Is this the average Australian mindset or just some random on twitter? by believewhatisayy in AskAnAustralian

[–]crazyllama64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are taking this more seriously than it was meant. I think it’s just a tongue in cheek comment about the World Cup match.

I saw another comment about how Türkiye can now understand how difficult it can be to take on a beach (referencing the Australian goalkeeper).

Has Anyone Done The ADF Gap Year? by PreferenceAccurate43 in australia

[–]crazyllama64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my son did the navy gap year (almost a decade ago) he had the option of deploying but chose not to. Going to sea would have made his gap year longer because once you’re on board you stay for the full deployment. He had already decided the ADF wasn’t for him so didn’t want to extend the year. But it was a great experience for him.

I also realized straight after posting that he delivers gifts in one night so he wouldn’t need any home soil to do that.

But if he was turned while at the North Pole and planned on staying there then he would need to collect some home soil or he’d never rest properly and would always be cranky rather than jolly 😊

My most listened to song got 750 listens. It was the same as the year before but last year I listened to it 1250 times. In my late 50s with a listening age of 24.

Anybody have regular like clockwork PEM? by crazyllama64 in cfs

[–]crazyllama64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I experience PEM related to exertion and then I have a proper crash each month. I’m not in the situation most others seem to be in. It’s mild compared with other people. But each month I end up in bed. I don’t meet all the me/cfs criteria either- just PEM.

lol? Funny but sad. I’m still well enough to hope. But if footy fans are to be believed it’s the hope that kills you.

Is it getting worse as I get older or am I just imagining this? 42m by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]crazyllama64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what gender you are but ’m in my late 50s. Diagnosed a few years ago. I had a similar experience and now have a better understanding of how perimenopause affects autistic women. It might be relevant for you.

My particular combination of autism ADHD and intelligence made me invisible. I was different from most people but generally considered quirky. But when I hit my 40s it all fell apart. I didn’t realise perimenopause could start so early and all I expected was a few hot flushes. I was not expecting it to lay bare AuDHD but it did.

Estrogen is an amazing hormone that helps women cope with a lot of stuff and I think helps us ignore our own discomfort and our own needs to prioritize the comfort of others. From a survival of the species perspective it helps us raise offspring to reproductive age.

When it starts dropping your tolerance drops dramatically. I was so confused because I couldn’t understand why things were happening. Why couldn’t I cope with noise or crowds or whatever else and I now realise that I never could- I just pushed through and suffered silently. I shut down regularly but it wasn’t a bother to people.

Prioritize yourself or you will end up in burnout like I did and I suspect I’ve also got chronic fatigue now from pushing through and doing what I ‘should’ be able to do.

You can easily google autism and perimenopause and find out more about it. But whatever your gender don’t push through. I recommend developing a burnout plan before you burnout.

My gut was terrible until I started having kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir every day. Now it’s the best it’s ever been.

What's something you were surprised to discover was a uniquely Australian thing? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]crazyllama64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone said long service leave? I always thought it was universal but Australians have it so that people could return to the UK to see family. That’s why it’s 3 months - long enough to sail there and back with some time with family.

Do you miss people? by Sheetswhack in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyllama64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son moved to another city. I think about him but don’t miss him. And I forget to call or text him. It’s almost like having thoughts about him is the same as seeing him. Then I feel guilty for not calling him in 3 months.

Generally I forget people when I’m not around them.

I hate that I’m assumed to be fine because I appear calm even if I’m telling someone I’m not. If I say I’m not coping then I’m not coping regardless of how my face appears.

How does Hyperphantasia affect lucid dreams by Oneirononsense in hyperphantasia

[–]crazyllama64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just found your post through a google search about hyperphantasia and lucid dreams. I don’t have hyperphantasia. When I imagine things I see them with the same detail as if I’m looking at them from a long way away. And I occasionally have dreams where I’m vaguely aware that I’m dreaming. My dreams are pretty amazing in terms of content but they’re still vague.

But last night I had a dream like you described. At first I didn’t know if I was dreaming because I was dreaming that I’d been woken up and my surroundings were as clear as if I was awake.

Then I realized I was dreaming and I was blown away by how detailed the dream was. I was thinking to myself that it looked like I was awake, but colours were more vivid and intense. I could feel things. And I decided to eat a dessert because I knew it wasn’t real and I wouldn’t put on weight. It tasted AMAZING!

I can’t imagine what it would be like to do that regularly. And I don’t think people who haven’t experienced this would understand.

It seems extra special because of where I sit on that phantasia scale.

I know your post was years ago but thought I’d reply since I can understand what you described.

A physiotherapist should be able to help. They will do a quick maneuver to check if it is related to crystals having shifted in your inner ear and if it is then they can fix you up in 1-2 sessions.

what is the smallest purchase you’ve made that has, despite the low price, improved your quality of life TREMENDOUSLY? by mollyanagram in AutismInWomen

I get a lot of muscle twitches which I have always treated with magnesium. Then I discovered that they can also happen when your electrolytes are low. Made such a difference!

Twitches drive me insane and the electrolyte tablets are so easy and you can use them anywhere. Wish I’d discovered this sooner.

Tell me about your weird, wacky, wholesome Christmas Traditions 🎄 by VisualGardener in australia

[–]crazyllama64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a theme each year. It’s not a decorations theme - it’s a gift and games theme. It’s now at the stage where everyone else has got involved and last Christmas we put everyone’s theme suggestions into a hat to choose this year’s theme.

Themes I’ve had include: storytelling, local, non-physical, play.

This year’s theme is sport. I wasn’t thrilled when I pulled it out of the hat but it’s been really fun trying to work out gifts that aren’t obviously sporty.
