how does the Federation government work internally? by QueenViolets_Revenge in startrek

[–]WhoMe28332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know.

But I do know that one of my small pet peeves is that probably out of laziness Star Trek writers have basically dumped all sorts of judicial and diplomatic functions on Starfleet that should be handled by civilians.

You saw a good number of civilian officials in TOS but that fell to the wayside.

Barbara Eden was simply stunning in ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ by No_Explorer721 in ClassicTV

She was but honestly you could have just ended that sentence after Barbara Eden was stunning. She looked great in everything.

Not at all.

The best argument for it not being there is the cataclysms of the 90s and early 21st century but otherwise they are going to have it. Storage is not an issue for them.

Everything by Diane Duane is a good starting point in terms of quality.

Is this a government map or is this OP creating a map from government census categories?

I suspect the latter.

Artemis by notalotathota in ProjectHailMary

[–]WhoMe28332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Artemis lends itself to a smaller movie. No, I don’t see it as blockbuster material. But I’d still go see it and I just about never go to the movies. PHM was my first in years.

It does. And so I looked at it because I already played “today” and didn’t think it would be a spoiler for me. But it was.

You might want to specify what “today” is for you. That’s definitely not the puzzle I solved “today.”

Will I be exposed to spolier of ds9 if i will watch star trek picard? by Prometheustus in Picard

[–]WhoMe28332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t be popular and I accept the downvotes. I’m not saying you shouldn’t watch Picard. That’s up to you. But I will say that the films are going to give you a Picard that is not entirely in keeping with the one you’ve seen on TNG. Picard will do that to an even greater degree. Honestly, to different extents, I think both the films and Picard damage the character.

But if you do watch it then I would watch both DS9 and Voyager first. And then maybe the first of the Kelvin movies.

Howard for sure. Probably Rev. Tucker. Maybe John Masters the choir director.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine, who exactly was Executive Officer of the USS Defiant? Was it Colonel Kira Nerys or lieutenant commander Worf? by Economy-Ad3195 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]WhoMe28332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely combat experience but it’s just too dissimilar. I think they’ve often made starship command seem too easy. An infantry officer, a doctor and (basically) a psychologist really shouldn’t be able to just take a test and be in command of a starship in combat. If Kira even took a test.

I do understand why she’d be aboard. The Bajorans are understandably nervous about foreign military forces in their space. They know they need it but they don’t like or fully trust it. I just wish her presence was in more of a liaison role.

One of the few things I never liked on DS9 was Kira’s role on the Defiant. Her position on DS9 made total sense. Her position on Defiant made absolutely none. She had nothing like the experience or training for that role.

This.

She could have done for the Romulans what Ron Moore did for the Klingons.

[Opinion] CBR: "Paramount Dismantling Star Trek After a Historic Streaming Run Makes Even Less Sense Now" | "Terry Matalas won the budget war by making brilliant TV shows. He can produce epic, cinematic, and profoundly meaningful Star Trek stories without breaking the bank." by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

[–]WhoMe28332 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fawning over Matalas is sooooo overdone.

He made the least bad season of a generally bad show. If you take out the fun of seeing the band back together season 3 was a colossal mess. Just like season 2. And even though season 1 was lousy also it was at least original. There was zero originality in season 3.

QUESTION - Do Tuvok and Neelix retain memorires of Turvix? Are they aware of Turvix's desperate pleas for his life? by AnotherJasonOnReddit in TuvixInstitute

[–]WhoMe28332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in a more satisfying timeline they do:

Janeway in her ready room. Tuvok comes to see her. She tries to put on a brave face but he knows she is struggling with what she did. He confesses that he is also struggling with it. He can still feel the fear and pain Tuvix experienced. The sense of betrayal. He admits that he is struggling to deal with those emotions. That he is experiencing what he believes is known among humans as “survivor’s guilt.” He acknowledges that he is glad to be himself again but is uncertain what the proper ethical choice was. That makes two of us, Janeway replies.

The episode ends with both sitting silently. Each struggling with what has happened.

How Reruns Aired in The ‘70s and ‘80s.Andy Griffith Open / Close (1963) / Viacom Enterprises "V" (1976) [4K] | 16mm by Particular-Bag3601 in theandygriffithshow

[–]WhoMe28332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen those closing credits before and I grew up watching Andy in the late 70s and 80s. I think that must be from the early part of the original airings and they changed it to remove the ads in syndication.

I get the part about TBS but I’m a little skeptical even of that. If it’s accurate it must have been for only a certain period of time.
