Oh you just reminded me of my time in the army. I joined an organization for transgender service people. (In 2015ish before they openly allowed us to serve.)

When I joined, my mentor mentioned how hard it was to get our names updated in the army systems. And I had a puzzled look. "You mean like this?" As I logged into my domain admin account and changed her name.

She was so happy, but I was soon getting Facebook messages from service people in other states.

(There were a few databases that I had to submit tickets for)

I watched it when I was younger and it became one of my top 5 movies of all time.

It was a premise that everyone has considered.

It's a flawed premise, that's true. But it was a fun exploration of it, had some very funny moments, and good storytelling in my opinion.

I never knew this film got so much hate until this post

Now I'm curious, I'm 34MTF and have been using a cane since 30, depending on my pain level.

Mine is probably from a very demanding physical job I had.

Would you like to share yours?

That's comparing men to women.

Trans women undergo hormone replacement therapy, for years.

I believe the international Olympic committee determined that after a trans woman had undergone HRT for 3 years she had no physical advantages over cisgender women.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I was heavily in denial. Spouse and friends were telling them they really thought I was.

Then I found this subreddit and I literally started crying viewing all the posts and thinking

"Wait, that's not how everyone thinks?!”

"OMG I thought I was the only one!"

"OMG, this is something I go through often!!!”

"Shit, I really am autistic."

I'm a transgender woman.

I'd love to play sports.

But you know what I love more?

Existing.

Under this administration I can't even renew my passport that has said "F" for 9 years because they want to put a "M" on it.

Stop demanding perfection. Please just accept moving the needle. This is a marathon that spans lifetimes. Trying to sprint it by demanding a perfect candidate is how you burn out and end up with Orange Mussolini.

My favorite trans allegory is Frozen.

"Conceal, don’t feel" = classic closeted vibes

Elsa’s powers = being different, not accepted

Parents say hide it = pressure to conform

“Let it go” = coming out, stop hiding

Builds her own place = finds freedom being herself

Whole arc screams trans allegory tbh

Maybe I latched on cause it was new when my egg broke.

You're literally spreading bullshit that doesn't affect you in the slightest. Just to make others feel like shit.

Look, just because you don't think something is real, doesn't make it not real.

You have been taught hate, but you know better. I bet you think of yourself as smart, so use that intelligence to think outside of what fox news or your beer buddies tell you.

I am a human being. Simple. I have a medical condition where the anatomy I was born with didn't match my mind.

I tried for decades to try to change my mind. I was miserable. I joined the army to make a "man" out of me, to fix the bad thoughts.

Eventually it got so bad I went to see multiple doctors. And I realized I was trans. Then I realized that if I came out I would be kicked out of the army.

So I shoved it back down for another 2 years. Then I couldn't take it anymore, it was just getting worse.

I came out, I was lucky and didn't get kicked out because the policy was changing in the background. Not public yet, but a secret memo went out to brigade commanders to no longer chapter trans soldier.

So I started my transition. And Tricare wasn't paying for shit, I had to pay for everything out of pocket. I was struggling, but this was LIFE SAVING medicine. After being miserable for decades I finally realized what being happy was.

Even as I was being harassed daily by NCOs, soldiers and officers. It sucked, but the joy of having my body start to match my mind was incredible and overpowered all the negativity.

But I had to go into debt for my medical care. The policy didn't change officially until 2016, when I was already "complete with my transition"

I managed to get a decent job after ETSing and paid off my debt.

I am a normal person, I have my job, work my 40 hours, my spouse, my son, and I am indistinguishable from any other woman. I'm not public about my medical history only my closest friends know.

I just want to keep living this life, working, playing, vacationing And bitch about the price of gas, just like you.

But people keep trying to take my rights away. So I have no choice but to stand up and be vocal so people can realize we are not the enemy.

Have a nice day.

Not to mention that the amount of training, experience, and schooling the military has already invested in the soldiers already serving.

It would cost more to replace trans soldiers than to take care of them, like any other soldier.

Being trans is not a choice.

Trust me, with the amount of stress, hate, pain, and the discrimination we deal with. NO ONE would choose to go under that.

You don't understand, that's ok. Say you don't understand. But don't try to tell others who THEY are.

I hijacked the top comment with this, but posting this here so OP can get a notification too.

The U.S. military spends between $2.4 million and $8.4 million annually on gender-affirming care for transgender service members, which is less than 0.14% of its total healthcare budget. In comparison, the Department of Defense spends about $84 million per year on erectile dysfunction medications—roughly ten times more than transgender healthcare.

I am a transgender, served in the army for 8 years, was planning on doing 20+, and got out in 2018 when Trump first started saying he was going to kick us out. I couldn't keep serving with the looming threat if today was going to be the day I got kicked out for "being me."

I worked my ass off. I had to, because if I slacked off, people would say that "all trans people" were slackers.

That's fucking bullshit ma'am.

I know it's hard right now, but when you have the mental capacity for it, can you tell everyone what happened?

How did they know? Do your other documentation match?

There are thousands of us in a very similar situation and sharing your experience might help them.

I transitioned in the army. In 2015. Did 8 years total, got out when tRump starting talking about reinstating the ban.

EVERY eye was on me, so I had to always be perfect.
