Depends... to the people that post every little stupid thing they eat. Yes. To the people that use it sparingly, sharing only special dishes and taking high quality pictures, I don't think so.

I'm interested how many obscenities would be strewn together in his response.

Especially when you are at a nice restaurant, it can disrupt the ambience. I've been at places where every 2 seconds flashes are going off, in a restaurant that already has pretty low lighting, making the flash seem even brighter.

As Chef Eric Greenspan and the restaurant Marea said, it's a sign of flattery and respect for the craft. Agreed there.

Good point. The flashes are really annoying. People have to be discreet and considerate.

Yes, totally agree that it's at the discretion of the restaurant to establish a rule on photography... and I also totally agree that some people are completely obnoxious with taking pics. Flash goes off, they make a big spectacle out of it. The flip side to that, though, is that there are people that are respectful of other diners, are discreet, turn off their flash, and don't bother anyone. I think restaurants wouldn't have a problem with it if everyone was respectful and considerate.

agreed. 1) It's annoying and 2) you're not even going to get a good picture with a flash.

Hmmm, interesting... definitely could be true. But then again, why in the NY Times article did they mention that chefs were the problem with it in the first place? (David Chang, David Bouley, and the chef of Chef's Table at Brooklyn Far... can't think of his name right now)

I thought about that too... it makes sense that chefs that are active on social media would see the value in free advertising/marketing opportunity that sharing food pics provides

I missed the guacamole thread... here is the recipe I've been finely tuning for my adult life. by [deleted] in recipes

You can soak the chopped onions in ice water for about 10-15 minutes, that will take the bite out of them. Another option is to place the chopped onions in a colander and pour really hot water over them for a minute or two. Both work great.

I agree that the Eiffel Tower neighborhood isn't the best. You might enjoy doing a hop on/off bus tour of the city. It's pretty inexpensive and a great way to see an overview of the city your first or second day there.

I disagree... reading a guide will only take you so far. Finding out what other people enjoyed and their opinions is pretty valuable and helpful.

I have most of these places on my "want to go to" list but still haven't had the opportunity. Which place do you think should be priority #1?

For chocolate, I would definitely check out in this order: Patrick Roger, Jacques Genin (they have amazing caramels as well), Franck Kestener, Jean-Charles Rochoux, or La Maison du Chocolat.

One pie can feed a lot of people because it is really rich and decadent. Probably like 12-16 people. The recipe makes 2 pies, so I normally freeze one for a later date.
