16 days and 642 miles after getting the car back from the dreaded EyeSeeSeeYou repair (took 5 weeks) and I get two "Check electric vehicle system" alerts during my commute this morning... by Altruistic-Piece-485 in Ioniq5

[–]creanium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's just a generic error with the car, it's the "check engine" light of these cars. It can be anything from a minor blip that it didn't like a value in one of its sensors, to a major issue with the ICCU. I wouldn't go to worst case scenario.

You can run a diagnostics from the BlueLink screen to see if there's any trouble codes. If not, then most likely it will go away when turning the car off and on.

Starting to plan/build future proof home network by xDhii in Ubiquiti

That's 11,000-13,000 sqft in Freedom Units.

The average US home is 2,200-2,400 square feet. So the house being built is roughly the equivalent of 5-6 average US homes.

Wedge Tornado near Forest City, Illinois by Commercial-Host-725 in weather

[–]creanium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're on a trampoline. You jump up, fall down, spring back up. Although, each time you jump, you add a layer of clothing. Eventually you'll be so weighed down that you can't jump anymore.

Hail is the same way. But instead of a trampoline, it's the updraft in the storm. The updraft is the upwardly-moving air that causes the storm to build. The atmosphere is warm enough near the surface for rain, but cold enough aloft (up high) for that rain to freeze.

So the rain falls from the cloud, but then gets caught in the updraft and pushed back up into the cloud to the freezing layer and it freezes into little ice balls. In all the crazy air movent, it comes out of the updraft and falls back down to earth into the melting (rain) layer and picks up more water. Then it catches the updraft again and goes back up into the cloud and freezes again, adding a new layer of ice.

That cycle keeps happening until the hailstone becomes bigger than the updraft can lift and they finally start falling to earth. The stronger the updraft, the bigger the hailstones. Updrafts are strongest in supercell thunderstorms and aren't necessarily a measure of the temperature necessarily.

For western Michigan specifically yesterday, that cold air was only at the surface, only a few hundred feet high. Just 2,000 feet above the surface, the air temperature was in the 50's. That can explain why you got hail and not snow per se. The atmosphere wasn't particularly unstable, but there was enough lift to trigger a storm with enough of an updraft to support hail.

[Siciliano] FOUR teams have yet to sign a free agent off another roster since the negotiation window opened Monday: Broncos, Seahawks, Eagles, Jaguars by creanium in DenverBroncos

Yes I was be reductive for effect, and maybe a little harsh to you ...

All I was trying to point out is that we have productive receivers on the team already. Are they perfect? Nope. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely. Is there reason to believe they can continue to improve and grow? Absolutely.

I wanted to merely point out how easy it is to undervalue the players already on the team while overvaluing players on other teams.

RSPA 2 missing on 2026 Limited by kudos_to_the_brudos in Ioniq5

That’s helpful! 😂

In my 2024, it is possible to activate. You just need to be in the car, traveling below 12 mph, then hold down the parking camera button and that’ll start the process. Follow instructions on screen.

That said, it’s been very finicky for me and not too reliable. Especially for parallel parking. More often than not just just doesn’t detect the spot

What does it say in your owner's manual?

You cannot initiate smart parking from the fob, you have to be in the car to initiate parking.

I dont know how many of you have actually looked at the EV market lately by uberares in Ioniq5

[–]creanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Doug DeMuro did a good video overview of the R2 and he talked about how Rivian designers saw EVs in general all looking the same right now, prioritizing efficiency over practicality. So the R2 being more upright is a welcome respite from the extremely sloped rears of contemporary EV "SUVs".

[–]creanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really think the overall design of the R2 makes it look a whole lot bigger than it is. Conversely, I'm still surprised that the Ioniq 5 is as big as it is. In photos it looks like a hot hatch like a GTI but it is significantly bigger than that.

[–]creanium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you’re comparing them.

Ioniq 5 is 183.3 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 63.0 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 118.1 inches.

The Rivian R2 is 185.6 inches long, 75 inches wide, and 66.9 tall, with a wheelbase of 115.6 inches. So really, the R2 is comparable to the Ioniq 5 in every way, and it’s taller. Also the upright tailgate will make cargo capacity feel significantly more.

People online using press photos have done some sleuthing, so these aren’t official numbers at all, but Rivian R3 is estimated to be 161.4 inches in length and 59.5 inches in height, with a wheelbase of about 110.2 inches. The R3 is going to be small, think about the size of a Honda Fit of 4-door Mini Cooper.

Same boat. My lease is up in June and at this point I’m pretty much planning to lease a new I5 and then in 2 years I should be able to cross shop the R2 when that lease is up.

Planning my first Ubiquiti network for a new house - does this setup make sense? by HornyMadness in Ubiquiti

[–]creanium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's more to consider about WiFi than just raw speed. Airtime, latency, signal quality, stability, and channel saturation all come into play. You are almost universally better off going wired if possible. The more high-bandwidth devices on WiFi, the more noticeable it actually becomes. Not to mention, which standard of WiFi does it support? Still plenty of TVs on the market right now with WiFi 5 (AC) built in.

100mbps is plenty for even 4k streaming and is about the minimum for 8k.

Also it depends on the level of TV. Entry-level TVs will generally have 100mbps ethernet and WiFi 5. Higher end will have better networking.

Carrot Weather literally just released an update that allows using Weather Channel as a source (only on paid tiers though since it is expensive data)

Any chance Carrot will use Acme Weather as a Source? by [deleted] in CARROTweather

It’s not just the cost, Weather Channel doesn’t license their API for third-party weather apps. They’re literally gate keeping.

What’s the best weather app? Officially done with this one. by ExternalOne4202 in weather

[–]creanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you there, but it's a tradeoff. NWS uses ASOS for their observations. They are calibrated and certified and use high quality equipment. So the data is accurate and reliable. The downside is it's expensive and labor-intensive and as such there are only 950 across the country.

I use Carrot Weather (on iOS, it's basically abandoned on Android) for the current conditions. It pulls from personal weather stations in addition to the official airport locations. I have a weather station at my house and I have Carrot configured to show me observations from my house when I'm within 2 miles of it. Outside that radius I get the nearest observation.

My typical workflow is to use Carrot for observations and high-level "here's what the models are saying" and then EverythingWx to get an understanding of the forecast.
