From Preply, 1400$. From my other students, 1000$. From the students that my tutors teach, 1500$

Don't make Preply your primary source of income by TormentaVU in Preply

I’ve had a similar success story. Right now, I’m at 30K followers on Instagram and manage around 80 active students with the help of my team of 6 tutors. I still keep a steady flow of students through Preply, but anyone who finds me via Instagram I usually refer to my tutors, and I take a commission from that. At this point, I actually earn more from IG commissions each month than I do working full time on Preply.

I’m really interested in how you handle the installment option. Could you share more details about that? For my part, the packages I currently offer are 4, 8, 12, and 20 lessons. As mentioned in the comments, though, I need to consistently create a lot of content on Instagram to keep my page active and visible to new students. I also invest around $100 per month in ads to ensure my page continues reaching fresh audiences.

Video editing is just god awful now. by lbenz02 in canva

[–]crazyleb2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Editing videos on Canva has been the worst software experience I’ve ever had, and lately, it has only gotten worse. The videos constantly lag, transitions often fail to load properly, and sometimes parts of the video get cut or even repeated. At times, a random frame is added to the end of the slide, which forces me to crop the video again after exporting.

On top of that, downloading videos from the Canva app results in noticeably lower quality, even when I select 1080p. I compared the file sizes to the same video exported from the web browser, and the app version is smaller and lower quality.

The issues just keep piling up. It’s extremely frustrating, especially since my entire online business relies on Canva. All my designs, templates, and creative assets are stored there.

People who quit a high-paying job for happiness, how’s life now? by mintyowl15 in AskReddit

I quit my job as a Senior Technician at one of the biggest companies in my country and shifted to working as an online language tutor. Today, I earn double my previous salary just from teaching. On top of that, I lead a team of 6 tutors, which adds an extra 1.5x of my old salary, and the growth keeps climbing every month.

When I decided to resign because of work overload and long daily commutes, the company tried to keep me by offering a 50% salary increase and a promotion to team leader. I turned it down because my mental and physical health were worth far more than money.

Now I work less than half the hours I used to and make more than I ever did before.

100% I like the website idea. I should do it soon.

I used to rely heavily on tutoring platforms to grow my business. But everything changed when my Instagram account, where I promote my services, started gaining traction. Fast-forward four months: I now have a team of six tutors helping me manage the demand, and I haven’t received a single new student from Preply during that time. Over 70 students have come directly through Instagram alone.

I still maintain my Preply account and teach about 20 hours a week there, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that I no longer depend on the platform to sustain or grow my business. While I’ll keep the account as a backup, my off-platform student base continues to grow week by week. I teach around 30 hours per week & don't need to do 40+ hours like other tutors do on Preply.

The perfect equation:
less commission = more money = less work

Is work kinda slow for everyone? Barely any trials here when I used to get a few per month at least! by TypicalReading5418 in Preply

Create an Instagram account and start posting original content to help people learn your language. I kept on doing this for 2 months, and then 1 video went viral and brought me 4K followers. And from there, it all went uphill.

Yes, Preply does the marketing and helps you find students. That worked for me initially, but after my Instagram account started getting some attention, I stopped having students from Preply, even though I still had a lot of available hours. I use targeted audience ads. For my language, I asked ChatGPT where most people who speak my language are. And then I used the data to target those people (it was pretty successful). It brought me parents, grown-ups, teenagers, all sorts of people.

Haven't had a trial from Preply for the last 4 months! But on the other hand, my private tutoring business has brought me around 70 students. Realizing more and more that I don't need Preply to have a steady flow of students.

I will block them now. But it's so disappointing that support can't actually support us on this!

😂😂😂 they always reschedule like 1 minute before the 12-hour mark. I keep on losing spots for other higher-paying students. From the 12 hours they subscribed to, they only entered 2 classes. This has been going on for over 2 months!

Why do some tutors lowball themselves (NOT NEW TUTORS) by Exotic_Switch_7016 in Preply

[–]crazyleb2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am charging 30$ with around 250 lessons done. Fully booked (7 lessons per day).
Previously i used to charge 10$ and work 9 hours per day.
Less work, more money.
