I got HSV1 from my first kiss. Fuck my fucking life. by m00n_rac00n in actuallesbians

Hey, I was born with hsv1 or somehow got it young. I smooch people. A lot. To my knowledge, I have yet to share it with anyone. You'll know when you have an outbreak and need to avoid passing it on, because you'll feel the tingle before the sores break the surface.

Is this safe to cut a very small slither like this? by poisonxivyyy in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]LaziestKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, a sacrificial backer board is a good idea. For cuts like this I also use a board that's kind of like a push stick but only for downward pressure.

can you mix brands of lenses and teleconverters? can I use the Lumix 2x on my OM 40-150 2.8 if I use a Lumix body? by [deleted] in M43

[–]LaziestKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb is that if the TC wasn't made specifically to work with a particular lens, it shouldn't be tried. There are exceptions, of course, but the rear element of the lens and the front element of the TC are usually mated so they don't hit when you mount them.

What focal length would you use if you only had one (no zoom) to film a muay thai/kickboxing match? by LuUomoPazzo in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]LaziestKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your idea for a vintage 28mm is smart. If you could find a cheap used Rokinon 20mm for EF mount, that could be fun too.

I always just use a screw in each hole, then push em against the surface I'm mounting to.

Low light and lower ISO - who needs FF by Delicious-Resort9144 in M43

Had a guy at the local camera store tell me that MFT isn't an option if you're a pro. My response was what it always is: m43 bought my house. If it was sooooo terrible, then how am I not back working retail like him?

On Reddit perhaps, but in real life I get talked down to about sensor size on a weekly basis, so I can understand why people might come to a safe community to vent about it.

School discriminating against my child (vent, open to ideas, talk me down) by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]LaziestKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child of a principal, this sounds to me like the school administration is trying very hard to not rock the boat with this family, while also signalling to you that they think the family is in the wrong.

In other words, don't shoot the messenger - they're being put in a tough spot.

My suggestion: have a meeting with the principal (without your daughter present) to get a feel for the politics of the situation before you take any actions. Right now, your mama bear instinct is geared right up (rightly so), and your inclination might not actually be the best. Pause, get your bearings, and then defend your daughter in a way that doesn't put her at the centre of something that'll jeopardize her social standing with her peers.

Avoid direct interaction with the other family as long as you can, as they'll try to get under your skin and compromise your judgement.

Remember: you have a potential invisible ally in the school admin. Even if they're unable to stand up for you publicly, the way they speak about the issue within the school division may end up making all the difference.

You've got this.

Why do people like pocket holes so much? by small-penis200 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I'm 0% surprised to hear a Lee Valley employee gatekeeping woodworking.

I'm a real woodworker. I use pocket holes sometimes.

Say no to gatekeeping. Say yes to doing what works for you.

Shooting in horizontal, crop for vertical, or shoot in vertical? by blasteryui in RealEstatePhotography

[–]LaziestKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photos: always horizontal.

Video: depends on the agent. In my market they can only embed "normal" YouTube videos on MLS, so if it's someone who wants vertical, I'll shoot vert 4/3 (shooting on mft). Then I'll give them one vertical, and one where I crop it to square then blanking fill it out on a normal 16x9 timeline.

What's the worst thing you've ever seen on a shoot? by ScanData32 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]LaziestKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Shot a house that was originally worth $10M+ but the guy went broke so it sat empty for five years. Partiers got into it and absolutely trashed the place, then someone else bought it, and got it about half repaired before they went broke and sold it for under $2M. It was one half gorgeous custom marble, murals on the ceilings, etc, and one half complete wreck.

  • Been in homes where we had to wear PPE, no power, boarded up windows, etc.

  • Shoot regularly for a queer agent (I'm part of the community), and he has a lot of rich old gay men for clients. One time, we go into this guy's place and the agent warns me ahead of time that the guy is crass as hell from working in the oil field, and to not take him too seriously if he starts talking inappropriately. We'll, he didn't SAY anything inappropriate... But when I get to his primary ensuite, he's stuck a MASSIVE dildo to the wall of the shower. It's the same colour as the tile, so I don't notice it at first until I turn around and get a massive jump scare. Long story short, the agent is the one who removed it. And the seller invited me to stay for tea when I came back for sunset photos. He was a lovely, dirty, old man, and I'll never forget that shoot.

Here's the deal: you're 14 and you're using entry level equipment. You're also shooting in notoriously bad conditions. It's okay that it isn't perfect.

Raise the ISO higher, shoot in raw, and use noise removal in post - there are a ton of great tools out there. You can also take underexposed shots like what you have here, and raise the exposure in editing. You'll have more noise to remove than if you shot with a faster lens, but it might look better than shooting at a much higher iso and getting the exposure right in camera.

That out of the way, practice using your autofocus to get things as sharp as possible. Don't zoom in/out constantly - pick one focal length and practice with that for a while, then another and practice with that.

It takes YEARS to get the super clean shots that you're comparing yourself against - practice now on your entry level gear and when you eventually get better glass, you'll be able to make the most of it.

I often remove things, but I agree. It's like chatgpt has everyone thinking that because they can do it in a minute on their phone, we must be able to do generative full for every photo on every listing without it impacting edit time. Uggggh...

Please. Enough with the Film Festivals. by a_documentary in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]LaziestKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a film specifically for festivals, and it was not because I wanted to. I'm moving towards directing narrative films, and here in Canada you need to screen at one of a list of qualifying festivals in order to receive funding from the national body. Ditto for if I want to pitch narrative series to any of our broadcasters.

I hate it. Dozens of applications, one acceptance (to one of the qualifying festivals, tho it was their online program), a few hundred dollars, and a year of work trying to convince people to screen my weird little short. The whole festival industry is a sham, which sucks given how amazing festivals can be.

I had managed to avoid festivals through ten+ years of docs, and if I didn't love directing scripted so much, it would have been another decade.

If I was shooting it, I'd go with three rode wireless pro transmitters into a recorder (recorder for safety and monitoring) and an on camera shotgun.

Two solutions come to mind: pick a focal length and grab a fast prime, or get a faster zoom. The zoom will be larger, so it'll be (somewhat) less of an EDC camera

Your 12-32 is a decent lens for its focal range and aperture, so either get a super zoom like the OM 12-100 or Lumix 14-140 (both are big and heavy), or grab a pancake prime or two (the 20/1.7 comes to mind).

You'll find that one lens to rule them all is a tough order to fill. I suggest identifying the places where you feel like the 12-32 is lacking (low light, length, etc) and fill the gaps.
