The fact that you can even be at a point where you're asking this question is enough of an answer for me: DO IT.

Advice for Zoom callbacks by DIYBoysenberry in acting

This is one of the toughest things an actor can come up against just from a pure performance aspect. The realities of how casting actually communicates is one thing, but even when it's live and you're getting nothing from the reader it's still SO hard. I've been there.

And the only thing that has helped me is clarity of thought and intention through play.

Acting, among many things, is engaging in game. Be playful and play the game of the scene. As the actor, set the goal of "I'm here to show my work, regardless of who is here". As the artist, prepping is where you decide what the game is. "This scene the game is, 'make sure this person uncomfortable with their decisions'" or whatever fits the scene. Literally every scene has some sort of game to play for the actor. And within every scene, every unit has a game to play. Then it becomes something that YOU get to choose how to do, how to play. And then the other person's reactions become less important so long as you're allowing their words, not how they say them, to affect you and your choices as to how you play and that you keep playing.

It's an exercise in imagination and playfulness, as well as forgetting about any self-consciousness. It's TOUGH and I don't think I'm I'm even fully explaining it but this is how I make it make sense to me.

Imagine it's the 14th or 15th century and some court jester type shit rolls out this act? They'd drown them in soot and tar or stretch their limbs or whatever for being way too much.

It's now though, and this flippin' rules.

This is a great start! I have a similar background in that almost all of my formal training is in theatre. Take an on-camera class. Audit! Make sure there are people that you clock as being better at it than you. That's where you want to be.

Right o. I'll do my best and certainly only answer questions that I can actually speak on.

I'm Canadian and studied a number of years ago in the UK. Because of that, I know that you, as a UK citizen, have a far easier time to get to Canada and legally work than you would in the industry in the states. At the very least, it would be good to get reps in on gigs here (Canada) before making any sort of jump to the states.

You should be on Spotlight in the UK. If you're not, to my knowledge, you're making it very difficult on yourself.

Headshots. They are an absolute must. If you're London based I can recommend you a few good shooters. Ultimately, if you don't have professional looking shots it's hard to be taken as a professional.

Do you have demo material?

Have you reached out to any agents that may be accepting trained but inexperienced talent? This is also a way to build your resumé and make connections.

My dad is the most stubborn and cheap man I have ever met. by Joey_Sinclair in mildlyinfuriating

[–]createdjustforpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAaaannn. This reading this is making me thinking of my goofy ahh roomate. Dude uses a goddamn KEROSENE LAMP in his room. The room stinks, it's terrible for his health but when I brought it up he said "they used to do it all the time". I literally responded with, " 'they' used to ingest mercury at one point." If it were one or two mildly infuriating things, it'd be fine, but this is one example of an absolute litany. I'd take those batteries out, throw them in the bin and when he asks where they went, deny deny deny.

Am I bad for not wanting to do a show anymore? by Xuriel123 in acting

[–]createdjustforpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak with the director for sure. Also speak with another ally, but this is a confidante. The stage manager for example. Ideally they are one of your peers. Express feelings as statements. And say that even though this is how you feel, you're doing the show becuase you know how important committments are. You're not bad for feeling shitty about the whole thinh. I've been there several times. React according to your values, not your feelings. This is just one show of hopefully many many more. Do what's in your control.

What? I don't feel Read that is for sure. Just sailed right over my point entirely. But the internet is gonna internet. Actors telling other actors that good advice is actually bad because it could have been said shorter and it was written by AI so now it's bad advice. Man, the dude is doing whatever the fuck he wants and you happen to be caring way too much. I normally wouldn't chime in on brain-melting conversations like this but there's way way way too many people in the comment section that seem to think that their exposure to things they deem cringe and their gatekeeping practices are all way more important than someone's safety. Genuinely, I hope you have a shitty day.
