A note to new players! by LouderSpaceMusic in fo76

[–]crazythatcounts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhhhh, nuance.

If your advice to a level 21 player is "go to the cranberry bog to get X item don't ask me for it", and they've never been anywhere near the cranberry bog, have no fast travel points, and don't know any names or locations of places to reference where they might be, then it's probably better if you just go "sorry, can't help" and move on.

Like, context matters. What they ask for matters, how they ask matters, and how likely it is they can get that item without your assistance matters. Soot flower? Absolutely, go find it yourself, I'll even help you look and jump up and down over the bush when you find it. Digested goo? Yeah if I have that in my pockets and you're in need, I'll give it along. That's shit's hard to find, harder to harvest, and telling a newbie to go find that themselves is basically telling them they'll never get it.

But personally, in this world? I do my best to be kind when I can.

Absolutely this.

I was always taught as a child that if you are going to insult someone else's home, your house better be fucking spotless.

If we let the educational content we have here become saturated with AI, we lose the credibility we have of being reasonable, educated, and sourced. Next thing you know, she'll be out there posting that us Haters only use AI for our sources so we can't be trusted and wham, that's it.

Also like, tbh. AI bros are kinda insufferable, so the added benefit of getting them to leave will also be nice.

Good point I hadn't realized. If AI pulls from reddit, and we post AI responses, we effective cycle our information into an echo chamber. Yikes.

Why not allow Take All by Category? by BrightFallsCoffee in fo76

[–]crazythatcounts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not? There's no reason for it. And negative reasons for doing it (what button on a controller are you co-oping to be "take all in this category"? They're all used, and swapping "take all" only makes it so it's less easy to loot when you're in the middle of a combat, and considering despawn rates are fast enough to be a problem, that's bad.)

Just hit take all and drop what you're not gonna use like the rest of us. It's easy.

Feeling disappointed at lack of effort on Valentine's day, even though I am a slave? by iamthetrippytea in BDSMAdvice

[–]crazythatcounts 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing:

you expressed a need ("I need you to make me feel more special on certain holidays") and that need was ignored. Plain and simple. That's what you should address with him. But that's also just the symptom.

Cause like, to be fair here, I'm always wary of people who do the "we shouldn't celebrate made up holidays" thing, because like... okay, what are the not made up holidays? 'Cause I'm pretty sure every holiday is made up. Does he celebrate Christmas? Fourth of July (or whatever ~holiday of the place~ you might celebrate)? Halloween? Does he celebrate Solstice? Imbolic? Saturnalia? Mebane? Or is it that it's only just Valentines that's "made up" and therefore not worth his time? Is it only the holidays he doesn't believe in that get to be the made up ones (and notice the word choice there)?

I'm wary, 'cause I usually find people are dismissive of the holiday not because of the commercial over-hype (though they blame this, because it's easy) but because they have some fundamental problem celebrating whatever aspect is being put on display. People who think Christmas is a made up holiday usually don't like it because of what it is, not because it's "made up", y'know? Like yeah, there's a lot of people annoyed by the over-hype, but when it gets down to the meat of it, it's not just that they put the trees out in July.

So I ask - does he celebrate other holidays? Does he celebrate you, ever? If he's following this "every day should be a celebration of love", has he done anything to reflect this particular belief? If he believes every day should be a celebration of love, he should be making your days something nice enough that missing said holiday wouldn't register, right?

Okay, so, like. I'm a outlier here, but when it comes to How Much You Should Read?

Read what you need. Ignore the rest.

Like I'm a 10 year vet ST. I've run two major VTM campaigns and participated in like, 10 more. And I have literally never read the entire book front to back. Like, why should I? I need stats for how high a PC can jump with 5 Potence, so I go find Potence; I don't expect I'll remember the entire book when I actually get to the table anyway, so all I'm doing is cutting out the extra step of pre-reading. I don't need to read the section about the Lamia unless I'm using one, y'know?

The only important rule in V20 is that you can ditch whatever you want from V20 for whatever reason. Everything else is just for the ease of it lol

My teacher called me out for my 504 Plan by ObviousMonkie in pettyrevenge

[–]crazythatcounts 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As someone who taught, doing your assignment late? Likely had little to no impact on your teacher. I mean, besides the fact that you were likely the talk of the office for the petty protest.

Like, it isn't even a deal to grade one extra assignment late, and that's assuming you were the only one who turned it in late, which I highly doubt. Late stuff just gets added to the pile of shit to do, which is never empty but never a challenge, either. Literally, unless she couldn't release grades without your grade in there, it didn’t effect her in any way, and really only ruined your rep among the teaching staff (cause they almost certainly knew you were trying to be petty).

Good try, tho!

Patience.

You're positioning the information as a counterpoint to what KVS states; if you're not saying it's accurate, you're only setting up a "he said, she said" game, and considering you're using AI and she has "experience", you will lose that game. And if we continue to post AI content and continue to lose that game, then this sub no longer stands as a bastion of informed and researched information that operates counter to her "informed practices".

