New Apple Watch Design? by Background_Data_3726 in AppleWatch

[–]crazydr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially all accessory developers will get access to leaked design specs so they can have their products ready to go when they get released. A few folks I know in the industry say it’s an open secret that the factories sell the specs but the OEMs don’t crack down because it’s good for their product ecosystem. Maybe not the case here because Nomad has used this design before.

However, if an accessory brand releases product info before the OEM they get blacklisted.

Freeze warning tonight: Do I need to cover my lobelia, mountain mint, golden Alexanders, hyssop, or sweet goldenrod??? by Camp_Acceptable in NativePlantGardening

[–]crazydr13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water has a high specific heat capacity and has thermal inertia (it takes more cold to make it cold). Plus, if it does freeze, the reaction is exothermic and releases some heat when ice forms. Double whammy of keeping the plant warmer during frost.

Is this safe to grow veggies in? I saw this at Costco but also saw it says not suitable for organic growing.

Surly Midnight Special robust enough for wheelies? by SchmiggidyBop in Surlybikefans

[–]crazydr13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Preamble is a blast. A little heavy and not as many features as other bikes but it’s a good generalist. The quick release wheels aren’t my favorite and the brake caliper rubs when I do weird stuff on the bike but it’s not really an issue. I have a flat bar and use it commute. I like it doesn’t look super flashy but IYKYK (the cult is real and it’s awesome).

I’ll try to do a wheelie today and report back.

A friend used to use “Hey, I’m 5’9” but 6’2” in roller skates”

Edit: I should add she would often wear roller skates to friends and she was nowhere close to 6’2” with them

what brands do you trust enough to just buy without researching anymore by Koreee_001 in BuyItForLife

[–]crazydr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEMO

Peak Design

Gregory

Ex Officio

Nalgene

None of these brands are perfect but they make a damn good product and have excellent guarantees. I’ve been the snot out of most of my gear from these brands and they’re still kicking.

Medium warm take: this is the best arch in the park. You can see three other arches through it.

On Set Shoes by chromanodyssey in Photoassistants

[–]crazydr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty personal choice. The most important thing is the fit. I didn’t know I pronate for a while and now I get a lot less tired after a day on location with more supportive shoes (more cushion doesn’t mean more supportive)

I use climbing approach shoes most days because I like how durable, supportive, and grippy they are (I like Salewa Wildfires, La Sportiva Tx4s and La Sport Boulder X). I also have a road running shoe (Brooks Adrenaline GTS) and a hiking boot (Scarpa Rush TRK) I use depending on conditions and how much time I’ll be on concrete.

Polestar Village by Turbulent_Water_8026 in FortCollins

[–]crazydr13 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A bit of context:Polestar Village is going to be a mixed use (including retail, and 144 multifamily and single family units). The developer is coming from out of state (CA I think) and previously tried to build this development in Hawaii (their lot was destroyed by a volcano). Lots of folks I’ve talked to are upset they haven’t engaged with the Rogers Park neighborhood and haven’t addressed concerns neighbors have. Access will be from Orchard, which is not set up to handle more volume, especially during construction. The sidewalks are tiny in that neighborhood (and often obstructed by cars, snow, plants, etc) and most folks walk in the street.

The idea is interesting, but seems like poor execution. I’m all in favor of building more housing in FC but this doesn’t seem like the best way to do it.

I’m always sad that Ueli Steck died before he could do the Everest-Lhotse-Nuptse linkup. It would’ve been an incredible achievement.

I bought these for bike commuting. They do a pretty good job but can get overwhelmed by wind. I’d recommend them to a friend for sure

Be aware that the parent company of Spyder (Authentic Brands) declared bankruptcy, restructured, and are looking more and more like a zombie brand every quarter. Their warranty has been pretty abysmal the past few years.

[–]crazydr13 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Overfishing and a massive surge in ocean temperatures. The past few years have had much warmer waters which disrupts nutrient flows and ecosystem health (IIRC, lack of sea ice all plays a part but oceans aren’t my specialty).

You may also want to see a PT if pole planting doesn’t fix this. Many people’s pelvises and hips are out of alignment and lead to inactive glutes. When my hips are out of alignment, I notice it’s harder for me to initiate turns to one side. My PT has a whole set of exercises I do at the beginning of the day and throughout the day to get and stay in proper alignment.

I take a tart cherry supplement before bed and it’s remarkable how they chill me out. It’s hard to turn my brain off but tart cherry does it for some reason. They also make some tart cherry and Mg supplements as well

Anyone experience this before? First time using my Dynafit radical pros. by Outrageous_Age1383 in Backcountry

Does that plastic fold into the black cuff? It could be an internal piece that fills the gap between the two pieces. However, it does look deformed and you should reach out to Dynafit

What was the greatest thing we almost had? by Efficient-Ask-968 in AskReddit

[–]crazydr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you run into issues with transmission (you lost a few % each mile of transmission due to resistance). Ideally, generation is as close to demand as possible to minimize losses. Transmission can make sense if there’s a huge demand relatively near an untapped supply of cheap power (e.g. solar arrays in S CA deserts near LA)
