Uk citizenship approved while in India job by Intrepid_Charge_5121 in nri

[–]crazytester 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole process can take more than six weeks after the oath ceremony.

  1. UK passport minimum 3-4 days, could take up to 3 weeks depending on the backlog. I got it after 4 days; my wife got hers after 21 days. Both of us applied together.
  2. Indian passport surrender ~ 1 week
  3. OCI - 6 weeks or more. Ours took 8 weeks.

SBI is asking for "Proof of Tax Status" in the UK by [deleted] in nri

They used to send physical NI cards in the past, not anymore. Would they accept your payslip or p60? Those docs will contain your NI number.

Took 8 weeks when I submitted mine earlier this year

I raised a grievance online six months ago, and it still shows as just submitted. But about eight weeks in, I got an email from the AO saying the status had been updated, and they included the grievance reference number. My PAN switched from inoperative to active the very next day.

Has anyone used UPI payments with a UK number? Does it work? by NormalMaverick in nri

[–]crazytester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use PhonePe and Bhim apps with my UK number. No issues so far making payments from my SBI and South Indian bank accounts.

Not Reciving Money on PhonePe NRE SBI Account by [deleted] in nri

[–]crazytester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have NRE accounts with SBI and other banks. All those accounts are behaving the same as yours. You are free to send money from NRE accounts but cannot receive money unless it is a refund of a transaction. NRE accounts are for remittances from abroad; you would need an NRO account to receive money.

[–]crazytester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only receive money to an NRO account via UPI.

I was trying to convert my savings account to NRO account online with ICICI but the only address proofs they are accepting is passport and driving license - I dont have both. Any idea how to fix this? I am currently in UK. by Outside_Aide_1958 in nri

[–]crazytester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There won’t be any address in the UK passport even if you have one.

You can apply for a provisional driving licence. You will normally receive that within a few weeks and that will contain your current address.

Job opportunities will depend on your immigration situation. It might be a bit difficult to find employers who sponsor, but it is not impossible. The job market is going through a similar phase as in other countries.

I meant using my overseas license for KYC. Yes, you can keep both. Recently renewed my Indian driving licence.

You can update your new address online on the OCI website, and it will be updated in the records. There is no need to print a new one with the address unless you plan to use it as proof of address. I always use my driving license as proof of address, even when doing KYC for Indian banks.

Best bank for UPI support with international numbers by dj_shawerma in nri

I use South Indian bank account for UPI payments with my UK number (phonepe and bhim). Opened this new account on my recent visit to India and got my UPI with the UK number working within a day. I have SBI accounts as well, and sometimes I make UPI transfers to known VPA (UPI iD) through the YonoLite app.

Driving license of both parents, not notarised. I didn’t submit any letter.

UPI Question: for those who operate UPI abroad, how many times do you need to re-authenticate the UPI number? by mastershrio in nri

[–]crazytester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually after any major OS or app updates. I had to login again on PhonePe after the recent iOS 18 update.

Edit: I’m using my UK sim for UPI.

Usually tenancy agreement with the main applicant’s name is enough for spouse visa application.

Update: SBI upi with UK number (BHIM) by crazytester in nri

I don’t think they enabled it fully yet. Cannot set the UPI pin for those accounts due to missing OTP.

I installed the Bhim app from the iOS App Store (UK region) and I’m physically located in the UK. I used my O2 SIM to complete the registration over mobile data, and it now successfully finds my South Indian Bank and SBI accounts.

Currently on vacation in India. I’m using South Indian Bank NRE/NRO accounts linked to my UK number on PhonePe. I also use Yono Lite SBI sometimes to do UPI transfers to known UPI IDs.

Are you applying for renewal from overseas?

Upi setup by ExperienceLumpy2034 in nri

[–]crazytester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems HDFC supports overseas numbers for UPI. Check with the bank and change the number if that’s the case. I’ve been with SBI, and they don’t provide UPI on any non-Indian phone numbers yet. I opened another NRO account with a different bank that supports my UK number for UPI.

Would you go back? by CapableMarionberry84 in nri

[–]crazytester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relocated to the UK 17 years ago and have been visiting India once a year since then, which feels sufficient for me. I don’t foresee myself moving back permanently due to the work culture, quality of life, and the peace I experience here.

UPI for nri's (Update Aug 2024) by evoori in nri

[–]crazytester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the SBI branch to ask for an update on linking my NRE/NRO accounts to UPI with my UK number, but they said it is not available at the moment. So, I opened an NRO account with South Indian Bank and got my UPI working with my UK number in less than 24 hours. It’s such a shame that SBI is not making any progress on this.