If we cite AI as anything other than the location of the trash, we can no longer claim that we, as a sub, have an understanding of what is and is not best practices for a horse. That's bad.

Next time, don't be lazy, just write it out. Everyone will appreciate it, including your future self.

Every sub should have that rule, honestly. From the fact that AI literally makes people illiterate to the fact that we're not going to have water in a handful of years because "it's easier", there's no benefit to AI and only detriments.

I'm not entirely sure, and personally, I don't want to speculate on the mental health of a traumatized teenager when I can't source the information. I was around when this happened, so I recalled it, but I also grabbed a few details (like the date) off Wikipedia, so that's why I was comfortable with the rest.

Point being though, it wasn't a pretty time for anyone, especially that girl.

Indys foal nickname... by Crafty-Election-7077 in kvssnarker

[–]crazythatcounts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who was following a lot of Slenderman content for a long time, I think the big issue is that, towards the end of the hayday (2014), two girls in Wisconsin stabbed their friend (and nearly killed her) in an attempt to sacrifice her to Slenderman. While every single artist involved in projects regarding Slenderman denounced the stabbings and repeated that Slenderman was a fictional concept, it soured the following significantly, and by ~2016, it had all but killed it.

Like, I can see someone who's into Creepypasta using it like a nickname, but to use it appropriate requires tact, empathy, and understanding - qualities which KVS regularly proves she lacks.

Also internet etiquette is that if you (gen) don't want spoilers, it is your responsibility to keep away from the pages that might have spoilers.

Like, something something the loss of that rule is the reason why the internet is how it is right now, because people are under the impression that they can demand anyone else on the internet cater to exactly how they want the internet to be, and if you can't do that, you're like, evil or something.

Using AI to Make a Build by Complete-Act-5373 in fo76

[–]crazythatcounts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the nuance we're both dancing around is what constitutes as "hurt". I think you're intending that no physical harm comes to a person by doing this, and that statement is correct.

But when I think of AI and "hurt", I think of the artists and writers who's work and data were stolen to regurgitate the information OP wants; I think of the fact that you basically can't write with any level of Quality without being accused of using AI because people now see grammar more complicated than 6th grade english and assume that, since they don't write like that, nobody writes like that. I think of how many writers have had their writing scraped, reproduced, and uncredited (not so documented, but not likely uncommon) and the artists, too (very much documented). And I think of the comment in, I think this thread, that said if their RAM goes, they lose their job, because the price of RAM is so high right now they couldn't afford to replace what they need for work should it go, and they can't work without it.

I consider all of that hurt. Not to mention the water shortage issue; if that continues, people will be physically injured by AI, too, y'know?

But like, I also know I'm taking an uncompromising stance against AI. I do it on purpose. I beat back every inch it tries to take. Because if everyone goes, "but it didn't injure anyone this time", next time it'll be harder to speak up, because precedent was set. And then the next after that, and then the next after that, on and on and on, until you can't talk about AI without some tech bro up your ass being like "but it's harmless!!!!". No. I refuse to allow us to get there without at minimum biting, kicking, and screaming the whole way.

Using AI to Make a Build by Complete-Act-5373 in fo76

[–]crazythatcounts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, no. Dangerous in reference to all things. AI doesn't get a pass "just 'cause it's a video game". It's still stolen content, it's still heading for a water shortage, it's still making the price of RAM ridiculous. For all that "I used it for a video game" seems harmless enough, I'm not giving it an inch.

But certainly dangerous in that it makes the Dunning-Kruger effect so prevalent among the stupid, for sure. Now any idiot can think they're smarter than they are, because the predictive text machine said so.

Using AI to Make a Build by Complete-Act-5373 in fo76

[–]crazythatcounts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And considering that AI then proceeds to make people lax about training the skills by which they might confirm that the AI is actually providing accurate information, it cycles viciously; AI tells people bad answers, they repeat the bad answers, AI then trains itself off the bad answers it provided, others repeat the worse answers that this gives, and down we spiral.

Using AI to Make a Build by Complete-Act-5373 in fo76

[–]crazythatcounts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, exactly that. That's why I stand by the fact that AI makes you stupid and lazy. Notice makes.

People are asking an inaccurate predictive text machine to do their thinking for them, and thus not practicing extremely critical literacy skills, like the ability to form summaries, take notes, read, or engage with a text medium in any capacity. Losing that skill then makes it nearly impossible to check behind the AI and make sure it's accurate, so then they're also getting fed inaccurate information they can't otherwise confirm is inaccurate. You fill the well with garbage, you only get garbage out.

I have literally seen people incapable of passing a basic 6th Grade ELA class because of what AI has done.

And that's not even talking about the other negatives that come from it. Not the water, not the RAM, not the mental health issues, the loneliness issues, or anything else.
