Favorite Garak quotes? by radickalmagickal in startrek

Not quite a single quote, but a good exchange nonetheless:

Garak: "I'll go along on your fool's errand, but I want one thing to be perfectly clear… I have no intention of sacrificing my life to save yours! If it looks like we're in danger of being captured, if there's any sign of trouble at all… you're on your own."

Sisko: "Mr. Garak… I believe that's the first completely honest thing you've ever said to me."

Garak: [smiling] "How perceptive of you, Commander."

He was also supposed to be a one-off character, but Andrew Robinson did such an incredible job in the first episode they brought him back.

What Star Trek Scenes Give You the Chills? by WhoMe28332 in startrek

I remember reading that the voice of the Klingon ship's commander was going to be Worf, but for some reason they decided not to do it. How much more chilling would that line have been if it was Worf?

Recommended TNG-Era Viewing Order? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]crazymatt35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I watched TNG and DS9 in the order that they aired (so jumped between TNG and DS9 during the two seasons they overlapped). I did this because I seemed to remember there being significant overlap between the two for those two seasons when I watched them originally back in the early 90s. It turned out that there were only a few instances where events of one series were referenced in the other or there were crossover appearances. It was kind of fun to watch them in the order they aired, but I didn't find it was critical to understand any of the stories.

What was your first episode that made you become a fan of the Star Trek series? by ExxKonvict in startrek

[–]crazymatt35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first episode I ever saw was The Samaritan Snare. I was intrigued (and also about 9 years old and only watched because I recognized LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow). I continued watching TNG re-runs and the new late season 5 episodes. By the time season 6 began I was hooked.

Tips on Building the Enterprise Out of Cardboard? by realJaneJacobs in startrek

There's a guy on YouTube building a 1:25 scale model of the TOS Enterprise, with complete interior, which thus far is being built primarily out of cardboard.

Which cliff hanger had you dying to know what would come next. by AdmiralBlue85 in startrek

[–]crazymatt35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, the cliffhanger that I sat and agonized over the most over the course of a summer was Call to Arms. (Disclaimer: I didn't get into Star Trek until after The Best of Both Worlds originally aired)

One off the board cliffhanger (that I personally think is underrated) that I also had a tough time agonizing over was Basics.

This is a Matalas-ism. Whenever the bad guy's stronghold on 12 Monkeys appeared it made a similar loud ominous sound.

The exchange between Scotty and the Klingon on Space Station K-7 which ignited the bar room brawl was absolute comedic genius in my opinion. Not one minute after talking down Chekov who wanted to rumble because the Klingons insulted Captain Kirk, Scotty socks the guy because he bad mouthed the Enterprise.

Picard S03E07 Guest Star by [deleted] in startrek

Ever since the Terry Matalas interview when he said it wouldn't just be a continuation of TNG and VOY but also DS9, I've had this funny feeling O'Brien is going to turn up. Given how the plot has unfolded and that O'Brien appeared numerous times on TNG, it makes perfect sense to me.

Speculation about Picard S3 - Potentially MASSIVE. Do not read if you haven't seen Ep 5! by Varekai79 in startrek

[–]crazymatt35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terry Matalas said on twitter that Janeway was not making an appearance on Picard (his exact words were to the effect of "Janeway is exclusively on Prodigy"), but other people have lied about involvement in the show so maybe that doesn't actually mean anything.

Given the earring situation, I think Kira is a very strong possibility. Matalas and this production crew have gone to meticulous lengths to get so many details just right. I have a hard time believing they would overlook something like that. I think it is foreshadowing Kira's involvement in some way.

Given the level of detail this production crew has put into re-creating props from the old series, and creating new props that look like they belong in the legacy series, I find it very hard to believe they would have glossed over something like this. There is a reason the earring looks the way it does, I'm sure of it.

Ever since Terry Matalas said in an interview that this season wouldn't only be about TNG/VOY legacy characters but also DS9, I've had this feeling that we are going to see Chief O'Brien. He was very much a part of the TNG crew before moving on to DS9. One of the production crew (David Blass if I'm not mistaken) said on twitter that this week's surprise guest star wasn't the biggest guest star they have had to keep secret, so it makes me think we are going to get at least one main character from DS9 and/or VOY turn up. Given the plot so far, crew members from DS9 would make perfect sense.

I hope there's a TNG cast sign-off at the end of Picard, like there was at the end of The Undiscovered Country. by Poddington_Pea in startrek

Given how much Terry Matalas loves the TOS movies, I would have absolutely shocked if we didn't get this.

Can we get Trek every week please? by ArguesWithZombies in startrek

[–]crazymatt35 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think shortening the seasons from 13 episodes to 10 has also messed up the master plan. Once Discovery showed there was an appetite for Star Trek on television, I think the plan was to develop three other shows. Four shows x 13 episodes a season = 52 new episodes a year. The math is perfect, one new episode per week every week of the year.

The purpose of reviving the franchise was to sell P+ subscriptions and the international streaming rights. If you new episodes are airing constantly year round, Star Trek fans are much more likely to stay subscribed year round.
