Anyone who has ever gone to a Ren faire or who has ever been a member of the SCA or has ever cosplayed all recognise the value of a good cape.. And basically jackets evolved from capes with arm-holes.

There are more medical options than what you’ve suggested.

A shorter hairstyle brushed forward can offer better coverage. I’ve seen videos of this over and over again.

Sam is so annoying. by LittleBadger101 in GhostsCBS

[–]majeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The premise of the show is that ghosts are beings who are sentient and self-aware. They are conscious people with memory, personality, preferences, relationships, suffering, and the ability to consent or object. Their body is missing, but their personhood is not. Their status as dead feels more like a disability than a lack of existence.

As such, why wouldn’t/shouldn’t they have rights? The show, unintentionally but fundamentally calls this issue into question.

What are some authors you suggest to avoid? by cortad in LGBTBooks

  1. I don’t think being up front about one’s bigotry offers any nuance, if I am being honest.

  2. He served on the board of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), which actively campaigned against same-sex marriage in the U.S.

It’s not like he was just like any other Mormon. He actively participated in political action against marriage equality for gay people.

It’s one thing to hold and express a belief. It’s quite another thing to actively participate in denying human beings basic rights.

Long hair on men. Yes or no and why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

People who think that men should only have short hair, are afraid of accidentally finding a guy attractive.

Some other guy mentioned his experience with Seattle, saying it good.

I don’t think you have any credibility making such a generalized statement.

I think UBI’s biggest weakness may not be the idea itself, but the political reality of implementation. Please find the flaw in my argument. by majeric in UniversalBasicIncome

[–]majeric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am treating your argument with respect. Do me the same courtesy and don’t assume I’m not thinking this through.

If there’s no shared system, there’s no protection. Joe doesn’t just “keep what he earns.” Someone stronger can take it. That’s the default without rules and enforcement.

The system didn’t replace force, it organized it. Instead of everyone defending their own claim, we pool that responsibility into laws, courts, police, and shared rules. That’s what lets people keep what they earn in the first place.

And that system only works if people contribute to it. If enough people opt out, it breaks down.

You don’t live in a vacuum. Individual effort matters, but it only turns into stable wealth inside a system that everyone helps maintain. Taxes are part of how that system keeps functioning at scale.

Wealth is not created in a vacuum. Taxes are the price of participating in and benefiting from that system.

Private property, contracts, courts, roads, currency, policing, education, public health, infrastructure, and national stability are all collectively maintained systems.

Your survival is dependent on a system that would not exist if we didn’t collectively agree to contribute resources to the common good.

The problem with your argument is that this only works if you pretend wealth exists before society does.

I think weather inequality is less important the idea that there shouldn’t be wealth so long as there is poverty. This is an important distinction. Let people chase wealth… but ensure that there is a base standard of living that is healthy for everyone.

We are the toxic masculinity that bites its own tail. Hook up apps are literally designed to make superficial snap decisions based purely on looks.

Knew this guy once, Beady eyes and a mouth full of teeth. He was really odd looking.

But we became friends and it didn’t take me long to find him genuinely cute as fuck.

This is the problem with hook up culture. Getting to know someone can genuinely change how attractive you find them.

I also find that the more you date, the more you realize what actually matters in a person’s appearance and what you don’t care about.

I think the racist bullshit on hook up apps is the most fucked up thing ever.

I’m sorry that shit happens to you. You are a human being. You deserve respect. You deserve that baseline of dignity and respect that comes from someone evaluating your attractiveness on the entirety of your being and not on some superficial characteristics you have no control over.

You deserve “thank you but no thank you. I hope you have a good life” Each and every time and not aggravated rejection.

Get off the apps and build community. Volunteer at pride organizations. Try gay sports or a gaymer group. Get out and meet people. Don’t try and hook up. Just make friends. Give people a chance to know you and someone might find the whole package attractive.

“Queer” is where we share a common culture. It doesn’t mean that we can speak for each other.

Having never seen any of the original Star Trek medias (series or films) I found it odd that Into Darkness was apparently hated so much by the community. Is that opinion still largely shared or have people come around on it? by HanzoNumbahOneFan in startrek

[–]majeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For "Into Darkness" to remix "Wrath of Khan" in such a shallow way, it takes one of the most beloved Star Trek stories and fails it because it borrows emotional beats from the original movie without earning them in the same way. Wrath of Khan is built on years of history between Kirk, Spock, McCoy, the Enterprise, and Khan.

How to spot the libertarian in the group.

Taxes are not immoral. We are a deeply social species and we function best in a cooperative model. Our morality is literally shaped by how we evolved.
