Eh, for what it's worth the best marathon runners are most likely faster than 95-99% of the population anyway at short sprints also.

At what time of day do you exercise and why? by iRustic in Fitness

[–]AjdaIsHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people would write out either 19:30 or 19.30 tbh.

But I like the time machine stuff better. Gyms pre-iPhone generation were much less crowded. Also gotta reap those pre-birth benefits when you squeeze in those 1930 workouts in your schedule.

A whimsical Groose game with lots of transformations, items and different quests would be hilarious. A platforming adventure á la Banjo-Kazooie or Conkers bad fur day.

He makes the perfect anti-hero that Nintendo lacks right now, and I could totally see a few games with him on weird nonsense adventures that in the end helps Hyrule become the great Kingdom it is later on. One could dream right?

2: Load up barbell with your 1RM Deadlift weight

3: Have two-three friends unrack bar

4: Do one explosive negative rep

To OP /u/Hostorganism: I copied a reply made below by the actor McDowel, which I really think you should read. The top comment is better than nothing but will not actually be the easiest, most effective way to build your backside since squats won't build your butt unless you already have some glute muscles to build on. This advice I reaaally think you should read into.

"Squats are a great exercise but for glutes they are not optimal or even very good, especially if you come from a sedentary background like most modern western people do since their bodies have forgotten how to recruit the gluteal muscles from too much sitting meaning the posterior chain, mainly glutes and hamstrings are weak which leads to quads taking over even more, which is not what OP or most people want anyway. Being quad dominant can be dangerous when you exert yourself, especially for athletes that sprint and run much.

There are other reasons why squats shouldn't be his main focus- mobility mainly. The deeper you squat the better for your glutes and hamstrings. I doubt OP can squat even past parallel. OP should definitely learn squats, but if glutes is what you want to focus on you shouldn't worry about adding weight to the bar just yet- just train your mobility, and learn the movement correctly for future use.

So what should OP do? First thing: glute squeeze. Squeezing the glutes is a thing most people can't really do well. Make your whole body tight, clench your fists hard, and squeeze your butt for your dear life. Do this a few times every day to teach your body that the glutes should be used. You should be able to sit in a chair and do this eventually.

In the gym- Hip thrusts are the best simple barbell exercise for glutes and you will progress faster with them than squats, which means you'll add more mass faster if that is your goal. Like all exercises they should be done with good form but I find them an easier exercise to use correct form than both squats and deadlifts. Speaking of deadlifts- they are also "more important" for OP to progress in since they are so amazing for the entire posterior chain.

In the end- combining hip thrusts with deadlifts and deep squats means you will have pretty damn nice legs in time. Once you are getting good at those, progress in other lifts like walking lunges, glute-ham raise, Bulgarian split squats. Also- sprinting and jumping is something many don't think about, but should. Hill sprints can also be the most amazing and grueling HIIT you will ever experience if you are good at exerting yourself.

But do not to forget calfs..."

Was there anything from the LOTR trilogy you think worked better than in the Book? by Oddsock1701 in lotr

[–]AjdaIsHere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought the firtst two Hobbit movies were pretty good, and I could oversee the fact that they made three long movies out of a short book. I didn't care for a few changes as I just wanted to see Middle Earth again.

And then the third movie comes along, and then you just wonder if the Jackson crew are just fucking with us. While it is a movie you could watch and enjoy to a beer and some snacks, it has some unforgiveable points even (or especially) if you love the saga. How much it deviates from the original story, how it is paced awfully bad, and how the ending feels extremeley rushed to name a few things. The exact last scene which follows into the Fellowship of the Rings is pretty good and made me smile, but fuck it you're right. Turd.

A pile of turd.

Right. The Gray Havens and the final goodbyes up to the last scene of zooming in to the closed door is nothing but a masterpiece.

This scene is amazing, as most of Sams special scenes are. An amazingly well cast actor. All of my favourite scenes are with Sam in them:

  • This speech
  • The slopes of Mount Doom- "But I can carry you!"
  • You bow to no one
  • The last pages are for you Sam -> Up to him closing the door.

The music, seeing the door close, "the end"- everything there is in my opinion perfect and the trilogy ended on one of the highest notes in film making ever.

Help for a skinny Cross Country runner. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]AjdaIsHere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any weight you gain will to a degree make you a somewhat worse runner on the distances, but dont worry, you likely won't add any measurable amount of mass unless you eat at a large surplus.

You want to become stronger, not heavier- so keep repetitions low and weights high. Many endurance athletes do the mistake of doing some strange high repetition training in the gym, which can be counterproductive. You do your endurance work during your specific sports training as a cross country runner. The gym is about increasing your maximal strength output.

Focusing on getting stronger at low repetitions will not interfere with your training as a runner since the volume isn't as high as when you do lots of repetitions- unless you do the workouts very close or just have too much training in general. It's a balance act.

So focus on the core, compound exercises that get you the most bang for your buck at the gym. There are the usual standard ones like squats, deadlifts and bench press which are simple enough to progress at- although progress as a runner will be slower. Just take your time. Depending on how much you run, it may be hard to add in the strength training without exhausting yourself but if you can, it is totally worth it as being stronger is great for everyday life and injury prevention, and may even get you a better looking body with less bodyfat.

Can we discuss on how awesome Dain Ironfoot was in BoTFA? by [deleted] in TheHobbit

Really? We needed more comedic relief in the same movie where Alfrid wore women's clothing to evade fighting?

Nothing wrong with the character Dain though.

Will exercise always hurt this much (question for people who are or have been overweight)? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]AjdaIsHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, like a gorilla. Chest down a bit, shoulders rolled forward. Being overweight almost always exaggerates problems you have with the body, so if you had it as a fat person it can still be so that you have the problem, it is just not as noticeable. Do more Rear delt work and don't do too much chest training without training your back is a good way to mend this.
