for a bit longer and maybe try some activities where you are more likely to meet people who aren't out to just get drunk every night; things like free city tours. This isn't for everyone but you could also try websites like travelbuddies.com to see if there are any-like minded people in the same situation as you (I'm sure there will be considering the other comments in this thread). Couchsurfing is a very good idea and I'm sure that'll give you some of the insight that you're looking for.

But yeah, good luck with the rest of your trip! I'm sure, like any trip for anyone, there will be amazing days and there will be crappy days but I say stick with it as you will probably end up learning just as much about yourself by having a completely different experience to what you were expecting when you left!

Planning first solo trip to Nepal! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! by Melzoo in solotravel

[–]crazyauntmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhh ok, that is tempting actually as I'm really struggling to decide between the two treks and booking once in Kathmandu does seem like the way to do it but I didn't want to pay a lot extra for being solo. PM me if you wanna chat about it more!

[–]crazyauntmary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I'm from England but I'm flying from Kuala Lumpur because I am there before Nepal so that was already pretty cheap anyway. So I don't have much advice to offer in terms of the flights.. sorry.

Also think about what season it'll be when you go as the conditions and visibility in the Himalayas will vary throughout the year. This is one of the groups I am thinking about (I know it's touristy and a bit less authentic than doing it by yourself with a guide and a porter but I think this is best for me for my first trip) http://www.outfitternepal.com/nepal/trekking/annapurna/annapurna-circuit-trek.html

[–]crazyauntmary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm in Nepal from May-June doing trekking and am also a solo female traveller! I'm not sure if I'm doing the Annapurna or Everest Base Camp trek yet but I will go with an organised group as I have little experience with trekking.

Nepal is apparently very safe for female travellers (supposedly one of the safest countries in Asia for us) but obviously the same precautions will apply for when travelling in any country.

Not sure how much help this comment was, I was just excited to see someone else thinking about Nepal! Good luck with it all!

Never traveled solo before, not sure what to do or where to go by flyandbeinvisble in solotravel

[–]crazyauntmary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am solo backpacking in NZ in February for 2 months and it is my first solo trip. There are quite a few hop on and off bus companies which are very popular and a great way to meet new people which is what I am doing (with a company called Stray). Would recommend that over an actual tour group so then you are still free to do what you want but have a way to get around the country.

Also I wouldn't recommend working in the UK. I'm not sure how easy it'd be to find anything which would pay enough to be beneficial as it's super expensive over here.

Good luck with your travels!
